Hi all, I have been lurking around this forum for a while and so thought it’s probably about time I do an official introduction. My name is Damian, although my user name is Alex (electronic habbit) you can call me Damo. I live in south western Sydney and run a Product Development department for a Pet and Aquarium products manufacturer. I have met a couple of you and dealt with a few more. I met Mick (Sik Astina) by way of an Ebay transaction the other day, I did some track time with a guy from up north, can’t remember his name but has a Sparkle BA Hatch with a Whale Tale, also Anthony (Phattony) who I picked up Mick’s old Veilside front Bar from. I have had dealings with Nathan (Bourbon) and Greg (Astro Boy) for parts, thanks guys.

From my signature you may be able to tell that I have a BA11P1 of which has now become my dedicated track car. I started racing this year in the NSW Supersprint Championship in class 2B (Road Registered Vehicles with Limited Modifications). I have abanded the Championship now after missing a couple of rounds due to a crash in round 3. I have plans to re-join the championship for the 2011 season.

The car build for the track is nothing special as only limited modifications are allowed and must remain road registered. You will find that there are members on this forum that have more modifications in their road going Astina’s than I have. Below is a breakdown of the car. I will post some picks up soon

Engine: BP N/A

Gearbox/Diff: Stock, Exedy HD Clutch

Induction: Stock manifold and AFM with custom CAI

Exhaust: 4-2-1 Extractors, 300cpi metal cat, Pro-ex straight through Muffler, 2 ¼” piping from the extractors.

Suspension: BC VS1 coilovers, front strut brace, rear sway bar.

Brakes: Stock size, RDA rotors, QFM A1RM pads on front, TRW Lucas pads on rear

Tyres/Wheels: Kumho KU36 215/45/16’s, Giovani 16x7.5 rims.

Interior: Stripped from front seats back, tacho and shift light, gps lap timer

Safety: Sparco Sprint V seat on custom rail, Willians 4 point harness, fire extinguisher

Sponsors: 1) Me, 2) Tyrepower.

Here are some vids from a track day at Oran Park back in 2009 before the majority of the work was done. Sorry, they are a bit repetitive and the camera work shoddy.

I also recently picked up and mechanically resurrected (MIZ323)’s BA Hatch. Currently using it as a daily driver. No plans to do anything further with this car.

I also have a 2007 Mazda CX7 which I use to tow the race car around.

That’s pretty much it, I am by no way a performance expert but hope I can contribute here and there.

Welcome. Sounds like you have a lot of fun with your astina. :D

Sure do, had some interesting excursions, best so far was a 540 degree spin on a wet Wakefield track @ 140kph then backwards into the gravel trap. Composed myself and then punched out my fastest lap of the session on my very next lap. I guess, what doesn't kill you makes you go faster??
