View Full Version : AstinaGT the shirt?

So now we have some proper momentum going in this place....despite not nearly enough stickers on cars *cough*.......
I reckon we might look at a club shirt.
IMO the T shirt thing has been done to death and Astinas deserve better than that.
Short sleeved button shirt or a polo?
Whaddya think?

Something with a collar and an embroided logo would be good. Just not purple (sorry you know who  )

sounds like a good idea you realize to have an imbioded pattern done it can cost at least $80 for a small basic design an it goes up from there depending on size and design
once you have the first one done it remains on the computer so you can then print as many as you like at a much reduced price
lets say shirt $20
pattern $100
thats the first one then after that you can probly do them for about $30-$35 each

Heh.. i spoke of this ages and ages ago... Some older topic that i posted in (http://www.astinagt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=120&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start =30)
I will head down to the embroidery shop on the weekend.. I might even get a prototype ready for the Feb 8th meet.

I think Shirts and maybe caps for a start.
Boxer shorts??? ***will drop pants for membership***
It'd be good to see people showing their colours when their are more than one marque at an event

Kitty and myself are in discussion at the moment on what to do
We will get back to you on that soon

Have no fear fella's (and girls)
We will be trying to get something sorted for ya's soon enough......
But by all means keep the ideas coming!!!
AND
if anyone wants to be creative...... I want to do something fresh with the design graphic!
Do we have any budding artists or designers that are willing to throw around some ideas?
I am looking at something a bit classy, and it does cost money for the initial set up of embroidery work.
That said, embroidery on GOOD QUALITY shirts (not $20 shirts) means they last a lot longer, don't stretch or shrink or fade.
The first run will probably have a higher cost due to the set up costs, but any future runs will be cheaper.
I will be trying to get a job lot done with another run of Ausmicro shirts, but the discount will only apply to the shirt buy, and not the setup fee's.
But before any of this other stuff can happen, a new design is needed.
So, a call is going out to find something advertises the club, but makes it more UNIQUE and makes it STAND APART from all the rest!!
The name AstinaGT.com still stands, we want to promote the website and the forum, but we want to change it from looking like a basic Mazda based club, and we want it to look like something individual and something OUT OF THE ORDINARY.... something as beautiful and distinctive as each and every car is that you own....
So.....
Put your thinking caps on, get creative, and see what you can do to the ASTINAGT.COM logo to make it bigger and better than "zoom zoom"
If you need to email me any graphics, send to kks@ausmicro.com
I can host good graphics, and the floor will be thrown open until mid year for any and all comers to come up with ideas.
A poll will decide the top 10, and from that Tony and I will decide the winner, who will get a free shirt!
The judges decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into, LOL.
So c'mon everyone, bring out your best and show us what you've got!!!!
you know what I mean!

I'm guessing the setup cost would increase the more colours are involved, is their a limit. The design would need to be a little timeless as well due to the evolving nature of cars.
mrpayner
24-01-2004, 10:34 AM
It's not so much the colours but more how many stitches are involved.. so obviously the bigger the logo the greater the cost.
Personally I just wanted something that is stylised.. I'd be happy with a 7-9cm logo as a crest on the front of a good quality shirt. I'd be more inclined to get an interlock cotton polo shirt over the"normal" style polo as it looks a bit more professional and classy.
I have an acquantance in the embroidery industry.. I might ask if she can do us a favour..

Hey, this sounds good. Very interested in a shirt and cap.
I have one idea. why not have the astinagt.com logo and then have both model BA astinas either side of it and the sp20 in the middle with the astinagt.com going throught the middle of them. Just an idea and ill try to draw it up for you. But obviously just have an outline of the cars with as little detail as possible.

It's also the colours too.....
find out if you like Adam, but whether she can do us a favour or not, it would mean all the AstinaGT business would have to go through her, and I am keen to do all the business through the people that have looked after http://www.ausmicro.com

Well done to Chris!!!
One thing though, I want to change the font of the word Astina......
is a long winded reason why, but can everyone keep that in mind for future designs?
Avoid using anything that looks like it was on a Mazda!
Cheers and well done again Chris!!!

The reason for changing the font is due to Mazda having a trademark on that exact image and Tony doesnt feel like fighting law suits about it. They also have a trademark on the word "Astina" so ur screwed either way.
Somthing simple like the logo on the left breast and then across the shoulders on the back. White shirt with the std logo. Simple. Easy. Cheap.
Im not down with having pics of other peoples cars all over my ****.
Maybe have your licence plate on the breast instead of the logo.
mrpayner
25-01-2004, 03:42 PM
Mmkay.. I went to the embroidery place here in ballarat.. for a simple logo that's 7½cm wide and about 9-10mm high [like the one at the top of this page] you're looking at a digitaizing fee of roughly $44, then we've got it for life basically.. To get the logo on stuff you're looking at about $10 embroidery costs. I also got a couple of brochures on Shirts and hats. I'll bring these on the next Melb cruise [8th Feb] so the other guys can have a looksie too.
As with my contact she actually lives in my old home town. I can find out what software that she uses on her machines as I found out what program they use here in Ballarat. Going by a design that I saw on the desk when I was at the shop it looks to be the same program as it's apparently one of the best in the industry.
I do like Jim's idea of having the simple AstinaGT.com logo on the left breast then having a number plate on the right breast.. That was along the lines of what I was thinking. For the logo across the shoulder blades on the back of the shirt that would cost a fair bit of money me thinks.. It would certainly push a shirt into the $60-$80 mark.
Oh.. i thought I'd thrown this in here too.. i was mucking around with this ages ago and thought about it again with this whole shirt / cap thing..

Keep some of those ideas flowing, but what we need to do is slightly change that font, and what I am after is maybe join all the letters together or something.....
Unfortunately I can't put the idea into electronic format atm, I don't have access to what I need to do it, but it won't take us long.
There are ways and means peoples.
Firstly though, we do not want to get into trouble with Mazda.
Secondly, we do not want to get Tony into any kind of trouble either.
So we must keep that in mind when thinking of our designs.
And I would prefer our nicks instead of our license plates personally........
Keep those brain cells ticking away, and we are bound to come up with something!
Cheers!

I would prefer online nicks to number plates, makes people recogniseable.
I have trouble understanding how if we can use the logo that is the site I.D. then why can't we just use that on the shirt.
Is there no way of become a mazda Australia authorised club or something.
Another thought might be a Mazda official shirt that has Mazda on one breast, and AstinaGT.com on the other ???

this is my idea for the astinagt logo. (for a black shirt)
this could go on the front right of shirt or the back, centred on the top.
im workin on a picture which might go on the front or back of shirt.

that is almost exactly what I have in mind, except I want to join the letters up in pairs, the bottom of the a with the bottom of the s and the bottom of the t with the bottom of the i and the bottom of the n with the a....
does anyone understand what I mean?
But beautiful work sab's!!!!!!!
So close now..........
:D
Anyone ever thought of just asking Mazda nicely if we could use the font/image Astina thingy:?:
MrShadow
27-01-2004, 10:27 AM
I like, sabrelli, I like. I also like the idea of having our nicks on our shirts, that way people like me aren't embarressed by always having to ask "Who are you (again)?" or just trying to not use names at all!
I also like the idea of something better than your average $20 polo/t-shirt. I wouldn't mind paying up to $80 for a decent shirt (hell, I've got three mambo shirts that cost more than that, and they've lasted me ages. Worth the money in the long run).
KittyKatSmack
27-01-2004, 11:29 AM
Talking to Mazda is an option we want to try without saying to them
"BTW we have been using the name/font for ages already, hope you don't mind"
coz they might get a bit peeved at that!
And better quality is always good. The people that have done the ausmicro shirts have some very nice stuff, and by ordering the ausmicro shirts and the astinagt shirts, we might be able to save by bulk ordering!
Buying 50 or 100 shirts is MUCH cheaper than buying 20!!
It might knock $15-$20 off each shirt MAYBE!
I am trying not to give you guys too much in case it doesn't all come off. I don't want to give with one hand and take with another..... am no indian giver, LOL.
That said, if we can take advantage of bulk ordering in conjunction with ausmicro.com, why not take advantage of it? Everyone will win, not only astinagt.com but also ausmicro.com too! Everyone helping everyone will mean everyone gets a better deal.
As for the design, that is still a sore point.
Another option though, one not yet thrown out there, is to maybe not have astinagt.com as a name on the shirt?
We all use AGT as an abbreviation, well I do....
so why not the silhouettes and AGT and your nick?
if people want to ask what AGT is, you can give them a card and talk to them about the site. Verbal selling is always better, and your own enthusiasm for the site will speak volumes.
I am not saying change the name, I am saying it will get you the shirts quicker while we wait for Mazda maybe?
Just a thought...........

Isn't there a "public" font available that is used in the Astina logo? I know that I've got a font on my computer called "SF Automation" which is used in the word Mazda.. surely there's a font that's similar or identical that we can use for Astina..
I've got something new myself.. i'll post it when i get home from work this arvo..

letters within the letters, or sharing a common bit if u get my drift.
takes a bit of getting usedto, the G looks like a C coz of the T
what do u all think? and it's not actually any font, it's a bit abstract.
Cosmo Dude
27-01-2004, 03:25 PM
Simple and effective (what a logo should be).
I agree with the G looking like a C and it would be interesting to see the T more symetrical (longer on the right). Good work!
Critter
27-01-2004, 03:36 PM
Would prefer Astina myself as the principal word, but that IS a bit 'exclusive' and we have Proteges here etc.....it's a tough call.
For me actually, Mazda makes our cars, so if the Astina logo is a problem, then can we not use Mazda shirts with the AGT "sub-logo" similar to CityEnd's idea on the other side?
That all said, I reckon sabrelli's idea rox.

All I did was "skew" the word Astina in photoshop so it still "looks" like the original font but it appears more in italics.. It still retains the original feel to the logo.
We could even go so far as using the bigger logo on the left breast, and the smaller logo at the base of the sleeves on the outer edge.. It would certainly look the goods..

what about an outline of the current model you own around your nick?
a BA hardtop around Cosmo Dude

an SP20 around Critter
just a basic outline like Adam did?
that way, as more models are added to the range, and members join with those models, they can be added?

sorry i have no camera atm... will try for ya all
shirt body is navy, sleeves (t-shirt) shoulder lappels, top section, and the collar is white... with navy piping on the sleeves
soo using this one.... i say mr payner has some schweeet stuff there -
use the astinaGT.com across the back
then on the left breast pocket use the AGT with astinagt.com underneath
supply shirts like that....
simple lettered embroidery (ie personalisation) can be gotten v. cheaply, like $8-$15, so if you don't want a name, you don't get....
unless names are cheaper when ordered in a batch of course!!!

That's right, I'll chase that up.
In the interum think about it this way.
We are the enthusiasts that buy their cars and parts and maintain them to a high level, we actually promote the product. Mazda would have cause to be concerned if the public had trouble distinguishing our little group from Mazda or if we represented ourselves as Mazda.
I had a search on the word astina and found cars :) washing machines apartment buildings… the list goes on so we would be rather safe using astina as part of the logo.
It would be good to have some ballpark figures on costs, I'd guess that a logo embroidered on one breast, your nic embroidered on the other and a large MEMBER embroidered onto the back of a bowling shirt wouldn't be cheap, but if it were a logo on the front and MEMBER on the back screen printed in only one or two colours onto a T-shirt that would be a lot cheaper. Many other variables so keep the ideas rolling, we can then put it to a poll and we will be styling
