well i figure now is a good time to start my worklog before i do anything major
1996 BA hatch series 2 with a BP engine mated to a manual tranny
it has just over 190000k's on the clock and i paid about 3k for it and has 7 months rego which is good
it has really black tint 15 inch rims and thankfully the AC works great which is good as summer is around the corner. car runs great with no leaks and no noises. drives like a dream and everytrhing works on it. altho rear right passenger window control works in the opposite way for some reason
spoiler also has a crack in it but sik astina says he might have something for me
the previsous owner was a my cousians good mate and it has only really been used to get the kids to school as he got it for his wife
ive only given it a wash, vaccum and topped up the fluids so far

first thing is too do a big old service so i have written up a list of things to do
then audio as i miss being able to use my usb to play music so head deck with speakers to complete the package. then after that maybe look into some handling improvements

so without futher ado her she is

yeah i know the tryes are illegal as im still driving BG around till i sell it (met someone the other day who buys and restores them who is interested) this is sitting in the garage for now. i couldnt find really any BA's at this price in this condition so im real happy with it. so not to worried about tyres right now. the guy i bought it off was going to some cheapos on for another 500 bucks i said no thanks i will sort my own tyres out

theres something i like about this car, oh yes... i own one in the same colour? :)
also, small oil leak on the exhaust manifold cover?
looks baked on so not fresh i assume but its common for the BA's to leak from the rocker cover.

loled at mike
yes oil leaks from the tappet cover gasket is common and im getting a new one
cheers sik i will pm you when im ready to come and get it. is it the same colour tho?
and ive been informed on club323f that the rims are TSW (that is a bit obivious) Hockenheims. and just so everyone knows the big nut holds the cover on the rim which hides the 4 wheel nuts. got my dad to make me up a bit of a spanner to get them off.
pics of the spanner. not the greatest looking but does the job well enough

ok so i have got a story to tell

ive been with my astina for about a week now
this is how it goes
i was topping up the radiator and noticed the coolant had a orange ting to it so i did a full system flush than run some radiator cleaner thru it and brang it for a drive to circlate it thru the system. however when i came back and parked it on my drive way
i soon discovered coolant was pissing out of the water pump and back left of the head
so i figured id hit up my mechanic to get the water pump and gasket done the same time as the timing belt. so i brang it by and he did a pressure test just to see how bad it was. unfortuantly the pressure guage was going up and down with the revs and white smoke started pouring out of the exthuast. head had to come off s!@#. so i left it with him.
i went back the next arvo and he told me that the water pump gasket had blown out a long time ago and someone had put in hole blocker stuff into the system which stopped the gasket leaking but made the radiator start to corrode. the rust built up on the last water jacket at the back left off the head and had started to separet the head and block apart. when me and my dad put the system flush thru it got rid of the hole blocker stuff andb started leaking into the cyclinder and down the side off the block.

i doubt jay (the guy i bought it off) knew about it because my mechanic said it takes a long time for this to happen and i doubt he owned the car when it went in. also the guy is big car entuastist so i doubt he would have cheaped out. my mechanic said he is seeing this kind of problem quite often these days.

anyhow the head had to come off so i got new valves, seats and seals. and the head was shaved. new ARP head bolts. and J. DUROPRO gasket kit all thanks to south coast engine reconditioners. paid around $530 bucks for all that which i was pretty happy with

then i brang the recon head, gaskets, TRU-FLO water pump (TRU-FLO being the name of the brand) and timing belt to my mechanic. KRIS HODGES AUTOMOTIVE AND PERFORMANCE if anyone was wondering. and he put it all back together with a few other bits and bobs for $500 bucks

i got the TRU-FLO water pump, timing belt, COOPER high flow fuel filter, NIPPON MAX SERIES oil filter, 4 x NGK R series spark plugs, TOPGUN Black spec HT leads and a WESFIL air filter. for $161.58 dollars at south coast agentices. SCA is parts wholesaler which sales to public if you have account there. they also have a base 10% off everything they sell and even more for other things such as the rrp of the HT leads is like 180 bucks lol

http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae106/mkid_photo/Rseries.jpg

i also got a spoiler off sik astina (cheers on that one mick). top bloke. for $50. to replace the cracked one that was on the car
http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae106/mkid_photo/DSC00779-1.jpg

i pick the car up this arvo all in all everything besides the spoiler added up to about $1200 which i didnt think was to bad considering its all top quality parts used. also got my mechanic kris to check out the rings which he said were in really good condition and shouldnt give me any problems

cheers kane

front left speak was rattling so i inspected
which turned out to be a lose screw, all tight now and doesent rattle when base hits
also front right speaker is flapping wth base hits so they will be first to get thrown out

when i had a look they were 6" us audio 180 peak wattage (pretty c!@#)
and they are in the fronts and rears (same speakers all around)
no idea why anyone would put smaller speakers than standard but oh well
looks like frankies is gonna get some more of my hard earned $$$$$
