ok so i was driving home and about half way through my trip the charge icon lights up along with the handbrake light. As i pulled up to check it out i closed my windows and noticed that they were up in about 2 seconds, it usually takes a little longer than that. As i slowly wonder what's going to go wrong next i noticed my engine temperature gauge jump up to the top, about 2mm under the max.
which brings me here, has anyone had this problem where it seems like the car is getting too much charge and its making it malfunction?
P.s. my brake pads are really worn but i don't see the connection...

only way it could over charge is if your voltage regulator in the alternator is stuffed. a simple voltage check at the battery while the engine is running will tell you if its overcharging (if the voltage is above 14V and when you rev the engine it jumps up more). Also the brightness level of ur headlights increases when you rev the engine.

id check your eath wires as well
could be grounding thru other means trying to dispose of its charge
