hey guys, just bought a black 01 sp20 and it instantly became my baby, got it fairly cheap off a family friend who looked after it amazingly, its done 135k's. first up on the list is the typical i/h/e mods just wondering if anyone has any other cheapish ideas to boost performance
rims, dropping it and visuals will come later to :)

best thing to do straight up high quality leads, plugs, oil, oil filter, 98 fuel etc
then CAI (cold air intake), headers/extracters and bigger exhuast
that should be a good base to work up from

however i dont own a BJ so i dont know the engines as well as some of the guys on here. most of the above performance parts can be found.
being sold second hand on here and most are located in brisbane

Welcome to AGT and another Queenslander here!(we are slowly taking over here)
I have a 1.8 BJ II-J48 and have done the usual mods:
Custom made stainless cold air intake,
2.25" cat back exhaust
Lowered
Front Autoexe Strut brace and rear to be fitted.
17" rims on 215/40 tyres

These mods have made teh car a lot more fun to drive so far.
There will be more to come.

For an idea of a good cold air intake have a look at MarcSP20, Orion or my cold air intake

cheers guys, im heading down to cleveland to see ............. about a custom cat back in the net couple of days its got a set of 4-1 extractors on it they seem alright i havnt really had a chance to take a close look at them or the secondaries for that matter but hopefully this weekend ill get some time off. and on the point of cai, is there any really well recomended for the sp20 or is it better to build my own?

And pretty sure your extractors are 4-2-1 aren't they?

You can buy premade CAI's but they are normally quite expensive.
Most people here have made their own and I think everyone I know of that has made their own has been rather happy so far.
Bewarned though - a CAI will make a bit of noise.

update, cheked the headers they are indeed 4-2-1, also just put in a k&n panel filter going to mess around with the stock intake over the weekend it seems alright, aiming to just get a bit more flow through it for now :) thinking of maybe fitting another intake down in the grill, any suggestions?

If you're going to stay with the stock intake system, have a read of this Link (http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8188).

Its not too hard to make your own CAI, have a look at Orion & phildoughs intakes for inspiration, otherwise there is quite a selection you can get in America & Japan being K&N, Simota, AutoExe (what I have, although its really a Short Ram Intake), Injen to name a few. Prices range from 2-350, just where cautious of puddles ;) And of course, you'll be welcomed to the hoover club :p

Yeah mate they are definitely 4-2-1. And there doesnt appear to be a visible brand name on them. Don't think callum has found one either have you cal?

And marc, looks like he'll be doing a home jobbie cai as we fitted up a k&n panel filter earlier today
