OK i have decided to do an inexpensive project on the Astina every week.

This weeks project is Artic Blue Headlights. Cost was just under $30 but you may find cheaper elsewhere. Took around 10 mins to fit and increase driving visability greatly. also look rather phat from outside the car

Hey nate....

Are they actually blue? I'd really like some nice blue beams.

I've heard of HID conversion kits, but they are like way expensive i think....

Where'd you get them from?

Cheers,

sorry, that was a but fuzzy...

Does the light output a blue wavelength, or is the globe just painted/coloured blue?

Did you just do the low beam, or the high? anyone done the parkers???

Like to know what brand you are using as I found most of the artic blue
were crap and ended up using the Narva +30's which are bright but not
really blueish.

would highly recommend some 55W/100W globes

who cares about blues and whites, when you can have 100Watt high beams!!!
also available in H4 90/110... apparantly illegal?!!

if you don't want to fit the higher power globes, try out some silvania/osram silverstars available on http://powerbulbs.com

Yeah they are the ones Mal has. Can look blue from the right angle but it is more of a marketing line i think. still not a bad way to see further up the road

which ones??? the silverstars??

the US ones are blue, the european ones are white (and quite bright)

other option would be to get a HID kit.... have a chat to twilightprotege (who is up your way)

anyways whats impotant is that your happy with your purchases

yeah i am not complaining. We tried to do my mates Celica at the same time and it has the globes built in to the headlights!

If your car wasn't fitted with HID from the factory, it is illegal in Aus to fit them. Bummer, cause they'd look awsome on the hardtop.

Just a word of warning:
I have a friend who put higher wattage bulbs in his EF Falcon and ended up melting the inside of the lights because they got too hot! I know its only a dodgy ford but its something to consider anyway.

Nate, your one modification a week idea is to be applauded! I love it! 8)

i agree with ABC - the actual reflectors in the headlights are pretty flimsy, so prolonged driving with 100W will start to melt them! and the headlights are not cheap to replace

i LUUURRRRVVVVVVEEEEE my HID's

yeah i know the price of replacement!!! accidents suck...

andy(HID boy) i knew you would find this thread!!

i am not really worried about the 100w high beams, as they are only operated when the car is moving, i can not recall using them while stationary......55w is the standard low beam wattage.... ièm more worried about blowing the associated fuse

btw thats why i made those other suggestions such as the silverstars (from UK) they are v. white, no bule tinges at all.... and standard wattage therefore no extra draw

Yeah, think my mate went to a higher wattage for the standard headlights which is what caused the extra heat. Still, its something to watch out for :)

HMMM - melting headlights not good. We used to have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that we put driving lights on. if you left the covers on the lights and turned them on they made this full cool glow effect, but once mum accidently knocked the switch with the covers on and melted the covers clean off in 5 minutes. Most Humorous

just a suggestion -

put a protective coating over the paint, if ur going to paint the handles/vents. Just to make sure the paint doesnt slowly rub off/deteriorate.

I nice gloss laquer over silver paint should look schmick if u want it nice and shiny

Now seriously, what would you guys suggest as the highest recommended wattage?

twilightprotege
07-02-2004, 07:09 PM
personally i'd stay with the stock wattage - or HID's - or really good driving lights
