My aerial on my ba has packed it in ! :(

Goes up about 1/3 of the way and stops, can hear gears missing teeth.

Can make it retact properly so it's not urget, but how the frigg do you get in that rear driverside panel in the boot? tried to take it off when i was installing my sub but gave up soon after.

Where can I get a replacement? new or used?

Thanks,

Tai

to get the panel off :

remove trim at rear of boot ( goes around boot catch and down wall ) - i think u take off the cover arnd boot catch and pull upwards from memory.

take out bottom of rear seats and fold down backs of rear seats

unbolt side cushion from sidewall - bolt at the bottom, then a catch up higher - pull up and out.

remove plastic screws from the side panel in boot.

remove light fitting ( lever up ) and unclip wires

pull outwards on side panel to unclip ( theres a clip somewhere arnt the vents from memory

push forward to slide panel over clip for rear seats.

installation is reverse

this is from memory, so be careful and dont force anything if it looks like it doesnt want to go

btw i have a vague idea that to remove the aerial pole u have to remove it from the top ( eg outside the car )

ill have to look that up to see how tho, but i think it slides out from the shaft

STOP
Don't go pulling your boot apart!!!

You can get replacement poles from places like Strathfield for about $20 (from memory) and are easy to replace.
1. With the radio off unscrew the bezel (nut atop the arial assembly) from the outside of your car, a pair of circlip pliers would be handy or insert an allen keys into each hole and use a screwdriver to twist gently (as low as you can get it) while bracing the allen keys with your other hand.
2. Have an assistant turn on the Radio, guide the arial up and it should pop out all by its self (remember which way the teath go).
3. Their is a sleave on the post with a rubber end that will need to be fitted to the new aerial, remove it and keep it safe.
4. Extend the new pole half way and insert the plastic center with the teath the right way around.
5. Have your assistant turn off the radio while you guide the new pole into place (if the pole doesn't line up turn the radio back on and try again).
6. With the new post down re-fit the sleave from step 3 then replace the bezel and test.

I've just swapped posts on my aerial and was almost as above, so I'll edit in the corrections.
Just wanted to back my words with actions

*sob* what abt me ? :(
lol maybe I should keep the manuals handy for reference :D

however, the problem he described is that the aerial wont go up, so it may not go up far enough for it to be removed.

anywayz, heres page T3-80 and the relevant section of T3-81. ( the rest of 81 is the route for the antenna wire from stereo to antenna. Thats what "Antenna Feeder" is refering to on p81 )

Thanks for the pics.

While the aerial is going up can you gently pull it past what you've described as missing teeth to a new section whith teeth? This may be required to remove the old post.

Hi all. First post for me.

Dredged up this 4 year old thread to say thank-you to Dogo. Your instructions proved invaluable today.

We've just started preparing my Astina for sale (sob) - service, safety certificate and RACQ check - and the dang antenna motor has chosen this week to bust a part inside it. We definately saved some time today following your instructions pulling the car apart.

Alas, now we need a new motor and mast. Why couldn't it have broken after I sell it? I wonder if the old girl is protesting?

Hi
The third replacement aerial has just come out of my Astina - driving along, look in mirror and it's hanging over the side.

Hubby has replaced the last 2 with genuine (I think) and now it's bu....ed again!

What do you recommend for replacement that will stay for at least 50,000 km?

The Aeropro mast replacements for 323 (AP254) is wrong for the BA, they are too long and too skinny and fall out. I plan hopfully on the weekend to compare the my old broken one to the 626 version (ARM052A), I know they are the correct diamater I need to check length retracted.

when i bought my car and was driving it home from sydney, i popped the radio on. in the side mirror there it was flopping out the side attached by the cord :P

The length is about 65mm too short. I'm thinking about the AP253 it has the correct diameter and almost right length. Top looks different though.

mmm ... he is a qualified auto electrician/mechanic but not working in the trade for many years - doesn't really like the black s... Has worked in something completely for the last 20 years and avoids mechanical work whenever he can.... doesn't even do his own car - reason "haven't got a hoist". So not to criticise he knows how it works and how to fit it. So my question is as others have alluded to is there a better product that can be fitted.

Would love to know what will work. Maybe the 626 option would work?
