Hey all

A bit about myself - name is Morgan. I'm a Subaru enthusiast but earlier this year bought my wife a 2003 SP20; replacing the 95 Excel she'd had for 3 years. Needless to say, she loved it!

Unfortunately, one morning on her way to the station, she lost control 600m from home and flipped it. She amazingly walked away unscratched!

We looked around for another SP20 but there wasn't anything around that took our fancy (for the money!) so we bought a SSS for the meantime.

SSS has been good. SR20 is suprisingly zippy but after owning the Mazda, it didn't quite get the same affection from the Mrs! Have been keeping our eyes open for the past few months and found this little silver gem. 2002 model, 160k odd kms, previous owner had it for the past 7 years and looked after it well. There are a few little marks around the car (main one being a strip of corroded paint on the tail gate from bat poop) but she was cheap and drives like a dream!

Picked her up this afternoon :)

Already have some clear side indicators on the way. Can't stand the orange ones!
Apart from regular maintenance, she won't get much more done to her. Maybe black or silver calipers and definitely some 20% tints alll around - already go that lined up :)
My car is there for teh modding :p

Cheers,
Morgan

Haha cheers guys!

Yea I'm ever so grateful to Mazda for protecting the Mrs! Only been married 5 months at the time!

After driving the SSS around for the last couple of months, I must say the SP20 is leagues ahead! The SSS isn't a bad little car and the SR20 friggen hauls for a teeny tiny N/A hatch but the Mazda has that edge on comfort and luxury.

In saying that, anyone want a well looked after '00 SSS!? Haha!

For those who haven't seen already, here's the towies putting the car back rubber side down

And off it goes... Never to be seen again! Actually I did spot it on pickels a month afterwards... Very sad sight!

Nice find - I must say but your findings are what I found - between a N15 and BJ- the main difference is comfort and it all comes from one being COST CUTTED. the N14 was and IMO still in TI or SSS form the best 2.0L hatch sold in Aus Bar none. the local TI handled comfy power all and the sR20 - well it's NO FJ or 2J but it craps all over anything that has come around it.

But in N15 dam it's like a $19990 car (but you paid more) Versus even in top spec BJ 1 or 2 with a 1.8L a $25K car.

those N15's don't handle they only have go. I don't know how owners ride in them on lowered springs every single one on lowered springs is like well - think of going to Jail.

But yes keep the mods for the Rex. Wifes don't need modded cars just need a boot big enough to do the shopping.

Must say Love the Silver over the Black. Good stuff

It is late so maybe it's just me but I struggled to understand that!!

I think what you were saying is that the N14 Pulsar SSS was, in it's day, the best 2L NA hatch you could buy. However they dropped their game with the N15s? May as well spend an extra $5k on your brand new car and get the Mazda SP20 for comfort...

If that's right, I totally agree! Although I've never been a huge fan of the N14 styling, they were a pretty hot little car. I don't mind the appearance if the N15 but would only buy one again if I worked 5 mkns from home and never went anywhere on the weekends :p

My current Subaru is an 02 Outback which is for sale. Going to get an XT Forester when it sells and then sell the Pulsar.

You got Rods post in one - you'll get use to it :p

Mate of mine use to have N15 SSS, was funny as he would prefer to drive mine as it was a little less harsh on the bumps, even though mine was lowered & his was bog stock!

The n15 was junk compared to the n14. Seriously rear beam axle suspension, word?
And on stock rims there hidious the rims sit so far in the wheel arches it's like the got the offset all wrong lol.

But all round I was never a SSS fan, just for the pure fact every single one of my country man had one (I'm talking lebos :P) lol
