I'm trying to install a new head unit in a 1990 SP. I've got the power connected up OK, but I can't figure out which wires are for the speakers.
Does anyone know which wires are from the head unit to the soeakers?

If your car is like mine, the colors of the wires are different in the doors, compared to the other end near the head unit. And all the wiring is wrapped in electrical tape/foam **** so you can't even trace the wires. :x
Also doesn't match the Mazda/Ford Laser manual wiring diagrams.
Best bet, use multi-meter.
If you're really bored you can run your own cable through. lol

Thanx. That does sound like my car. :?
In the original standard head unit there were two plugs that went in to it. One had four wires connected, and the other six? i think. Of the one with six, two were battery/accessories, i think one has something to do with the lights (dim head unit when lights on?), and i'm not sure about the other three.
Have to just keep trying all the combos with that multimeter i guess. :(

I'm about to install an amp on my BG SP so that I can hook up my portable MP3 player.
The color of the wires and those given in Gregory's manual don't match up. How do you go about testing with a multimeter?
How do you determine say which wire is for which speaker etc?
thanks

The plugs to the stockie radio are the same on the BG and BA.
The colours change when different sub contractors make different sections of the wiring looms over the years.
Here goes...
2A +12V from ignition
2B No connection
2C +12V from battery
2D To antenna
2E Dash illumination
2F
2H No connection
2J To center speaker amplifier
2K Left frount speaker +
2L Left frount speaker -
2M Right frount speaker +
2N Right frount speaker -
3A Left rear speaker +
3B Left rear speaker -
3C No connection
3D No connection
3F Right rear speaker +
3H Right rear speaker -
3I No connection
3J No connection
4A Earth
[2A][2C][2E] | [XX][XX] | [2K][2M] [3A][3C] | [**][**] | [3I]
[2B][2D][2F] | [2H][2J] | [2L][2N] [3B][3D] | [3F][3H] | [3J] [4A]

If you understand the diagram then you can write down the colours before cutting them from the plug.

Cosmo Dude,
That's exactly what I need! Thanks for that.
I don't have 2D (Antenna) and 2J (centre speaker amp) on my wiring harness, but that should be fine. I shouldn't need them anyway.
cheers!

or you could buy a mazda to ISO connector lead... works quite well at seperating all the wires!!! and gives you ISO colours, so the colours are all correct!

That's why I included the ISO link on the post.
I may have to find more info and put it together as a sticky, better yet practice my HTML and put together a how to.....
Why do I say these things?
