Well its time to say goodbye to this fantastic forum, just today I traded in my beloved 91 BG that has been with the family since new on my dream car. Whilst I will be sorry to see it go, it certainly has caused me its share of grief, and its also time for an upgrade to car thats got a few more features and a little safer. But the reason Im posting (not that Iv been a major contributor in the past) is to congratulate you all on they way you all respect one another and the courtesy you show. There has never been a time I have felt intimidated posting dumb questions, and I have always recieved a educated and kind response (which im sure many can attest to). I have found that discussion on this forum always informative and friendly and hope that it continues. I also wish you guys and girls every success with the club and many happy and safe cruises in the future :D
thanks
Jared
NOOOOOOO dont go (we need all the friends we can get!!!)
Well good luck and stay out of trouble.

Agreed - you're welcome any time. :D
I'm sure there's dumb questions you can ask and odd comparisons you can make between Astinas and the new one
Tell us what it is!!! Unless its a Dihatsu or something like that in which case I can understand

Well after that overwhelming response how could I ever leave, the new ride is a 93 Peugeot 405 Mi16 (in almost the same dark green as the old BG). Its only got 66,000kms on the clock and is in a brand new cond. Being a fairly highly tuned front wheel drive im sure that ill still have a heap of questions for you all. As a matter of fact iv checked out the Aussiefrogs forum, and was quite dissapointed that although there are some really smart people there when it comes to engines and performance, they seem to get a bit secretive and quite rude to people they dont know... in short im certain that ill keep coming back to the warmth of the AGT forum.
PS: kitty, glad to see there is another Homestarunner fan! 8)

Shows how much u kids actually know about cars... Daihatsu has still won more manufacturers' championships in the ARC than anybody else... and the DT Charade ****s over any astina going around... and Australia's most respected tuning shop, MRT, has these quotes about even a standard G200 Daihatsu Charade:
"The Charade engine is very reliable and will rev hard. It is in the high RPM range that maximum hp is developed."
"The Charade will out handle any other car of similar size, and more!"
And obviously u baffoons don't know that Daihatsu invented the diesel engine... but hey that's got us no where... only like every single truck on the planet and over 50% of passenger cars now sold in Europe! Geez the new charade's **** though hey?

17-02-2004, 03:38 PM
But yeah... who likes hyundai? :?
Cosmo Dude
17-02-2004, 03:51 PM
And obviously u baffoons don't know that Daihatsu invented the diesel engine...
The Diesel Cycle
Rudolf Diesel developed the idea for the diesel engine and obtained the German patent for it in 1892. His goal was to create an engine with high efficiency.
When did Daihatsu invent the diesel engine???
driver101
17-02-2004, 04:28 PM
Yeah i stuffed up Daihatsu didn't invent the diesel... though they where the first car company to have a working self combustible working engine... and were by far the earliest car company to endorse such technology in their production cars... Orignally Daihatsu only designed and manufactured engines... and no cars... this was back in 1907 and at the time were called Hatsudoki Seizo Co... it wasn't untill 1930 that they started making cars... or at least 3 wheeler things... pretty poor really... and it wasn't until 1951 that the name changed to Daihatsu Motor Co. Ltd.
I know you guys aren't a fan of Daihatsu... and honestly... if i didn't know wot i knew about them... and never have had flogged a standard G200 Charade... i'd never be trying to defend a company that markets such **** at the coure and copen... but i'll sum it up by saying this... we all know who DeTomaso are... we know wot they do.. (If ya don't... don't ever claim to be a car fanatic) if daihatsu are so ****... then y did a company used to manufacuturing exotic cars worth hundreds of thousand of dollars suddenly start selling a rebadged Charade? Cause they have by far the best chassis under 50 grand.... Impreza included... all they lack is the hp and proper rolling stock... No other car costing even twice or more as much came with font and rear swaybars.. with passive rear steering... a gearbox that splits tourqe receptively so that it cannot tourque steer despite using unequal drive shafts... and variable castor geometry in the front... Not to mention dominating rally between 1990 and 1995... anyways that's all i've gotta say...
Cheers guys.. stay safe...
Greggles
Cosmo Dude
17-02-2004, 04:57 PM
You wouln't be defending them if some baffoon didn't keep ramming them down our throat...
I believe you are aware of the name Porsche??? BA Astina has Porsche tuned chassis and Porsche tunned engines on some models.
Not to mention dominating rally between 1990 and 1995 which class??? Check the outright results for Mazda 323
Greg just got told

17-02-2004, 06:44 PM
Cya guys later... i give up... the only reason i joined this forum was to defend wot little pride toyota had... stupid considering i hate the company (even though they now own daihatsu... explains y they're both now ****) ... i was just really pissed off that nate thought his astina was the wet dream of our group's performance... which it isn't... ronin's gemini gives it a run for its money... and has class... i've never said anything against the astina... its a brilliant car... and i've got no doubts wotsoever that porsche tunned it... and y wouldn't ya... as all u guys prove with a little money and effort they can be brilliant cars.. let alone wot porsche could do to it! Daihatsu won 6 straight manufactuer championships... mainly from consistent class wins in F2... now called F16... front wheel drive NA between 1600 and 2000cc... yep... the same class the 323's dominated in the mid to late 80's... i know... they're both brilliant cars... I'm gonna go now... you guys take care...
came in controversially.... left controversially...
You won't see me again.... celebrate!

KittyKatSmack
17-02-2004, 07:15 PM
driver101 you are also still welcome, and we will listen to your opinions about your car, but please understand that underneath it all, this is an astina forum.
we appreciate all efforts here, and if you can get past this need to defend a vehicle you already love so dearly, then you also, will be welcome here.
there is no need to try and prove which car is better, because different cars mean different things to different people.
why not accept that motor enthusiasts of different vehicle types will always bring with it a sense of healthy competition, and rivalry....
there will always be ribbing and a bit of humour, but you will find that people with knowledge will be welcomed here.
we love our cosmic rod, he is a wealth of the unusual piece of information!
don't give up so easily from friendly banter, and certainly don't leave!
I was just enjoying it too

Yeah i stuffed up Daihatsu didn't invent the diesel... though they where the first car company to have a working self combustible working engine...
i personally admire the fact that most mazdas use a self combustion engine.... i think the others were the mazda horse and cart...
Daihatsu had the first TNT powered car!!!
ok enough of me...
oh yeah welcome back Mr Jear
Long story
basically driver 101 is one of my mates ( I think he sitll is :P ) (as is dunkymonkey)
I am the only person i my group of friends that doesnt own an toyota and i made a comment that the astina was better than all of the toyotas. driver 101 took ofence to that and came out saying diahatsu is the best car maker for which he has been getting paid out ever since
but he ran away and isnt coming back so i wouldnt be worried

I'm only back to clear up wot 'self combustible' means for the smart ass who does know ie. 'ahb11m'... Self combustible means reacts under its only conditions... in the case of engines... self combustible means requires no external energy source for a reaction to occur... ie.... no spark... ie... a diesel... not a petrol engine!!! A petrol engine ISN'T self combustible! So last time i checked... most mazda's aren't self combustible captain obvious! A diesel engine reacts under compression... not ignition...
So where's ya horse and cart now buddy?

It's ok SehnKhan,
he is just having a wind up.....
and he is allowed to do that.....
He will see we are good people here, and see that there is no need to push the fur in the wrong direction.
However, driver101 how about a class in subtle101?
By all means, we welcome you back, but how about instead of turning our friendly little community/forum into a podium for the self rightous, try just relaxing and joining in dude......
We are all here because we like cars, and we have a LOT of members that don't have Astina's that can participate happily.
It is in the spirit of enjoying a vehicle, changes we can do to our own vehicles, and learning from each other that we are here, and of course lots of fun too.
So, join in on the fun, and by all means, have a good strong discussion and debate, it gets everyones heart rate up....
but lets not get nasty huh?
Please don't prod my boys ok? Or into the litter with you.........
Peace!

sorry, but doesn't that mean that diesel isn't self combustible??
it requires the out side force of compression (ie heat) to make it push pistons... whereas petrol requires sparks (ie ignition) to push
these are in fact perpetual engines when you look at it like that...
btw diesels were first used commercially in trains....
anyway, couldn't help myself

diesel is self combustible.
As air is compressed it becomes hot. Fuel is the injected into the hot compressed air and self ignites.
