Hey,

I find it ironic 3 days after we have police come to our school and talk to us about safety on the road, and one of my classmates asked if they target p-platers and younger drivers? They said no, they treat all drivers the same.

Driving home from the gym today I got a $265 fine and lost 3 points, my mate infront of me lost 3 points and got a $353 fine. Both of us are red p-platers, what did we do? I crossed a double lane for about 2 seconds because i thought someone on the side of the road was going to open their door, the police officer asked why i thought that, I said they had their light on the inside on and they looked over their shoulder. My mate got done for Negligent driving because he didn't indicate for long enough before changing lanes. We were not speeding, didn't race, didn't do anything stupid. We were followed for about 8 k's. Not targeted my ****ing ass.

you crossed double lines - and you are complaining? unfortunately someone else doing something is not an excuse for you to break the road rules. if they had actually did open it door, then you might have been able to agrue the point.

personally though, i did think the penilties are a bit extreme. alot of points and cash for such little offences.

To be honest P Platers are targeted no matter what the police say. Red P Platers in particular. When I was a red P Plater, cops hassled me so much, now I'm green, they are pretty easy going.

Green is 1000000x better. Just stick out this year. You and your mate have 1 point left. That's harsh. Use it wisely.
And yes. Targeted.

I was going past an RBT pulling 5 cars over at a time. They pulled the five over and the guy started to walk away then he spotted me and ran back out to grab me. I was half in an intersection to line up behind the other cars but they wanted that p plater lol

P plates are there to identify you as a novice... If you think that some police are not going to target you then you're fooling yourself.
On the other hand if there are no double lines on Old Kurrajong Road then you may have a loop hole.

never really been selected out of the crowd. my car aint stupid low but it is rather loud and i drive rather hard until the speed limit, and never lost a point or paid a fine... maybe NSW/VIC are alot harder?

me too. im still on my greens, yeah ive been followed a few times but never even been pulled over.

i reckon P platers are targeted, but i think its actually for the better, showing us that you cant muck around on the roads and think you can get away with it. the longer you get away with something wrong the more times you are gonna do it.. targeting P platers stops us getting in bad habbits, which reduces car crashes and saves lives.

well

lets look at it from another point of view. the rest of the public - P-platers are considered Novice and pain in the bum drivers always breaking the law. Young people with P-plates Fancy cars etc it's like feed a fire petrol.

Now in your case - YOU MADE THE MISTAKEs - small but you broke the law. From a police and public law enforcement point of view - we inforce it because we figure you might laern a lesson.

Now if they did the same ot a older driver they might not book that person yes they should know better but it comes under the thought of can't teach and old dog new tricks. They also take into account maybe they pull a MUM or DAD over. struggling to take care of said kids because said kid wants a brand new car for xmas - (in theory) The same occurs when they pull over a expensive car - well mannered dressed person - higher class - they ain't going to give them selves a headache of going to court because said individual will not care for loss of MONEY even if they loose overall. Many a More well off person has gone ot court and been given lesser sentence due to the price of the Solicitor or even QC etc.

Back to your case you need to think was it Highway patrol - if so then Regardless of what road if you did it they have it on video. Gives you being a P-plater a NO win situation. So be very good.
If on the other hand it was local police officers and it's an area you frequent it's two sided edge. On one hand you could fight it and win cost you cost police time etc. Problem if you thought you were watched now your car with P-plate target is now 1000% larger.

We use to remove -plates all the time, in my day but we had general rule only for highway driving so you could do 110km/h and you made sure you never brought attention to yourself. Changing lanes with out indicating well in advance is not just pain if you get caught it's pain to other road usesrs. So you have to think if you don't do it what would happen if someone did it too you.

I can tell you now Speed - drive drunk - drive sideways but break the little laws and it's what will always get you unstuck. It's how they busted a guy in my area for being a drug dealer. Sure he was off his head but if only he waited for the green light instead of driving right through it. he would not have tried to out run them or smash into a house and get busted with all them pills.

With a P-plate on your car you need to MIX and hide in traffic you can speed with traffic you just have to hide follow all the rules and you won't end up in front of a magistrate or without a licence.

I went for a drive along the same road today, it is double lines on both corners at the end of the road, One corner i would of literally had to be driving on the wrong side of the road the other is weird because the road curves down to the left before you turn right where i did, and if you do follow the solid line to end end before turned its got you almost pointed like you were going to go left. Im just going to be the best behaved p plater on the earth untill im off them. thanks for the feedback guys.

majority of P platers do the right thing. there are the handful of testosterone pumped guys and girls who do the wrong thing. every day i see these morons do what they do really annoys me. generally all this weaving side to side and racing off the lights do nothing as the next set of lights stops them. the roads in Sydney are crappy enough and most of your cars are not formula one build quality but pretty much a glorified shopping trolley. and no I dont think P platers are targetted. Do the right thing and you wont be donating your money to the po po.

I've only been involved with police twice so far with Ps, I'm on greens.

First time was highway patrol closed off the entire main road and breath tested everyone.

Second time was when I totalled my car in a pretty serious not at fault accident and the cop who had someone pulled over saw it. I t-boned another car at close to 90km/h when he (another P plater) accidentally reversed across the freeway when I was coming home. He had pulled over in the emergency lane to help a friend, he meant to reverse back into the grass off the emergency lane to turn around and tried to spin the wheels to show off, but he had the steering wheel turned the wrong way and come out across the freeway in front of me.

Sucks that the penalties are so big for those things, some speeding fines aren't even that big.

I never had a problem when I had to show P plates. Here in SA it seems more a case of the car you drive opposed to P plates. Drive a commodore that isn't the current model and you'll have nothing but trouble, add P plates to that and you're asking for it :p

After a year on your P1s you go to P2s where you don't need any P plates :) Get my full license in a few weeks when I turn 19 too :D

Yeah the SA age is way too low, when I was 17.5 I no longer had to show any P plates on my car :p

had a guy from sa come cruising with us in the hills of the national park
was a red p-plater with 180+kw starlet gt couldnt believe it when he told me the rules for p platers in sa
although im lead to believe that they will be changing soon to more vic/nsw laws

p-platers have always been targeted and in some cases for the better
i have never personaly been pulled over by the cops, and ive only ever been in 1 rbt on p's despite my car having extremely dark tint, exhuast etc they generally leave me alone (knock on wood). i dont really speed just keep up with traffic and never hoon around on public roads.

i do see alot of p-platers in sydney and down here on the south coast with vr/vp commodores that have rusted out, dont have a straight panel on them, with bald tyres, there techno music turned all the way up and the only new thing on the entire car is the chrome tail lights that they got down at super cheap which they believe turns there car into a ve hsv and the envy of all other road users, getting pulled over all the time for speeding, talking on the mobile phone, hooning about etc. to which they have the mentality of "why are they bothering me?"

but not all p-platers are like this

there are always stories in papers of older people driving into buildings, excessive drink driving sometimes with children in the car etc. and they do things all the time to piss me and other roads users off like, pulling out in front me in utes and suvs, driving 10-15 k's under the limit or over for that matter, over taking and slowing down straight away, driving on my bummer, staying at the liggts when they turn green because they have to answer a call or need a tic-tac right at that moment, but because they have a full licence this somehow ok and generally accepted by the public at large. but if a p-plater were to do any of this they must lose there license and be automatically called a hoon and a danger to everyone else on the road, sidewalk and anyone who watches the news that night

but still if you broke the rules and there is evidence of it. then i dont see the point in arguing the fine

They must be tough then in NSW... Here in QLD i was driving home at 2 in the morning in my loud ass, lowered, body kit lancer (first car) with literally no one else in sight and the police pulled out from a side street, they didn't pull me over or nothing. Continued driving a long and then they pulled into the police station about 10kms down the road... I've never had a single problem with the police and i'm now nearly on my opens in a few months. You were just unlucky!

yeah, I got my licence in February, and I haven't been pulled over once, last week, there were two RBT's set up (different days) on the road I take to get home, both times they waved me through (4 cars in front of me were waved over). I've never had a single problem.

However, I do have a fine coming at me in the mail... was on Strathpine Road, thinking about work and other personal ****, not taking notice of my speed, flash of light, looked at my speedo and yelled out F#@K! was going a little over 70 or on 70.... *sigh*

I hate mobile speed cameras.

I didnt even get pulled over, cops followed me to my destination (Casula mall) and walked over to me. Apart from that first time i've been spoken to by a cop on my P's. Got breath tested twice on L's.

he followed up mt glorious rd and i happened to be last in the pack so he sat on my ass for ages, until we went to nebo and he went to glorius. anyway we are heading home and we arent speeding and im last again, lets everyone through except me, pulls me over, and tells me that i hadnt fixed my p plate. since id stopped at the lookout i had a reasonable chance to fix it and handed me a fine ($160, 2 points.) no ifs, no buts. was a total smart ass about the whole thing, I was scared he'd look further (and find something stupid again) so didnt argue or whatnot... perfect driving record to date and no warning. just out IMHO to sledge anyone he can for wahtever he can. i will be calling tomorrow to find out about the points and whatnot. i will pay the fine etc, that is, if i can even read the bloody thing- youd think youd spend a little time on the fine - just goes to show how many hed already written up...

Yeah ive never gotten a warning either. My first offense going down a hill in an automatic (first time driving one ever) and got booked for doing 11kms over the speed limit.

Alot of police can be absolute assholes but everynow and then you get a really nice one which is nice :)

31-07-2011, 09:35 PM
well I have to say this if he saw you beofre and then saw you again and you Had not fixed what ever then he has every right. It's not targetting it's the fact your given a target a Big P-plate sign.

Put it this way I could - not that I have - driven a cut and shut car with a stolen engine for 2 whole years on the roads and never get picked up. All because I kept it clean. no defeacts no bad driving - I could of been driving with 100Kg of illigal substance inside it. Again who is going to know. If you keep it clean remove all targets. No one will see you.

See their a bunch of idiots, thing me and my mate found on our tickets that the offence is written in some blunt ass pencil so you cant read it but the amount you've been fined is clear as day down the bottom in pen.

i just gotta say, they all arent bad. i had a run in with one on my bike through the royal national park. i was doing 120kph around a corner in a 60 zone with no L plate on and the cop only gave me a warning!! i was stoked!

spent the arvo looking and waiting on the phone to speak to his supervisor. proabably wont make a difference to his bonus but its better than doing nothing...
