Well I put August as I should have the boost going on by then :)
I'd suggest Rick Shaw's dyno in the city.

Cosmo Dude
17-02-2004, 01:22 PM
turbo is unfair advantage ;) LOL
I wasn't going to bring the Astina
I'd suggest Rick Shaw's dyno in the city
Rick Shaws would be an interesting with my vehicle of choice 8)
Anyway the idea is to do an apples with apples test, not nessesarily find out who's got the most power
twilightprotege
17-02-2004, 01:34 PM
exactly. apples with apples.
and who ever doesnt show can shut the #### up
Queens birthday weekend sounds cool! I will take the week of and luv it!
I am just going to leave my car standard!
I wasn't going to bring the Astina
well then i guess i had better get a rotor in my BG quick smart :D
Critter
17-02-2004, 08:24 PM
Well as I am going to boost the engine, I don't care much what it does now.
For that matter don't care much what it does on the dyno then either so long as it goes how I want......

twilightprotege
18-02-2004, 11:25 PM
by all means! just makes the dyno runs cheaper for us all (well i guess)
just keep in mind that you can only put so many cars on the dyno in one sitting.
Probably best to find out how many AGT guys want a run before inviting other parties.
twilightprotege
19-02-2004, 08:53 AM
well i was guessing on 30 agt cars running...that's a half day.
Cosmo Dude
19-02-2004, 10:29 AM
We will need to verify how many cars we can run in a day and cost per car with the workshop (when we find one). If Twighlight can keep a running tab of those interested on post 1 that would be OK for now but as it gets closer to the day ('bout 4 weeks prior) or the positions fill up too quickly we will need to collect deposits to confirm places.
We will also need a local to organise a BBQ or sausage sizzle and any merchandise from the invited groups.
Any way that's just my 2c

If we do it properly it will be good entertainment for all,
Those who have something to prove are on the dyno, show us what you've got :D
Those with plans can have a run to get their base line :)
Most important is the gallery to cheer everyone on, it's a strange form of entertainment but Dyno days are very entertaining with a good crowd

Sik, Are they a Shootout Mode Operator? or just a'plain' DD workshop?
Shootout would be good as it'll supposedly give a more 'equal' footign to numbers run at any other Shootout facility ;)
A.
Shoot out mode they do all that barometric conversion and **** like that dont they.
If we are mainly interested in figures against each other it doesnt really matter.
Wollongong being at sea level is probably ideal dyno conditions assuming good weather.

Mmmmmm buy booze get cheap petrol, deal ;)
Gonna have to start buying those slabs as it's gonna be a three tanker (each way  ) to haul the Cosmo that far. The roads will be interesting as well, Princess Hwy to Cann River then north on the Monaro to Kitty Kountry (takes about 90 minutes for me to get from home to the Hume) then cruse the remainder of the way with some ACT people. 8)

waiting on sydneysiders to find a place to have a dyno day and prices etc
Critter
13-03-2004, 02:28 PM
One thing is this:
What "kind" of dyno do you want?
For instance: A mate of mine went to the local guy in Penrith who says he calibrates "conservatively". It is the same type of dyno as used at the Final Battle, presumably 'calibrated for "numbers".
At a similar temp and conditions, 4 days apart, his car made 135kw at the wheels on the Tuesday "test" run and 177kw at the wheels Saturday at the Final Battle, same car same tune. Say no more....
So do we want some big numbers or don't we care (as if....)?
platypus
13-03-2004, 02:40 PM
critter, big numbers rule,
most importantly is tehre was always gonna be a bit of a show against each other, and as long as the calibration isn't changed between runs, every car will be playing on level ground....
if you had a time trial over a straight road, and then a twisty road of the same distance the times would be slower on the twisty road.. yeah? but if all the cars ran on the same road, you'd be able to find the better car (well driver really !)
twilightprotege
13-03-2004, 03:52 PM
i dont care about the numbers, it's more the comparison i'm interested in.
i'll only ever consider numbers from the dyno place i first got my car dyno tested at. that way i'll always have a base number to refer to.
i dont just want to go to the cheapest dyno place around if they dont know what they are doing. i went to see a few friends cars at a dyno day last weekend. the people basically drove the cars on and went straight into a dyno pull. the place i usually go to puts the car on, does 2 or 3 light pulls to make sure the car is ok and a/f ratios are all good, then they do a dyno pull. that's worth an extra $5 to me no worries.
so to answer your question critter - which ever dyno place knows their sh!t and is cheap.....knowing their sh!t wins hands down compaired to price though.
Critter
14-03-2004, 12:22 PM
I'll ask around on that basis.
In the end the number is only ever a relativity, so a dyno will only ever really tell you how much gain there was % wise in doing x modfication and % wise how one car compares to another under the same conditions/day.
The number is only a number......
Rupewrecht
16-03-2004, 11:51 AM
big numbers are nice, but the point of this is comparison, so as long as the playing field stays the same thats all that matters :)
dfvadr
16-03-2004, 08:31 PM
i dont who gets wat numbers from this because no 2 cars are the same so there for ur playing feild is never going to be level
the only real experince would be all the standard cars pulling different numbers from the factory settings
all said an done it should be good fun 4 all
twilightprotege
16-03-2004, 08:48 PM
yep i'm really looking forward to seeing so many astina's and protege's on a dyno run.
on other news, exhaust for my car is all sorted...header goes in for HPC treatment next week and the following week it shall be all sorted.
Just need to work out how i'm going to have the adjustable cam gears accessable so i can get the cams dialed in (1 setting for every day - ie as much low power as possible and 1 for power  - ie 5000rpm to redline)
sik astina
16-03-2004, 09:23 PM
Hey Guys,
About the Dyno Day I spoke to Kev about it and he said about $80 per car which
includes set up and 3 power runs with print outs in kws or hp.
Kev's never had a Dyno Day before and wasn't sure on what the going rate is.
Reason why we haven't organised one earlier is because Kev has been
really busy with the amount of work in his shop.
-Mick
twilightprotege
16-03-2004, 09:26 PM
$80 is a bit much.
in brisvegas, the cheapest i've seen is $25 (place where i go - they are one of the best dyno places in brisbane), but most are $30-$35. that is two runs plus a print out
Laser the Amazer
16-03-2004, 10:49 PM
surely for a group it would be cheaper then that?
I have been quoted by 2 places $85 and $90 just to have my car on the dyno there

$50 is the going rate for 2 runs with 1 print out at most places
We get the dyno for free in Canberra and then we charge ppl to make a little bit of money for the club. We only charged $20 a run when we do it.

I mean it's possible we could ring a few other dynoshops in Canberra and see if any of the others would be keen to host a day.... The problem is making it worth the guys effort to open p on the long weekend and all that.

Based on another forum, someone should contact SAS in Silverwater.
They are doing a day on the dyno for $45 (2wd) $55 (4wd).

28-04-2004, 11:59 PM
I think we're stuck for a location to hold it.
I would say Canberra OR Sydney are the go... Personally I would prefer Canberra as I'm way of my allowed kms in Bruce and really really want to put him on the rollers (plays with intake component that arrived from Perth yesterday) and I'm sure Kitty wants a Baseline curve/figure for the MX....
I guess we need to commit the 'out of state' people one way or the other. What is the furthest the QLD people will come... How far are Melb prepared to go?

29-04-2004, 10:10 AM
Agreed!!!!
And then we need to do it on a weekend that isn't taken up with something else too.
So what is halfway between QLD and VIC?
How many people are coming from which states?
Who is happy coming to Canberra, who is happy going to Sydney etc.
I have a futon lounge that is available for use, you will have to share it with the cats tho!

Long weekend.
Friday Organise the day off from work and drive to the location and arrive just in time for a feed and some grog with the other tired travellers.
Saturday Wake with a hangover do the 3S’s and scoff down a greasy breakfast before making your way to the dyno. Meet with the other AGT members and wait for the locals to rise, shine, get their ****e together and turn up  . Have a good day at the dyno before going on a bit of a cruise before grabbing a feed and some grog.
Sunday Wake with a hangover do the 3S’s and scoff down a greasy breakfast before meeting with everyone while waiting for the locals to rise, shine, get their ****e together, hang around and take some pics, drive somewhere else take some pics, until evening when it’s time to grab a feed and some grog.
Monday Wake with a hangover do the 3S’s and scoff down a greasy breakfast before meeting with everyone while waiting for the locals to rise, shine, get their ****e together, hang around and take some pics before heading home. About 20 minutes from home order a pizza and shoot through a bottle shop, go home and colapse in a heap.

01-05-2004, 05:59 PM
^ that's my plan :D except i've already arranged the friday off from work, and might head home on the sunday, drunk-o-meter permitting
and toyboy, the trip in 1 day is no problem at all. sit at 110 all the way from bris to sydney. takes about 9-10 hours taking it easy. have the music cranking, drinking lots of red bull / anything with a sugar overload... it's all good.
Yous are crazy to want to do that trip in 1 day man
last year i drove to canberra & back in one day ( 10:30am - 7am ) and then went to work the next morning abt an hr after arriving back in melb.

Hey Osprey06,
The more the merrier....
My car isn't an Astina anymore and Bruce is a Ford ;)
The great thing about AstinaGT is the community spirit even when we move on past the Astina. It is more about the attitude here.......
And of course there will be some mild competition on Dyno Day to see who and what is running better!!!
The MX5 Club will be sharing the Dyno Day with us, and we may also have some of the FordLaser.com peeps turning up too!
We may have to do this over 2 days, LOL!!
Get in early folks to get your name on the list.
MrShadow: Are you bringing the SP23 or what?
CosmicRod: I sure hope we can "encourage" you to come along too
OddRod: Get your butt down here son!
Critter: I need you here, for purely selfish audiophile reasons ;)
ToyBoy: You better bring that beast down here!
Mik and Leanne: I will be chillin' that champagne!
Dogo: *stacks on hugs* await!
Tony: are you bringing the Eunos out?
JJ: you are so there!
ABC: I don't think we are giving you a choice
Sabrelli: C'mon, you know you want to!
Preeman: See above!
Rob: I will finally get you a sticker, I hope!
BigMal: Can't let Jynx do all the drinking on his own... and I'm making Vodka Jellies for when we burn meat!
Come on Everyone, this will prolly be more like a combo Dyno and AstinaGT Annual Meet Early.....
Lets Party!

BigMal
04-05-2004, 10:35 PM
We dont have enough female members for it to be fun dude.
Maybe you and Mik should just get a room to yourselves !!
Are there all night clubs in Canberra maybe I can save $60
and just spend it staying awake !!!
Mal
Aaron
04-05-2004, 10:57 PM
*laughs* But Mal you'd probably be up for more than $60 in drinkies ;)
The F1 is possibly bigger than our place... However yes it's next door, for those on a bit more of a budget there's a few motels/hotels that do standby rates that are in the order of a $150 room for less than $100 and stuff like that but you sort of take your chances there.
An F1 is good enough for a sleep, a shower and for $54 a night will provide a double bed and a single bunk. Sort of a voyeur friendly environment I guess... but hey that's $18 each.... Use a sleeping bag and technically you're not sharing a bed with a stranger ;)
We can arrange the order on the day to suit people who want to be on the road in early arvo....
I'd like to think we can burn meat at the venue and so on to keep the group together. It'll also cut some costs out of the weekend. It doesn't take much $$ to put on a decent BBQ for a group. Couple of $$ each would sort it fine.
If we make a big weekend of it (CosmoDude style) then the cost will go up a bit, but I hope we can can cater for all pockets. There's plenty of good photo locations, BBQ spots, pubs etc that do a good feed for not too much $$ and still have good variety.
Any stragglers left on the Tuesday night can experience $5.00 Chicken Schnitzel....

Aaron,
You miss the point. You will be drinking anyway, cmon like there isn't going
to be drinking so if I put all my eggs into the old drinking basket I get
maximum drinking return. Turn up at 9am before checkout time and grab
a quick shower at somebodies place and I will still be ugly but not as smelly.
Better check my roster to see if I am off that weekend before I start setting
myself up for a party and cant go :(
