I went and got a quote for Kingsprings, the guy said he wouldnt be able to lower my car any more that 30mm, due to the fact that it will be constantly resting on the bumpstops. He said thats how cars loose control. Also modifing bump stops might f.up warranty.

What should I do, its looks so good lowered, but i want it to be a pro job & safe.

Any opinions would be great, thanking you in advance

Marty.

btw iv still got the stock 16" rims,

What did you do Zed?

The option is yours,
1. Drop it 30mm with the Kings, the spring rate is increased as well as the drop. I did it with my BA and I'm a happy camper.
2. Drop it the 50mm and suffer the bangs when they bottom out, ouch I don't recommend that solution.
3. Go down 50mm, adjust the length of the bump stops and loose the warranty.

4. Go the 30mm option untill the warranty is over and then go 50mm and sell the 30mm springs???

For my 2cents I'd pick option 4

why dont you get coilovers??? solutions all round.

yes they cost a fair bit more, but you can be as low or as high as you want and you will have a fantastic package without a doubt

Just drop it with Kings Lows.
i think its 30mm or 35mm.

At krispy kreme meet, u'll c a few sp20s lowered.

Mine's lowered about 35mm all round on standard King lowering springs. Looks and handles a heap better even on stock rims.

You've seen the pics of my car from the Newcastle cruise so that's pretty much what you can expect. Definitely worth it.

I know that mine are cut, but i don't know how much.. :( This may sound like a stupid question, but what do the bump stops look like??

Bumb stops are the big black rubber sleaves that fit onto the shock piston, most often they have the dust boot molded onto them. The tops get cut down to shorten them, you probably wouldn't know if it was done and is so simple anyone would need to be embarased to charge you money for it.

The bump stops are similar

hey if my suspension is clunking around a bit on corners, you reckon it could be coz of the bumpstops?

pls tell me quick, as i'm about to put the car up on blocks!!! fitment of odd parts!! (yes i'm sick today can't you tell?)

Rupewrecht
16-03-2004, 10:47 AM
nah, you wont get clunking from bump stops - they only really come into play when your suspension is fully compressed

platypus
16-03-2004, 10:52 AM
damn 3 minutes.. not bad lets try again...

i get the clunking when going around corners at full speed/lock
therefore i presume compressed...

when i installed my rear springs, they had a bit of play even after i did up the top strut nut

Rupewrecht
16-03-2004, 10:57 AM
well, no, just driving around the springs are only partially compressed by the weight of the car, and still have 50% (i dunno, just a likely figure) of their travel left.

so i'd just check all your bolts and stuff, and see if there's any marks on things that might be rubbing when the car is on the ground

platypus

naa did the check one week after i installed... nothing... did the check about 2 weeks ago.. nothing... they are just noisy ever since going low!!!

but like i said its only in corners at full speed, with full lock (ie full weight transfer)... hold up its when i go over the bumps on those corners.... oh i live with it still

OH.. it couldn't be that stupid punk arsed bolt that's near/above the sway bar is it?? I'm not sure how different the suspension setup is on a 99 model [BJ I assume] but that was my problem when I had my car lowered.. This happened in the front end too. See picture below.

hmm i go look...
i think i did see punk arsed bolt in a hayes manual....

platypus
16-03-2004, 05:33 PM
damn no punk arsed bolt.... the it sounds like the noise is coming from the top of the strut....

and everythign clears suspension ie no zorst sway issues

mrpayner
16-03-2004, 07:04 PM
well... POO!! That's no good then.. This punk arsed bolt was on the passenger side up front... and i'm almost positive that it's in a similar position on the driver side too..

Hope you get it sorted man.. i know that this bolt was annoying the crap out me!

maybe ur springs dont extend enough with weight transferr so it rattling in the housing till the weight gets back on it
solution put in kings

twilightprotege
16-03-2004, 07:53 PM
james it could always be the progressive rate springs of the eibachs hitting each other. that's what i think mine is so i've given up caring about the clunk every now and then

platypus
16-03-2004, 10:50 PM
hmmmm i might mark it somehow.... chalk or something...
yeah thats what stopped me worrying... that you had it too

i thinks sabrelli is on kings also, and he has the same issue...

twilightprotege
17-03-2004, 07:35 AM
i just get the clunks on rough roads. i've checked everything under the car and there is no issues, so i'm not worried at all

platypus
17-03-2004, 11:07 PM
oh its not like MP3 clunking... rough roads a little bit... but mainly the bad stuff is as decribed...

cars are noisy on rough roads anyway
