1993 modle. So the st185
As with any turbo FWD car that runs its gearbox east-west with a drive shaft to the rear diff, check the driveline. If the gears feel crunchy or hard to get into you might be up for a new box or even whole driveline. Apart from that just check the for the usual leaks and if anything that looks too clean, ask about it in depth as they may be trying to hide something. Also, when you test drive, if you can, get it on a highway as some problems can seem like nothing until you hit highway speed.

3S engine is strong.
Gearbox is strong.
Wide or narrow body?
Coxy's bro has a Carloz Sainz LE version. Went slower around QR and LS than his old NA6 MX5. The he modded it, and it fleeewww...

Really what mods he do???
It's stOck as a rock phill. Has a new clutch in it tho. But I think it's just the aussie spec st185. Not the rally one. As they had a sticker kit on them and this doesn't.

Stock is good when it comes to buying a used turbo car.
They were fun cars but the aus spec is majorly detuned compared to the JDM model.

Knew someone with one of these back in the 90's. They were 'kit' cars and you could get factory hot bits from the dealer, he had the group A transmission kit and clutch installed before selling it due to insurance costs.

$10 says Mat doesnt buy this :p
OT, the gearboxes are like glass, so too many hard launches will see you reaching for phone to the wreckers..

How do I put this.
If you like a Coupe - 100% better then a ealry WRX.
I had friend who had a 91 model with air to air cooler. I had another firend with the water to air cooler and 4 head light front end ealry 95 I think.
On paper you think not much. But both cars are totally different.
Both fulltime 4WD. The water to air model is the best -drives well in good condition and handles fairly well. But they eat shocks due to weight and brakes are Reasonable on that model by todays standards but not say todays wRX -EVO standard but not much in it.
Early models thme 1990 type with air to air. - hmm - in road test they claim better then all competition and they were. but today unless they are clean good condition many suffer and well instead of being quick are slow. I had a J-sepc auto Mx-6 GE with KLZE the GT-$ was typical of the early 00's cars on the market had the exhaust 17inch wheels and repalced intercooler with oversized front mount. If it were not for the auto and 4WD differences it was Mx-6 win. On the move it was a MX-6 win above 70km/h yes both were about 200HP - but lack of weight and only 2WD. Plus not major BS modificaitons
I've had rides in the past on good GT4's And they are one of the most forgoten toyotas. I personally had an eye on a top range with leather option 1996 model in white. They owner still has it untouched in the garage. it's still quick.
now in the shop - Clutch change not as bad as a GTI-R pulsar but not as easy as a WRX.
problems - overheating common. normally just lack of radiator fluid service and thermostat sticking.
Poor fuel - filters both in take and pre injectors.
interiors are typical toyota quality of the era, godo but tacking and sometimes damaged beyond repair.
body work - sunroof drain and boot with water from rear wing on latter models not being re-fitted and sealed correctly.
Hard to find original wheels.
best turbo 4WD car of it's era untill the evo 7-9. models or STI WRX's. Motors and gearbox strong and bodywork/ parts being a toyota reliable. Looks ? the GT4 has enough to make it look NOT like a two door camry.
