Hey guys
there is a Lakeside Raceway general Practice Day on Friday 11th of November.
$80 half Day or $120 for Full day.
I am thinking of taking the SP20 out for a bit of fun.
There are no restrictions as to race or road cars both are welcome. not a bad day for 120 bucks. plus 50 bucks fuel :)
Anyone interested?

Cheers
Matt

Oh yeh, I can see me getting along to this. I should definitely have my track only rims and tyres by then. Is this being run by the same guy/business that does the street sprints, open sprints, trackattack, etc? If so, they owe me $80, so $40 for a full day of practice sounds sweet to me.

Actually, why not do the one on the 5th that's on a Saturday? Is it cheaper for the midweek sessions?

General Practice Days are always before a big 2 day event.

Midweek sessions yes are always cheaper. but these gen prac days are even cheaper again.

this day is run by Queensland Raceways. trackattack etc is a 3rd party selling entry spots. they do not sell spots for special events like this.

Also - for a beginner, the morning session is always good to hit, as the serious guys tend to hit the track in the arvo seesion for practice for the weekends races.

Awesome. Don't suppose passengers are allowed to ride shotgun... I would love the chance at going round before going out in my own car. Happy to pay half of the cost...

Normal track day I've been to they allow passengers on at the end of the day at street speeds. Though this is a practice day. So might be different.

And when I say street speeds, the MX5s still did 150kph down the main straight. lol

Just gave them a call in regards to this day and it's just rock up and pay and drive. I've booked my day off work, can't wait!

I have also booked the day off, not to drive though, just to watch & take photos :D

As I said before, if allowed, I'm happy to take some people on some happy laps. I do plan to go home somewhere in the middle of the day though and have some chow and a shower and come back. The people running the food/drink hut out there must be millionaires by now. $5 for a powerade!!

Who do I call to enquire about it? I've got a helmet but so keen to get into the racing scene

derb
11-10-2011, 01:49 PM
I called 1800RACERS and they told me there is no booking, just come to the track and pay in the bottom of the tower building. You'll only need a helmet and long pant/long sleeve cotton clothing, but I don't even think that is fully enforced. Last time I went I wore a pair of work pants and an old business shirt and the pants were poly-cotton. It's all self-scrutineerd, so just rock up and race really.

Where would be a good place to get helmets?

Clean_Cookie
11-10-2011, 10:04 PM
Motorcycle shop? Make sure they have an a tick. Most offroad ones are a lot cheaper but do not meet safety standards, or haven't been tested

derb
12-10-2011, 08:24 AM
eBay for helmets? No one checks to make sure your helmet is ADR approved though. Just that you have it on your head.

FYI I paid about 180.in a shop for an ok one.

forgot to mention according to the QR website the track is open at 8am and will probably close at 5pm.
so plenty of time for peeps to get heaps of laps :)

also just realized there is a practice day this Saturday as well from 9am to 4pm must have missed that one when I was looking.
I will be doing some work on the car on Saturday so that's no good for me.

definitively looking forward to next Friday though.

Both of the prac days are actually in lead up to the Top Gear final round for the year on the Sunday. There will be some seriously fast cars there, so I'm hoping I won't get in the way too much. Either that or they run a newbie group, I just don't want to be mucking up people's practice when they are practising for the big race on Sunday and lapping 10 secs or more faster than me.

SIlversp20
02-11-2011, 02:52 PM
yeah thats true.
just have to keep an eye on them then :) or a newbie group. still should get our money's worth of track time :)

derb

Yeh it should be OK, just try not to be on track with that Torana. He is very fast and very selfish. There is a vid from my mate's car of the Torana trying to out brake him and take the line and nearly taking them both off the track.

My first run at Lakeside I was the first one out. I got overtaken by every other car behind me, but that's cool, I didn't even know the track and I stayed off the line and waved them past as often as possible. I even passed a Corolla on my second session. :P

So this is only 2 days away now. I'm still coming, but I don't have anyone who can come with to watch my toolbag and street wheels, etc. I was planning on bringing an esky with ice, water and powerades as the cost of food and drinks at Lakeside is criminal. But does anyone want to meet up just prior to entry or something? That or I get there around 8am and park across a 2 car bay to save a spot for someone.

Have fun guys, I have to work and can't get out of it.
Make sure you take lots of video.
Here is a tip for those with video cameras.
If you dont have a camera mount raise the passengers headrest and put your camera in the gap and push it back down. I used Velcro to hold mine in place.
It works a treat and looks like the passengers view.

Were the engines in the front or rear of those utes?

marcs_sp20

Front supposedly, im guessing the radiator and all piping were mounted in the rear though:

Oh, just as you and Ryan were heading up to the 3 & I was heading back to the car, one of the trucks lost its exhaust tip, it ended up landing close to the rear pits!

First session I almost lost it on coming into the first corner. shame the video camera wasnt going at the time.
had to come off early on the last run cause the car was sliding a bit.
brakes were getting soft and still had to drive home so safe side it was.
had an awesome time. met some other racers too, even if they are MX5's :p
