G'day fine people,

Since I've been sorta floating around on this site for a few months now I figured I should say an official Hello to everyone. So here it is:

Hello!

As a few pple already know I recently bought a white BG Astina (12/89) with 160K on the clock. As expected for a car of her vintage she is in need of some TLC - the mechanicals and engine are all hunky-dory but the interior - Sheesh! It's coming along nicely now but I'd like to know if anyone has any tips on restoring paintowrk (without resorting to a respray of course, wouldn't want to double the value of the car or anything :) I have seen some polish products around with different colours in them, has anyone had any success with these?

Also on the topic of exterior restoring is there any products that can restore the "blackness" to the plastic bits on the outside of the car (around the windows, the strip on the bumpers, etc)?

If anyone has any idea would be greatly appreciated.

So anyways yeah thanks to the people I have been chatting to so far here too for making me feel very welcome, it's a unique and great little community you guys have here! Hope to chat with ya'll again soon.

Cheers
MarkyMark

I've tried the coloured wax stuff, works OK but when it gets on the black trims it also colours them (had gold sparles on black plastic).
The black trim on the outside I've had some success with 'Scuff Stuff', the liquid shoe polish  same warning as above, it'll leave black stripes on the paint if you miss the target.

If it's looking a little unloved just have it properly detailed.

Welcome. Can't help you with the plastic problem I'm afraid, but boot polish works wonders on many other things!

Howdy again,

wow, boot polish, why didn't I think of that? Thanks guys once this rain in Newcastle p'ss off I'll try it out and let you know how it goes.

Add that to the long list of household cleaning products I have already used on the interior, from carpet stain remover, dettol, bleach and that vanilla fridge wipe spray, that stuff is awesome for getting rid of nasty smells by the way!

Nasty smells inside car....

unless you want to go for the steam cleaning option, which you can do yourself at most car lovers these days, you can try things like nil odour or febreeze as well.

There is also a wipe product that is orange based too.

I am still trying to figure a way to get rid of smell in the aircon, someone once told me there was a removable pollen filter but I have yet to find it.

Any product you put on the exterior of the car will need to be maintained whether it be boot polish or armourguard (which works well on my doorhandles).

hey yeah thats aircon smell sucks, it best not to get that smell in the first place, and turn on the aircon and let normal air run thru all of the pipes b4 you turn off the car, in most cases the smell is from mould in the aircon pipes. HIGHLY uncool!!!!

 PS i may be wrong but i'll only admit it when somone proves it!!!

first hi welcome!!!!!!
second i'm a moker... and in the car *smacks head*
febreze is good for seats, you can get canned a/c freshner... looks cheap costs about 15...

coloured polish works good.... using swirl remover, and then putting polish ontop is helpful too..... saves having to get polished stuff all the time... (i can't see the paint remember)

for black bumpers i had a mad product, and havn't been able to find for ages... right when i need it too!!!!
its called black chrome, and applies like boot polish, but leaves a much better look, plus is hella easy to remove from paint!!! just polish the car first and she's sweet

i know singletons miles from everything... but you up for a cruise this weekend?? (take your pick!!)

steeeeeeeenking smoker!

I use coloured polish on every third or fourth polish or so..... the Meguires gets used the rest of the time :D

you set a/c to recirculate...
spray can until empty into a/c, and run for 15 minutes or something... its got some odour neutralizer in it

availablity supercheap? repco?
(has anybody noticed the amazing amount of references to supercheap??)

oh yeah other option is to get the a/c regassed and deoderized (invoves more than $20)

Yeah, we had 3 inches of rain last night. But guess what, I bet not one drop fell in our water catchment area, which means, water restrictions! grrrrr We're not allowed to wash our cars now (well, "hose" them anyway)

Thanks guys I'll try the coloured polish stuff, soon as it stops raining up here in Newie (and asuming my car doesn't float away in the small flood I have to drive through to get home this afternoon).

Black Chrome, that sounds very sexy, I'll have to keep my eyes out

Is there a cruze happening this weekend James? I'll be in Newcastle this weekend, just moved here for a few months for work (and living in Singleton was starting to sh!t me to the max). Are there any other members from good old Singo? I have seen a few 'tina's cruzing around but none with any obvious work. I'll have to get some of these cards I hear people talking about - there's a link on here somewhere isn't there?

Did I see mention of a night a Krispy Kreme's coming up soon too? My g/f loves those things, I might come down to say hello :)
