G'day peoples,
I have a sony HU and it has a removable plug that connects all the wires to the HU. Seems I have put this plug and little bundle of wires somewhere for safe keeping and, well, obviously I put it away too well cause I cannot find it. Does anyone know any places where I would be able to source a new one in either Newcastle or Sydney?
Also on the same topic I know you can buy adaptors that connect say a sony HU to the standard mazda plug, does anyone know where I could get one of these? I asked at JB's where I got the HU but they said they could only get them for popular cars like commo's and stuff. I know it is easy enough to solder the wires together but it would be even easier to just plug something in. . . (I'm lazy I know)
And a third question while I'm here - can anyone who has pulled the front speakers out of a BG astina tell me is there some sort of glue or something around the speaker that holds it in place as well as the screws? Cause I undid all the screws on my passenger side one last week but there was no way it was budging outa that door, somthing else was holding it in.
Cheers!

yeah i brought mine from supercheapauto for $20 aswell
i brought the mazda harness to ISO(universal) harness, it was just a simple plug and play. but my HU is a JVC one which had an ISO harness output.
the brand was aerpro, this is there web site www.aerpro.com

Cool, thanks guys, I'll have a look at SCA today. I'm not sure exactly whan an iso-fitting looks like but hopefully that is what is on the back of the Sony HU, that way both my problems will be solved.
Cheers :)

Else head somewhere like Sony Central (http://www.sonycentral.com.au/home/index.cfm) in Chatswood. I'd take along some ID and try to find proof of purchase, a box or something to show that it's yours legit not stolen or they may be reluctant to help you.

super cheap should be able to order from the aepro catalog....
i had a look at it ages ago, and they have stuff for standard mazda plugs, to sony head unit
costs $35 (off my head)
sony HU are not ISO standard... only a few do ISO... i think philips, blaupunkt, JVC, Alpine, and VDO Dayton
of course what you could do is to write a letter to sony australia, tell them your sad story, with proof of purchase, mention your a student, and member of a highly influential motoring club!!!
i lost my remote (seriously no idea - home stereo) told them some BS and a week letter i get a package with a new remote control, and parts kit (plugs etc)

Cheers boys, I might try the supercheap option first up, and if I don't have any joy I'll try Sony. I still have the original box, maybe even the recpit too actually, so they shouldn't give me too much grief, but if the supercheap one will go straight from my mazda plug into the back of my HU then that's an easier option, no soldering required.
I just bought some new 6 1/2 inch pioneer speakers to replace the front door ones as well so hopefully by next week it will be sounding a bit better than the current fairly crappy stock set-up.
I'll have to try the sob story letter next time I misplace something James, you know one of my mates got off a speeding ticket recently by writing a sob story letter, I'm not sure what he told them but he got out of the fine.

Cheers, looking at the Aerpro catalogue (thanks CityEnd for that link) looks like they make a Mazda-to-Iso, and a Iso-to-Sony, but not a direct Sony-to-Mazda one. The dude I just spoke to at Newcastle Pro sounds also said they didn't make a direct Mazda-to-sony one. Bummer looks like I'm buying one of each and hooking them all together.
James, I was heading down the putty from Singo one rainy night and came upon the non-signposted hair-pin at Colo Heights a bit too fast, prob doing about 80km/h when I saw the corner. I hit the brakes but started to slide on the wet road. I was headed for the armour-rail on the outside of the curve and I really didn't want to find out what was on the other side of it, so I stopped breaking and tried to stear around the corner. Got all the way around too, for a split second i was facing the right way and I thought I was going to pull it off, but the front suddenly took an abrupt left turn and I plowed head first into the side of the mountain. That stopped me pretty quickly :) bounced back off the sandstone onto the other side of the road, lucky nothing was coming the other way.
And that was the end of my nice little Pulsar Reebok. Didn't have a single scratch or dent anywhere on it before that either, three years of driving without a mark, I was pretty crushed (not as crushed as the front of my car though).
But that's life, if I hadn't destroyed him I would never have bought my Astina and met all you cool people :)

yay for understeer abruptly gripping.... new astinaGT member
haha i had a real boys look over this forum!!! didn't notice the linky
you want the one like KE-12.. but for sony?

Yeah, exactly, but for sony. It's weird the link says "sony to factory fitted" but there are no sony ones, just kenwood. Since I'm probably going to have to buy replacement for the wire bundle I lost it would have made more sense to buy one that pluged straight in, but why is life never that simple??

get ya dealer to ring up aerpro... as the actual KE-12 (for eg) isn't in the new catalog..
i can check on it down here if you so wish...

I spoke to a guy from Aerpro, there is actually a page of sony bits that wasn't linking on thier web site properly. They make a harness with model number SP20 that fits the 1990 323 but unfortunately doesn't fit my model sony HU, only later models.
I spoke to sony, and have a guess how much their spare parts people quoted me for a replacement loom?
Wait for it...
$75!!!!!
Plus $8.80 postage and handling. Needless to say I was not impressed.
So I let my fingers do the walking and rang around a few places. JB, Strathfield, Dick Smith, Jaycar, even Supercheap all held no joy. Finally got on to Newcastle Pro Sound. They have a loom that they assure me will fit my HU for $35, so that's what I'm going to do, and just bite the bullet and solder it in.
And next time I'm not buying a Sony!

And next time I'm not buying a Sony!
i just wouldn't lose the loom....
good to see it worked out for you!!

I guess if someone spent $100 on a hot head unit then got slugged another $75 for the wiring loom they would think twice before doing it again.
Shame that the innocent have to pay the price for the minority of those who do the wrong thing.

Yeah I figured that was the reason too Cosmo, although if someone was going to lift one wouldn't they lift the wires too? I put it down to Sony tax - if you loose / wreck your wires you're not going to chuck out the whole HU are you? You'll pay what ever they want as long as it's less than the HU. Lost of spare parts places know this, I guess they have to make their money too.
Anyway, worked out OK in the end, $35 is a reasonable price to pay for stupidity I guess :)
Whats the bet in about 2 weeks time I'm posting a "for sale: Sony HU wire bundle. Lost and recovered"
At least I know the market value now. . . . . :)

LOL!!!
If you post that for sale, I would hope there is an equal RIP posted somewhere for the death of Murphy and his laws.....
Geez I want to take to him with a baseball bat one day, LOL!!!!
Good to hear you got it all sorted though, well done!
