Thought i might as well start a thread for my project, pictures will come when i sort them out, but for now just the info.

First car was a burgandy BG Astina SOHC with minor mods including king low springs, 17" momo wheels, custom honda accord body kit, two tone carbon fibre vinyl, glass sunroof, tinted tail lights, custom silver interior paint, 7" jensen audio flip out touch screen, 6" eclipse fronts, 6x9" pioneer rears and a pioneer 10" sub, custom CAI under head light, 2" cat back exhaust.

Anyway i sold this car shortly after getting my open license and decided it was time for an upgrade so i decided to get a 1993 BG Astina SP with the 1.8 DOHC BP05 motor as i knew they were a powerplant to work with.

When i bought the car it was half the market price, even though it had rough paint, caved in front nose cone, messed up roof lining, ripped driver seat, original wheels, screwed clutch and just general wear and tear. It was however untouched as it still had the tape player, original speakers etc. so this is where i started doing it up to get it looking as good as my first BG.

1. Fixing up the 190,000km engine with $1200 worth of repairs with new
- engine mounts
- clutch
- timing belt
- hoses
- clutch slave cylinder
- ignition leads
- spark plugs
- tyres
- K&N panel filter
- valve cover gasket
- coolant
- oil
- etc.

2. Replacing the front nose cone
- the nose panel was absolutely destroyed so i sourced a new one from a red astina and replced it, while at the same time doing the same under headlight CAI.
- i then wrapped this panel in 3M carbon fibre vinyl so it didnt stand out like dogs balls compared to the bright red

3. Wheels
- i put my 17" momo wheels from my first astina onto the car, which made it look 100000000x better

4. Bar Lights
- while searching for new seats i stumbled across almost brand new front bar lights and replaced them (which people always want to steal when they see that they're not faded)

4.1 Lip
- custom sportivo lip was found fairly cheap from a 180SX in parkinson, so i snapped it up knowing i could make it fit. At the moment its only test fitted before i mould it into the body, but it can stay like that for now :)

5. Steering Wheel and Knob
- i replaced the steering wheel with a new leather saas one, which is grey and black which matches the car perfectly and to go along with this i replaced the gear boot and knob with matching colours and style.

6. Paint
- the paint on the rear panels, roof and bonnet were atrocious so i decided to go something different and go the two tone paint with the factory silver on bottom and the deep black with silver flake on top (which needs to be redone due to the clear going off)

7. Roof Liner
- I decided to hell with this stupid ripping roof liner i want to replace it, so instead of going factory i decided to do a custom black suede roof liner (which was hard because of the sunroof) and delete the roof handles from above each door.

8. Current Stage (BPT)
- the car is jacked up and the engine pretty bare, already have sourced all the BPT parts since january 2012. The intake manifold is on, exhaust manifold with turbo and dump ready to go on. FMIC ready to go on with the custom black piping and black intercooler then its all the fiddly hoses and stuff to sort out, except for the fabrication work which needs to be done for part of the IC piping and the exhaust.
BP turbo is up and running 24/06/2012 at approximately 1pm :) at 8 psi already need a hd clutch...got a new oem clutch 10,000km ago hahaha that's how much more power it has that it is slipping in 3,4,5 already after 2 test runs :P

Wooo, about time you started a project thread! I didn't realise your motor was so 'fresh' either, definitely sounds like a good motor to strap the turbo gear to. Suede roof liner is pimp too.

Yeah I searched for cars with straighter bodies but most had 260,000+ km so i decided go for the not so good looking but fresher motor :)

Intercooler piping done...and custom. Intake pipe done from pirtek with flexible 1 3/4" heat resistant metal and fabric woven pipe tied to the AFM. Bov is all hooked up. Exhaust is getting done tomorrow along with the tapped line for the wastegate and then t into that for the boost gauge :)
Stock with fmic instead of smic should see about 11-12psi standard instead of 8....also found out I have to cut the bumper slighlty to fit it on with the pipes

BP turbo is up and running :) just had a few issues like **** spark plugs so replaced those again and then after my 2nd test run down the street the oem BP clutch I had installed 10,000km ago is now slipping in high 3,4,5 gears hahaha goes to show the power difference. Now awaiting a mod plate sometime and insurance is getting done tomorrow

Super sweeeet!!! Awesome to hear it's up and running with no major troubles. Also, clutch slip just lets you know the motor is running properly. :p Any idea on time for a mod plate? I want a ride soon!

Gearbox is coming out this weekend thanks to jared, its receiving a new hd clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, spigot bearing and a machined flywheel :) which means that it will finally get a good boosting and be a warm up for the dyno day

Yay! I'm definitely going to try and get my hybrid turbo on for the dyno day.

Hey just called around. Npc is cheaper for my clutch than direct clutches... Both modified exeedy hd ones. 310 vs 230 but not sure on exact specs.

I've got a custom NPC unit and can't fault it. You HAVE to slip it to get off the line smoothly, but it's been slipped for 3 years now and it has yet to slip under load even once.

Called npc at 9....they're already making my clutch and pressure plate

rogerstrampoline

Lets hope they make the right clutch and plate for my car...I told them power above what mine was just to make sure it will handle :)

BTW i didnt get mine picked up this arvo. realised I needed money which I don't have until wednesday night. so no clutch for me.

rogerstrampoline
03-07-2012, 05:13 AM
Yeah I've gotta wait until I can fibish work early enough to run up there....also they said they would call me :) hopefully i don't have to replace the clutch again

Want to take it for a test up my neck of the woods? Possibly bring your grinder and a stud. :D

In that vein maztech, how do you feel about doing onsite support if my k-frame still doesn't want to drop out?

What's happening and that's one reason why I got the ute ( mobile workshop and tow if needed )

Nice car goes hard , gotta sort out boost stuff though. And it was good to meet you. You got some work to do before dyno day .

rogerstrampoline
07-07-2012, 04:50 PM
You too man :) yeah gonna put the boost gauge in tomorrow morning and then sort out the intake etc next weekend....got a bit of time before dybo day.

DOHC turbo decals arrived and are installed :) ended up getting I think 40 hahaha some gold some silver.....also have a single stage turbosmart boost controller that will be wired up after i return from melbourne....gonna try hide the switch well :)

Took her apart again last week to port the wastegate, check the actuator, check all the lines and put a new manifold gasket on :) unfortunately the boost is still spiking :( so im guessing its a leak issue maybe

rogerstrampoline
13-08-2012, 11:43 AM
Just took my AFM and hoses out, made a custom mount and got a 90 degree bend for the pod so she is finally mounted correctly :) also ran a new line for the idle control so it idles a lot nicer now :) thats one defect down hahaha

rogerstrampoline
26-08-2012, 08:02 AM
Car went on the dyno yesterday with an exhaust manifold leak...told them to only take it to 5800rpm cuz i don't rev the car above that ever! And it pulled 161.1hp at the front wheels on 12psi :) stoked with that result! Was running a bit lean but that can be fixed quite easily

project.r.racing
26-08-2012, 08:08 AM
what rpm did it make max power? or is max power at 5800rpm?

rogerstrampoline
26-08-2012, 08:22 AM
Yeah he said the turbo stopped making power at 5800 anyway :) so no point in revving it if it doesn't do anything

derb
26-08-2012, 10:44 AM
Awesome figure dude! Much better than my questionable 141hp atw from Rotary Motorsport.

Clean_Cookie
26-08-2012, 10:49 AM
So questionable as in the dyno accuracy or the actual power its making? What's an average bpt make at the wheels in a 2wd?

derb
26-08-2012, 02:58 PM
The dyno. It was a dyno day and the thing was setup for cars with 300+hp. It says right on the readout that its configured for some kind of V8. I would want to see at least 155-160hp for a stock BPT with boost turned up.

project.r.racing
26-08-2012, 04:38 PM
140-150hp would be what i'd expect from a stock bpt setup. so 141 isnt that bad.

rogerstrampoline
26-08-2012, 08:34 PM
But considering derbs has better regulation on air, fuel and boost his should be putting out more than my 161hp

Clean_Cookie
26-08-2012, 08:44 PM
You do have an na head, higher compression etc. Wonder if swapping cams would improve power at all?

rogerstrampoline
27-08-2012, 05:51 AM
A lot of guys with bpt actually put the na exhaust cam in and keep yheir bpt intake cam....but yeah I guess higher comp, larger degree of cams and high flow head

27-08-2012, 01:41 PM
I think it be best from here to do some research into what power others have made with what mods.

There is a reason why there is a 15kW difference between the cars.

rogerstrampoline
27-08-2012, 02:55 PM
My jap SPEC ecu? Got it the night before the dyno hahaha apparently makes extra 15kw over the aus SPEC

I though simmo had a BP26 also.

Going to check out my new motor tomorrow...an actual bpt with between 140-160,000km and its very cheap :) was gonna hold out but i think if i put it in I can take it past 5800rpm unlike at the moment because I'm unsure what would happen if i rev out the high comp motor hahaha.

To keep Phil happy I just took everything off the exhaust side to redo my manifold gasket with the metal gasket and some gasket maker to give a proper seal. Scrubbed both sides and gave them a light sand, cleaned everything and now just waiting for it to dry to tighten slightly more then leave her overnight to cure.

Nah man I cleaned the gasket up, scotch brite both surfaces and used a gasket maker aswell as the gasket
