so i finnished removing the black stips off the doors that you can see in all the other pics and the mud flaps , i should of done the mud flaps when i first got the car looks so much better

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/phone2010.jpg
and you'll se the after shots in the next photos:)

the removal of the strips was easy as just hit the edge with a hair dryer untill it was hot and then it just peeled off

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/phone2019.jpg
http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/phone2018.jpg

so that was the easy bit then came the garstly challange of removing the sticking adhesive and glue :|

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/phone2027.jpg
http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/phone2020.jpg
http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/phone2025.jpg

so as excited as i was to sit there an peel it off, i recived a message of azz ( bg1.8sp) to get a bloody caramel wheel.
and so i did and thank god i did, took about an hour to have it all striped back and polished up :)

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/phone2030.jpg

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/phone2036.jpg

i also recived my clear side indicators aswell but i hated them so i just tinted the original orange ones and i'm very happy:)

yer my RH rear door i believe has had a clear coat respray there's a little step on clear around where the strip use to be but that's like one of the good things with the colour it's not really noticeable unless you get fairly close to it, but yer doors aren't tinniy at all.

i can't wait to get the cx7 either as soon as rego is paid and i get everything to do the 5 stud conversion they will be on:) i'll try and be really detailed and take heeps of photo's for anyone else looking to do the conversion,

what do use reakon keep them in allow or get them powder coated black??

i think i'll use that stuff you told me to use first for a couple of weeks after i get them on azz

Same thing happens to mine :D These BJ has very thin shell so they flex a lot without the door strip

probaby the only reason they put them on there to start with, and so nan doesn't wreack the paint work then she opens the door on another car at the mall or a fence

sprayed mine black, reckon looks better than normal alloy silver, also if you get them painted/powder coated you can take the M out of the centre cap, use a small flatbladed screwdriver gently and they should pop right out

Yeah but it's a wierd colour... And black and silver will both look good... But he just hasn't decided yet.

Hence why I suggested to buy a couple of cans of plasti dip.
Spray the rims to give an idea... If you don't like them black peel it off.
If you like it... Go get them powder coated.

It's the same though I had with mine.....
Was going black black black.... Which gives it that more aggressive stealth look...
But I just needed a Highlight as such... Making everything black takes away from eye catching things... So the silver rims brought that back! Hmmmmmmm
I has an idea...........
This up comming mod day... Do a rim swap session... You can put my rims on yours (just don't drive off with them) give you an idea of silver... And if someone is willing put some black 18's on Andrews car....
Actually... Do one side my rims and one side black rims and compare!

HAIGHIE
11-07-2012, 08:31 PM
Lol hammo,
Your an ideas man azz, i know what i'm going to do, just powder coat 2 rims and do one side black and one side, silver, and then when i want change just put all the black on the rear or a colour on each corner lol, i got it hopefully i'll have the 5stud conversion done my then so we can put jess on :)

Bad... I have absolutely no idea how long it's going to take, could be this week... Could be a month...
Even worse news. If its after the 10th of September then I won't be able to get them to you until the 21st of October. As u will be in the US of A!

So let's just hope they come within the next few weeks aye :p

those dials should fit my US model p5 no problem right ? all the same?

thanks for the info by the way :)

wonder if they have or make ones with mph tho :/

BG1.8sp
24-08-2012, 11:16 PM
Yep you can, when you order you just sent a pic of your stock dials, and they will send you the correct faces. Also you asked in my build thread where I got my dials. From eBay as well... Except mine were from 'MoMan'
If there isn't a set up ATM, just wait a couple of weeks and they will pop up.

Same goes for that seller to, sent them a pic and they sort out the MPH, KPh, the rpm/redline etc.

kool man you'll have to come out to our next meeting so we have 2 gold mazdas,

the 5 Stud conversion was so to say quite easy just time consuming,

you'll need the front and rear hubs off an sp20 and new brake rotors and either get a lock nut set for the extra stud or buy a new set of wheel nuts,(5 stud ones lol) " FamiliaGTX" has a full set of hubs, calipers and rotors for sale at a good price,
but yea it's pretty straight forward, just unbolt and re-bolt up if you need any addvice or a hand just give us a bell man

you can put the sp20 rear lower control arms on if you want( there shorter ) but just a heep of extra work for (what i would call lesser gain) getting the bottem of the wheel inside the car body, mine has poke :) and then i just x-drilled my top hub bolt holl on the rear shock to allow me to put negitive camber on the rear wheels so the top of the tyre fits in the guardif your car is lowered

what wheels you planing on running?

just for everyone to get an idea of the camber/poke the car has
i will take more photos tomorrow and put them up displaying it a bit better but you get the idea

currently running -3deg camber
http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/006.jpg

and as matt said the 1.8 lower control arms about 1" loger then the sp20 ones and just not worth the effor to drop the rear X-member to change them

I'll try and get to the next meet..

Ok so on the way back from the JDMST yesterday when i got home i noticed the car making a bad noise, sorta sounds like the timing belt slapping the timing cover crossed with the noise a v6 commo makes when the harmonic balancer breaks and flops around :(
Great more money will look at it during the week and maybe fix it after work on friday if it's an easy/cheap fix, so stay tuned,
God i hope it cheap

nar just look like it's matching in the pic (wish it was the same)
now i just gotta get all the sp20 interrior so it matches better as it's darker then the astina interrior,

the dash will be fun but the peice that needs doing the most but it's not to bad as everything id the lighter grey so it give it the two tone look

Same as what I used on my dash. How does your lining feel now its dyed? I'm worried it will be crunchy rather than soft. The instructions said to use a comb over it as it was being sprayed. Is this what youdid? Looks great!

HAIGHIE
28-10-2012, 11:47 PM
yer it's not to bad i didn't comb it but it's pretty good it's gone a little bit like dry paintish but not really if that makes sence, it's still soft and that but just ever so slightly dry,

i reackon if i was to comb it now it might brake it up a bit and make it nice and soft as it was originally but to be honest it's not that bad i'm not even going to worry about it,

i love it

oh and azz don't freak out when you die the pillars and they look black black ( like i did) it'll look good once in the car, i was worryed ay thats why i said i wasn't happy with it but it'll do for now untill i put in in then it just looked unreal

so completed my mazda CX-9 ( or CX-7 turbo) brake upgrade on friday :)
result: unreal except no ABS is a sligh problem but i'll get use to it.

wasn't as easy as i thourght it was going to be but it's on and works great but for anyone looking to do the upgrade i highly sugest to just do the mazda 6 brake up grade as it is a straight bolt on, and theres a fair bit of messing around to get it to fit and you have to use the 299(300)mm rotor from the mazda 6 wagon.

Not just a Mazda 6 wagon. But any Mazda 6 GH has the 299mm rotor (wagon or sedan)
GG= 273 (or something close)
And GY = 282

Looking good andy! The 2pot's look sexy!

so what exactly you did to make those work? details! details!

Yeah andy! I would like to know also.....

Jks, I already know ;) but shhhhhh lol

I will give you a hint... He did stuff to one (or more) of these items...

The caliper bracket and/or the knuckle mounting point, and/or the hub mounting point and/or the rotor.

That might narrow it down a little bit ;) hehehehehehe

HAIGHIE
03-02-2013, 12:16 PM
ok Ed details, but if anyones going to tell be about structual integ and what not i know but i have left more then enough.

anyways

so what you need
Mazda CX-9 ( or CX-7 Turbo) brake calipers and mounting brakets, and bolts

to make it fit:
so you have to use the mazda 6 brake rotors (299mm) rotors, as the CX- 327mm rotor is to wide for the caliper braket to reach the holes on the hub nuckels about 12mm(1/2") off, if that makes sence. so the 299mm rotor is a perfect fit.

once i had figured out the rotor problem i then had the issue with the rotor wouldn't sit flush becuase the caliper braket was to wide and would foul on the rotor preventing it to sit flush againt the hub, so i made the decision to just do it as i have already paid for the brakes so i had nothing to loose.

so i machined the braket out a little bit with a grinder to recess it back a bit to give it clearance

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/B2C18AF6-6736-40A2-B8B5-A7E1A4B9466D-9323-00000EA571599496_zpsfba2644a.jpg

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/E5E37353-B03C-4F6A-9F99-6F448C51EA8C-9323-00000EA574A4779D_zps161d11a4.jpg

then once you have it all mounting evenly you have to drill out the two holes on the hub with a 9/16ths drill bit ( just slightly bigger then 14mm) so the bolt can go through easily ( bolt is M14 ).

as far as brake lines go its all direct swap.
the peddel is the tinyest bit softer up top but is still very firm, i still have to adjust the hand brake up a little as it is currently not so good. so that might just be my problem love the handbrake adjustment so easy :)

the advantage of this over the mazda 6/CX-7 non turbo. is well i haven't messure the pistons yet so i can't say its a stronger braking force but i ges it's a little bit more evenly despenced braking force over the pad, and the pad has an extra 3mm of friction surface at the bottem compaired to the mazda6 pads, but really over all it's not going to be noticeable, my bigest problem ATM is no A.B.S. lol,

i just have to get use to not having to stomp on the brake anymore as i use to have to do :)

also i think an up grade to the rears would help balance out the braking distrabution aswell an not make the front SO dominate.

if you have anymore questions ed i'll be more then happy to answer as best i can :) you could posible be the fisrt person in the state to complete this conversion :)

you don't need to adjust the hand brake... you need to adjust the rear calipers first so that the pads will get applied sooner!

you should be glad you don't have ABS on this car.... the BJ's ABS system is rubbish! It's overly sensitive and activates too soon! The rear sensors are also prone to getting stuffed

I don't remember... do you have rear drums or rear discs?

so EDM rear brakes then for almost painless bolt-on installation ;)
get better pads for the rears than front, that will solve the brake bias problem somewhat... or do it right and get a brake controller valve... not sure if that will get you defected though

Azz remeber when i stomed on the brake way to early in your car hahah same thing all the way through natio, it just stops the car to the point where i'm like dam i'm going way to slow now, gess i will just have to get use to it :)

so today i under took my own quest of fitting a FS intake cam int to my FP :p

for the differences :

FP: 225 duration, 7.9mm lift

FS: 241 duration, 8.6mm lift

the FP has an overlap of 6deg

the FS has an overlap of 7deg

with the FS intake and FP exhaust you get an overlap of 11deg

so not massive spec difference, and power gain wise not really all that noticable, but power curve has been moved completely, the FP sufferes badly down low and then really cam alive at 4000k mark, now my car has a nice smooth power curve from about 2-2500k mark up to 5500 then really comes alive goes to limiter really easily, my biggest problem now is the limiter being to low,

so over all i have no idea if its quicker or slower as i said not a massive noticable power difference but the power curve has been shifted and changed :) over all i will be driving the car like this for 3 weeks untill i go to the drags again and see what the difference is, if it's worst i will probly keep it like this still as i CBF to swap it back, but i'm thinking it could only be worst because the engine isn't able to rev to its power band,

and at the end of the day cost me nothing at all had everything laying around and it was just a matter of staying back at work 4 and extra 3 hours,

of and i also got this today :)

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj613/Haighie93/00B4D842-12F3-4FC2-8ED9-D7D5CBDC3503-4599-00000835B9ADE3F3_zps387f073b.jpg

my new perry muffler :) was a nice little addition also

i also now have a very slight cam sound to the exhaust note at idle :p

TheMAN
15-02-2013, 09:16 PM
increasing overlap reduces low end power/torque, due to exhaust reversion... high RPM power is increased because of better scavenging, longer duration, and higher lift... this allows more air into the engine at high RPM

HAIGHIE
15-02-2013, 09:22 PM
exactly:) and thats exactly where its moved the power curve up, the car start to come alive at 5500 and then hit limiter 6700 way to easily but it has smoothed out the low end though, it's not as slugish and reves evenly and smoothy all the way up till it start to reach it's power band,

so i'm gessing the extra lift and bigger duration is helping the low end, but the real difference it up top but high then i'm able to reach :(

TheMAN
19-02-2013, 10:59 PM
I just thought of one thing
if you put the FP-DE exhaust cam back in, you'll get even better top end performance than the FS exhaust cam... it will bump the overlap up to 11 degrees... DO IT!!!

HAIGHIE
19-02-2013, 11:14 PM
thats what i've got in ATM:) i only changed the intake cam to the FS intake cam :)

one better i'm going to put another FS intake cam in place of my exhaust cam as i will still have my 11deg of overlap but with a 8.6mm lift insted of the 8.1mm lift :) and bring the exhuast duration up from 230deg to 241deg. food for thourght :)

so i will kind of have exactly the MSF TBS cam specs plus .5 deg overlap :)

hey man sorry for the epic late reply

yer the cams going good man, down low its about the same maybe a little bit more sluggish but up in the rev range it really comes alive, i always noticed the FP would start to run out of puff about 5800rpm and would really only come on to a power band from about 4000rpm. so not much to play with,

with the cam in it starts to move about 3800rpm and just REV's n REV's n REV's :) and then you hit limiter :( lol but yer it really suffers from the 6700rpm limiter. i would like to bump it up to about 7400rpm, from about 6200rpm it really starts to pick the revs up nicly but just straight to limiter (yes i hit limiter alot lol but its way to easy lol) :) and even on the outside of the car it doen't sound like its reving its hole either it actually sounds very comfortable.

putting the FS INTAKE cam in place of my EXHAUST cam will be happening as soon as i can get my hands on one lol, but hopefully it should just really even out the powerband a little bit smoother but again i think i'm going to suffer from the poor red line our cars have.

over all i think it was a great mod to do. the 1/4 - 1/2 throttle range is much more toey and responsive aswell so when you are just crusing it just purrs along. i would love to say go and do it but if i was to hepl you out in anyways i gess i would say just hold off untill i can undertake putting the FS intake in for the Exhaust aswell to see if its better to just get both of them done instead of having to do it/get it done twice :) but as soon as i do get my hands on one i will let you all know :)

MOTOR DECIDED TO CARK IT TODAY:(

pretty neg about it but just means bigger and better things to come :)
i'm taking this as the strip and rebuild phase :)

list of items to be going in new engine.

forged wiseco pistons
forged k1 rods
ARP head stud kit
ACL race series bearing through out the motor

head ported and slightly polished, with looking at maybe 1mm oversized valves on the intake and not sure if possible but maybe 2mm on the exhaust as the heads on these cars were the point where they relised they were running out of money and were like he i found these stick them in she'll be right.
along with some new stainless valve guides, and new valve springs.

and then bolting all the MSP gear with the GT28, and REDSTAR intercooloer system :)

so a bit to do in the next month or 2 but should be well worth it :) and then i will worry about the gearbox later :) lol

so no body invite me anywhere because i have to save :)

And sorry to hear man :(

Also dont worry so much about the intake its the exhaust that needs the work :) What redline are you aiming for? If your not aiming too high then I wouldnt worry about doing that much head work. Remember changing the size of the valves will affect your bottom end. Head with a small amount of work done will flow 7500 easy :)

Those rods wont work then, no real need to get longer rods on an FP. If your just after some forgies check out some forged BP rods IIRC there similiar BE, might need some slight machining to fit. You'd gain about 2 mm in rod length :)

I wouldn't go much bigger if any bigger on the intake tbh id be focusing on the exhaust valves. There tooo small and im kicking myself now that I didnt have them enlarged by a mm. Also wish i had had the exhuast ports mirrored in hope of getting better exhaust velocities.

Remember the bigger the valves are the lower your intake velocity will be and thus the worse the engine will perform at lower rpms. Honestly man at that sort of redline you don't really need any big head work, port patch, smooth out machining marks and you'd be under way :)

EDIT: Might even be able to use a BP piston on top, but youd wanna check this out.

I'm getting rods made to the same specs as the stock FP rods but obviously stronger. So really just the same length and same jernal sizes, but a much stronger rod :) and then i'll use the FS wiesco 9:1 forged pistons, which will give me a compression ratio of about 8.3 - 8.5:1 so i can be happy with a bit of boost :)

UPDATE:

so due to the terrible unfortunate accident of a fellow member SWIFT JIMMY's SP20. I have picked up a hole lot of parts :) because I felt bad and wanted to give him all my cash so he could invest in a not pride and joy.

parts including.
. Mishimoto radiator
. Mishimoto shroud
. Mishimoto coolant reservoir
. Mishimoto power steering reservoir
. Fidenza 3.5KG Flywheel
. G-series gearbox
. Excedy HD clutch kit
. AWR 70 duro engine mounts
. SP20 dashboard ( like the hole thing)
. SP20 center console and all that jazz
. wholesale 20mm rear swaybar :)

I have just purchased some goods from Alex todd from the states :)
. Corksport S pipe
. Corksport J pipe
and something else that he has thrown in for me because he's a nice guy :)

I have bourght an entire sunroof off him aswell but he's working out the best way to ship it to me :) so that will be installed hopefully by the end of the year :)

I have also purchased a BJ1 sport20 front bar off rupe :) and a new mazdaspeed rear wing :)

my engine is getting pulled out in the next couple of weeks striped down and sorted out and then sent away for machining and balancing once I receive my new pistons and rods :)

my next adventure then will be to build the gearbox and try and make one fairly unbreakable as I plan to make a fair amount of power out of the old girl once she's all back together :)

so heaps to come in the very near future, so stay posted :)

Cheers
Andy

it's a subaru STI lip
Front lip is exactly 100mm off the ground, so its not too low but still i'm careful with driveways and all that jazz.

Rhys yer man i was doing 60kms and just as i was going past a fence a cat come flying out quicker then i could even react to think about the brake and just clean hit it. Sounded terrible i heard the stupid thing bounce under the car. I wasn't really well happy or anything in that manner, more pissed about me car. ( i hate cats )

Hey man,

Figured id post this here so the information is available for everyone.

The whole concept came about due to sustained rpm leading to premature engine wear and oil starvation issues with the rods. The stock oil pump just doesn't keep enough pressure/flow enough. The second problem is that the internal PRV causes cavitation in the pump which reduces the flow when the valve opens.

As such the DocB setup uses a swaintech coated pump to create tighter tolerances, thus increasing flow and then plugs up the PRV to stop the cavitation. A PRV is needed however as otherwise you get 100+ PSI at the filter which promptly blows the seal (as mat and myself have witnessed when the PRV failed to open).

The way it works is that you get a AN10 return welded into the MBSP for the oil return and use a oil filter relocation kit.

Stock Oil Filter Out -> Peterson PRV -> Oil Filter Adapter -> Back to Engine

The Bleed of oil from the PRV is sent back to the MBSP. Get mat to show you my setup when you come up :)

EDIT: When rebuilding engine man, make sure you rebuild using tight tolerances on the mains.

WOW 4 years since updateing this.
I thonk i remeber why to haha, i was going through the furst pange and editing adding and re organising my entire build list, and right when i went to click update the internet crashed and clean swiped the entire list, (i'd spent about 5 hours doing it up)

But man oh man has the car changed since the last update, its had about $40k+ spent on it, and as it looks much the same just changed wheels right now, there has been some BIG $$$ spent on her.

Not sure if i'mgoing to just keep on this build list, and try and re-do/update to date the build list up on the first page, or start a fresh one, and just do the car from an AS IS point and continue from there. We'll see,

Nice to hear the car is still with you.

You should at least update with some pictures like engine bay and with new wheels ;)
