hey guys, i just got a second hand panasonic tape player for my gf and i was wondering what these wires were for:
yellow(has a 10A fuse attached to it): most probably main power
blue: i have no idea
red: has a lil panasonic cylinder thingy attached to it , im thinking power to memory
black, im thinking ground.
i know the rest, they are all speaker wires.
can u guys, please help me out?
cheers

Yeah, my guess would be:
yellow - constant power
red - accessory/ignition power
blue - remote lead or power antenna
black - ground

usually blue is power antenna, blue and white is power amp...

if your stuck i'm sure that the panasonic website has downloadable user manuals

You are talking as if the blue and the blue/white wires are different, but they arent they both do exactly the same thing, they just send a small 12v current down the cable to tell something to turn on, ie amp or electric aerial, you can usually link up about 2 or 3 devices to one before you need to link up a relay system.

Sometimes the power antenna wire only generates a 12V signal when the radio is on, whereas the remote amp lead should generate 12V as soon as the HU is turned on regardless of whether the HU is set to radio or CD.

This is true, but havent seen that on any modern head units for a while. For new head units what i said is 99.9% true (i cant think of any exceptions).

also the outputs will sometimes differ... i don't know if this will differ, but some have stronger, or weaker outputs on one of those lines.... i think off my head my old sony made 5 mA on the amp, and like 500mA on the antenna.... but i don't really know :P
