Barry Sheene died today after a long struggle with cancer. *One of the legends of motor racing be it bike or car. *He was definitely one of the classics - telling it like it was.

Rest in peace Barry and our thoughts are with your family.

I loved the way he would put so much emotion into his commentary on the V8's and motorcycle racing. Won't be the same without him.

[i:post_uid0]Biography:

Barry Sheene has become a household name in Australia following his well known Shell Helix TV ads with Dick Johnson. Barry has a regular spot on Ten Motorsport as a commentator for the Shell Championship Series, 500cc motorbikes and co host of RPM.

Barry also has a distinguished career in motorbike racing, having been a double World 500cc Champion and winning more races than any other rider between 1972 and 1982.

Licensed to fly a helicopter, Barry's talents also extend to the theatre, where he appeared in the opera "Tosca" starring Maria Calla and Tito Gobbi for three seasons.

A favourite of motorsport fans throughout the world, Barry has recently returned to Classic motorbike racing with some success. [/i:post_uid0]

Heck of a nice guy too. met him a couple of times (a friend of mine is head scruiteneer at Sandown and high up in CAMS). Down to earth and VERY knowledgeable. Barry will be sorely missed in all aspects of the community, not just motorsport.[/color:post_uid0]
