Hey guys,

Thinking of getting some new wheels, I want a bit of a tougher look (I suppose you could call it stance, just not in the slammed and stretched sense) than I have with these cheap 17x7's, specifically looking into a 16x7 +40 Rota Grid with 225/45 rubber.

Is the stock SP20/SR2 wheel +45 offset?

Do you think these will fit? Car is lowered on Koni yellows and king springs.

I used this tool (http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp), calculating form the stock 195/50 16 (and assuming +45 offset) and it spat out the following:

Package is 10 mm (0.4'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars.
Package will stick out 20 mm (0.8'') farther. Make sure that you have enough room under the fender. If not, consider narrower tires or higher offset.
Will fill out the wheelwell by extra 3 mm. Almost no difference

What are your thoughts? On the wheel style? on bronze? on fitment?

Cheers for replies!

tyre is way too big for the car and rim.

The stock offset is 50 stock wheel size is 16x6 i just bought a set of 16x7 with a +40 offset with some 205/50/16 semi slicks it sits pretty good but u will need atleast a 30 offset for a flush fitment but if your upgrading wheels might aswell go bigger 17x7 +35 will sit perfect with a 205/40/17

I misread the Kumho size chart, 225's are apparently for 7.5" wide wheels?

They make the KU31 in 205/45 as well as 195 so tyres should be sweet, calculator still says the wheel will sit another half inch out due to the offset, is that getting into guard rolling territory?

Project R, in which way would the 225 be too big? fitting on the car with no problem or fitting on the rim safely (and under hard cornering)? you also forgot to tell me what you think it would look like, for better or worse :p

both...

rolling diameter on a 225/45R17 is 634mm, that 33mm larger. one it is illegal, but it is 17mm that you tyre will come closer to your plastics, raise your car 17mm off the ground. and if you want my opinion on 'for better or worse,' then it will look more like a 4wd.

225 tyre width is also too wide for a 7 inch wide wheel. 225 should be put on a 8-9 inch wide rim. yes i know tyre manufacturers will give you a 2 inch varience for what the tyre will fit on, but say it says 6"-8", then 6.5"-7.5" would be optimum wheel width. and if you want my opinion on 'for better or worse,' then it will look like pox. tyre wall will bludge outwards near the shoulder of the tyre, and will look like you have flat tyres all the time.

on a SP20, a 215/40R17 would be the way to go on a 17x7.0/7.5 rim. and yes KU31s come in this size cheap. last i saw on ebay, they were $110ea a few weeks back.
