after a year of talking about it. finally started work on some handling gear for the stina.

todays mission involved a hunk of billet (purchased 12 months ago), a hacksaw and a 20 tonne press.
the result.
http://www.webvisions.com.au/000_0174.jpg

next stage will involve a milling machine, lathe and lots of polish!

it weighs 2 kilos and is about 3 times chunkier than a whiteline one. Dunno if its nessacary but meh. may as well find out!

hey mike i might be a bit silly here but shouldn't you have done the machining before you bent it . bit hard to put sumthing like that in the lathe an machine it

pr1mo
14-04-2004, 06:02 PM
nah its staying relativley square. the ends will be tapered down with a milling machine and the lathe will be used to turn up the bolts which will screw into it!

Let me know how you go with making the end plates. I want to make some new
ones as my brace is a BG one I got it way before anyone made one for the BA
the brace doesn't sit enough far forward and can foul against the bonnet if not
carefull.

Best of luck with it

Well done Mike.. The engine cover looks better than i thought it would. Very very crisp white indeed!

AP

pr1mo
16-05-2004, 06:24 PM
yeah its a smooth gloss so grease and crap just wipes strait off. the brace came up good too. gave it a good work out round my local industrial area today :)

actually heres a funny story. after i took 1 photo i had a look at it on the computer and though 'oh **** my strut towers are all bent!!!' but after a quick drive down to mazda and a crosscheck on a stocker sitting there it was found to not be the case :)

cheers mike

pr1mo
16-05-2004, 06:29 PM
yup, absolutely stunning!
i want!

well all up it cost me $20 for the rocker and $5 each for the strut ends.

that probarbly works out to 4GBP :P

no real prep work required on the cover either...if there was they did that too

cheers mike

pr1mo
16-05-2004, 08:17 PM
oh and i gotta thank Mr Mazda (local workshop) too for letting me borrow the rare assed size tap that whiteline use in the end of their alloy bars.....saved me $100 :)

very nice!!, much impressivness yes?!!how about one for the rest of us now!! :p

slightly o/t....

i installed my remote start lead to the tacho, works fine, with no grinding restarts!!

pr1mo
17-05-2004, 01:57 PM
hmm ok..i have no idea how it works. might just disconnect it cuz it looks crap and i never use it :P

oh another thing i wanna do is move the lock that happens when u push the brake to a button in the cabin....can this be done??

cheers mike

pr1mo
17-05-2004, 02:20 PM
how about one for the rest of us now!! :p

i can make up strut bars for anyone interested. just a matter of ordering ends from whiteline. scotty down my way has a brace in the BJ which i can copy :)

cheers mike

platypus
17-05-2004, 03:13 PM
yes you can do that, or just disconnect it and it won't do anything... i left it on, coz of the way my locks are setup... the wire should be near the switch on your brake pedal... it needs a positive switching

and i was joking about the strut bar, but am v. interested... only hassle is i drive a 1.6.. this requires the strut bar to be higher than the 1.8 and 2.0 due to the higher placemtn of the intake manifold

pr1mo
17-05-2004, 03:24 PM
hmmm scotty has the 1.8 SII astina. can you get ends for the 1.6 from whiteline??? Has anyone got an aftermarket one for the 1.6?? all i need is something to copy and it can all be done :)

cheers mike

platypus
17-05-2004, 03:48 PM
the ends are the same, its the clearance which is the issue... the 1.8 goes almost straight across, the 1.6 has to go up in much the same way yours does

pr1mo
17-05-2004, 03:53 PM
hmm ok....does critter have a pic of his engine bay? id be interested to see how one looks on a SP20 :)

100 bucks doesnt sound too bad.

platypus
30-05-2004, 01:12 PM
not bad at all!! i wonder if he can do wheels

pr1mo
30-05-2004, 04:56 PM
ummm yeah depending on the wheels. i know he redid his white HR racing wheels in white but when u go from a diffrent color paint all the powdercoat has to be stripped. it took me 5 hours to strip those strutbrace ends with paint stripper so thatll give u an idea of how much work is involved. if u get em sandblasted in the first instance then they may require metal polishing which is also an expensive process (ala. $90 per rim!!) best to get incontact with shaq and go from there. hes a mate from primary school and have been getting BMX and lowrider frames done by him since i was 15 :)

cheers mike

pr1mo
31-05-2004, 08:54 AM
ok i had a chat to shaq. he may have a BG rocker cover for exchange so your car wont be off the road at all. simply pick your color, recieve the new one, install it. and hand in your old one. $100

reply via the silvia forum if anyone is interested

cheers mike

platypus
31-05-2004, 02:06 PM
how long would he need any items for?

pr1mo
31-05-2004, 03:10 PM
2-3 days depending on prep work etc
