sorry for the late notice - i totally forgot to post here.

Anyway, Mercury Motorsports (www.mercurymotorsport.com.au) is having their pre-opening dyno weekend.

I'm going to be running my car (not sure when yet) and the cost is $45

let me know if anyone else is interested and i'll see if i can get a few spots together on either the saturday or sunday. hopefully it wont be too much of a drama as i know the owners of the business socially.

so let me know. the sooner the better! (email me at katsuro@tpg.com.au )

323_mazdabator
13-08-2004, 05:37 PM
to easy your car shouldn't be to hard to spot.... do you reckon i'll be able to do a run on the dyno? my car is stock except for an exhaust at the moment, does any one know what time a stock Bg astina sp should run on the 1/4?

twilightprotege
13-08-2004, 07:51 PM
yeah will be no problem - i told trent (@ mercury) that there will be a few cars running. i half know trent so it'll be no problem.

in terms of power - expect to get around the high 90 wheel hp. 70-75 kw at the wheels.

in terms of 1/4 mile - mid to low 16s?

would you like to come out to willowbank when next a few ppl go?

323_mazdabator
13-08-2004, 08:48 PM
yeh i was thinking around that power...i went out to willowbank wednesday night and my best time was 17.440. that was on my 17's. do you think i would be beter off running on my stockos?

twilightprotege
13-08-2004, 08:57 PM
for sure. 17's mean more rotational mass which = less wheel hp.

also, are you auto or manual?

might be organising a bit of a group drag racing soon if you're interested???

Nate
13-08-2004, 10:21 PM

yeh i wasn't to happy with the dyno result but i was. i expected more but i guess that when a car is gettin old its not the same as new. what is a BG astina sp worth these days?i only paid $3500 is that good? twilightprotege i think you were there when i first got ther what is your number plate? yeh a cruise would be goo...i was thinking of going down the coast on saturday night??? if any one interested

twilightprotege
16-08-2004, 06:05 PM
if you were there on sunday it wouldnt have been me - it was probably kurt (snert) - dark blue sedan with number plate 20MSP

67kw is around 90kw at the engine give or take - what's the stock SP put out?

fyi - my number plate is OSP200

for others interested, results have been posted on the mercury motorsport website

Nate
17-08-2004, 07:00 AM
i only paid $3500 is that good?

Thats awesome!!! i spent three months finding mine and i thought it was cheap at $6000 ... and its insursed for $8650 ... but condition is always a factor and mods dont really add much to the value. if you wanted to well it now privately you shouldnt have to many troubles getting $6k-$7k

and as for your power result ... i ran a 60 kws in canberra against andys 82 ... andy rana 93 on this dyno which means i should be around 70kw ... which i spose you could put down to my exhaust and pod! either way its stilla quick car on the road!! anyway the electrician is about to cut the power so cya's

fruitbat38
17-08-2004, 10:21 AM
I got mine for $6300, it was a 93 SP with 196k :( on the clock. Best thing was it took less than a week to find and it was located in the next suburb from where I lived.

RAC insurance insured it for $10500 and said if I wanted to I could get it insured for $13000 no problems... in fact they kept asking me if I wanted to insure it for that. Guess they want lots of patched up cars running around on the roads (no write offs) :D

twilightprotege
17-08-2004, 10:26 AM
off topic but, since i have an insurance background, insuring the car for more than it's worth is not worthwhile. you have to prove the car is worth the amount you have insured it for (stolen cars only), but if the car is in an accident they will easily be able to work out what the car is really worth - more than likely the amount you paid for it or less.

all insurance companies are trying to do with insuring your car for more is to get more premium out of you.

back on topic - i want more power

platypus
17-08-2004, 11:33 AM
yeah but its an insurance risk thing

if they put you as a write off, they stand to lose you as a customer

if an insurance company repairs a car, they have your excess, as well as your premium, and will have your renewal next year if they treat you well (which QBE didn't - so they can go blow goats)

there is a certain point where an insurance company says its a financial write off... if you insure a $500 sigma for $500 you won't get any repairs done ever, as you will quite easily be able to do that much damage or more... - there fore its a write off

if you insured that sigma for 1 million dollars you would always be getting repairs, as they are cheaper than the 1 million dollar value for writing the car off...

so dyno huh?? andy fix your car

twilightprotege
17-08-2004, 11:49 AM

twilightprotege
