Let's say we wanna do an engine swap.. what engines are we limited to?
Can they be anything other than the BP-T import engine?

You could use the B6 turbo from a Ford Capri of BP turbo from a TX3. It realy depends on where you want to go. If you were game you could try an FE DOHC with a turbo and Mx-6 transaxle it would be a totaly custom fit and you would be a pioneer.
I believe that with a little planing you could turbo your current engine, you may be limited to about 9-12 pounds that is a good power upgrade depending on your overall goal.

Just as easy to get them interstate and sent to you. www.sssautomotive.com.au , www.jaustech.com.au , www.justjap.com.au , www.adelaidejap.com.au the list does go on. Pick up a copy of High Performance Imports, that magazine is loaded with advertising for half cuts, or do a search for half cuts Mazda.

Allmaz in clayton, or Maz motor wreckers have a couple of BPD engines in stock (but arent cheap of course...

i'd be inclined to go KL-ZE (2.5 japsepc) and go NA screamer :)

Stop me if I am wrong but I thought the KL-ZE was an Mx-6 Engine?
thus Rear wheel drive
therfore a bastard of a job to spin it 90deg to fit in into a FWD astina?

I was looking into this but spining an engine sounded quite expensive.

I was originally told it bolts straight on, seemed to good to be true sounded like I could increase K/w power in my 96 V6 Hardtop by 50% for $3K, ($2.5K engine, say $500 for my mate to install if it bolts straight in)

Mx-6 are FWD,
The KL-ZE is the J-spec Mx-6 engine. Higher compression, different cams and 150KW.
Only trick is that the inlet manifold on the Mx is taller you need to use the Astina manifold, distributer, ECU and wiring and get a mechanic to tune it on his dyno. It's a very easy mod with fantastic returns, problem is that the V6 are few so not many have done it.

Do you know anyone who has done it?

I could be mistaken but isn't he putting a KL-ZE into an Aus Spec MX-6, and KLO3 or a (KL?-)DE into his Astina.

I could be totallly confused as he is using parts from 3 engines as I count it,

From memory the KLZE was originally bought and put in the Mx-6 and then into the smaller, lighter Astina. Anyway as a guide all the info is there.
