ok ... not that i know what it does or how to install it ... but if i can install a cam and not **** the engine over then i can work this one out!

yeah i'm just not sure about the electrical part of it all. i'm sure i can work it out.

basically what it does is allows me to adjust the point at which the VICS butterflys open. VICS is a system where it increases the intake manifold runner volume which gives the same effect of having shorter runners. shorter runners = high rpm power.

because i've done a lot to my engine i'm sure the point where it should open has changed, so that's why i want to get this to adjust the opening point.

i'll get it, install it, then do 3 dyno runs. 1 with it fully closed, 1 with it full open. then i'll be able to work out from the graph where the cross over point is and that's where i'll have the VICS open (well about 200rpm earlier anyway). then i'll do a 3rd run to get a new power graph :D yay!

apparently the controler is similar to a turbo timer. so i guess nate since you have a turbo timer (man that's funny) you can help :D

How is the VICS butterfly normally opened? I'd imagine you'd want it to open during WOT or close to WOT. Not at a certain RPM, what happens when accelerating slowly or if engine braking?

have you noticed how the sound of your engine changes around 5500rpm? that's when the butterflys open.

what happens is in the ecu it has a pre-determined mark when to allow the vics to open up. it then uses a spring to open it up, but if there is vacuum in the intake manifold (ie high rpm and throttle not fully open), the vacuum will keep it closed.

this is only a high rpm thing

ahh ... ok ... so its similar to toyotas TVIS??? (something funky that opens the manifold all the way ... thats how he explained it anyway) ... i know it kicks in at 4000 rpm + which means incredible in gear response on the hwy .... anyway yeah shoudnt be to hard to work out!

yeah similar to the toyota thingie.

apparently they use the same idea in the new ford falcon inline 6 too.

and yep, electric and vac controled.

if the point where the VICS flys open isnt perfect for my mods (and anyone else's mods if they use this and i can get it to work) then it'll prob be good for a few kw mid range around where the VICS starts to work.

dont forget that this wont change low end power and wont give top end power either.

Vacuum operates the VICS but it's controlled by a solenoid driven by the ECU (or VICS controller).

low rpm = vacuum
high rpm = no vacuum

so with the butterflys are close, there is vaccum.
