Hey everyone. New here but wanted to say my daughter just got her first car. A stock standard 1990 323 Astina hatch (dark blue, the only one I have seen). The paint seems original. I have seen that colour in the later model but not the BG ? any coment
It has some nice alloys on it but otherwise stock. We looked at the SP's but didn't like the electrics, the sunroof or the seats.
I spent yesterday fixing the air con (regas), added a 2 inch extension, new sony 6inch and 4inch speakers, new pedals, fixed some holes in the foam armrest (expanable foam used), resealed front windscreen.
If you see it around the Northern Beaches, wave - she is very proud of it.
Next job is to add a sub and fix some missing trim (anyone know of any loal wreckers with BG parts ?).
The clutch operates very close to the floor - is this usual ?
Not planning any major engine mods but may add some skirts.
Cheers
ps - great forum, have learnt a lot... [/img]

Hey Wazza,

Hey if you need another daughter, I might just have a car you can buy me
Get her to log on to the website and say hello!
Great to see people still appreciate the Astina's.
Nate has a BG too, from up QLD way, but we don't hold his location against him

welcome !
your daughter sounds very lucky :)
very glad to have you - if you feel like a drive you're welcome to come to any of the melbourne cruises  or turn up to your next local meet.
be careful with skirts tho - you dont want sunburn knees

Melbourne might be a bit of a trip as we live in Sydney.
Not sure the car is up to a meet - it's pretty stock and my cash was pretty much blown on the car so not much chance of any more changes. I think we wold get laughed at.
My daughter's happy just to have a car. Must admit it is a lot nice than my first car (1952 Morris Minor).
You are right about sunburnt knees with the skirt on - but great in this hot weather (40 her at the moment).
Cheers
Welcome Wazza!
Don't worry about stock-ness of the car. Meets are just as much about saying hi to people as they are about showing off the car (if not more). The only mods my car has had is an induction system and filter - oh, and the mandatory sticker of course
I'm sure you'll pick up many hints and tips trawling through the posts, many of which can be done for very little $$$
There's also plenty of people ready to help if you have any questions about the inner workings of the Astina.
Catch ya round!

Welcome to you and your daughter, Wazza :)
as Andy said - it's not about the cars - everybody has to start somewhere!
and i bet the bit of trim you're mising is the around the drivers side window - it seems that breaks on all BGs
enjoy your stay!
cheers
Dan

Never seen the colour of my daughters. Most seem to be red, white, light blue or green. Very unusual
I'm open to suggestions on cheap mods. I dont want my daughter to end up with a "riced up car" but it is fun doing some cosmetic stuff.
This is an awesome site
Thanks

what trims are you missing mate? you might be able to get them posted from melbourne. I know a lot of mazda wreckers around here(without them, i`d have been broke buying stuff at mazda dealer).

Can you give me any contact points for wreckers ? I'll call them. Have asked up here and not easy to find.
Need top cap for plastic trim running down front LHS windscreen
Need 6 speed fasteners for rear hatch cargo area (that hold on the plastic cover)
RHS front door panel (grey trim below, light grey above)
Din shelf to replace stock radio
RHS cargo shelf hinge/catch
Try the SydneyPinkPages (http://www.sydneypinkpages.com.au/index.asp) type in Motor Wreckers in the type of business and you might be able to find something around your way. Just stumbled across the site.
CapitalFranksPartsPlus (http://www.capitalfrankspartsplus.com.au/) look to have a BG wrecking but no mention of any interior but they might have something not listed. If you find something here in Canberra I might be able to drop it off to you on my way to QLD for New Years if you like.

Thanks for the link. I have a sister in Canberra so I'm down there a lot. I'll give them a call.
I have a couple of searches across the yards for the bits I need but they are hard to get.

Hey,
Nice to see another astina lover. As for mazda wreckers in Sydney i have yet to find one aswell. where abouts on the northern beaches are you? i may have seen her driving her car around. Will keep an eye out for some wreckers and let you know if i find one for you. And go for a cruise and meet some people. I haven't been on one myself yet but if she ends up going on one and wants another P plater to cruise with just give me a buzz as it would be good to have someone else driving at 90km.

okay, the speed fastners, you can get them from mazda for very cheap, thats where I bought mine from. The rear shelf cost $350 at mazda, and I bought a good one from the wreckers for $80. The pillar will cost you about $180 new, but only $75-$90 at wreckers(depending on condition).
