Hey Guys,
Just wanted to know if anybody has had any luck
adjusting their lights up after lowering the car. There are
some knobs at the back but I didn't find they had much if
any of an affect. My lights whilst nice and bright only look
50m ahead which is not far enough when driving along at decent speeds.

I've got that problem too Mal.. i adjusted my light up and i can see better now. When looking at theos, the part where you adjust the lights are totally different from behind compared to mine.. how does the back of your headlight look Mal?

I have 2 knobs and some flexible rods that you can turn
but I cannot see the bulbs moving position. I have adjusted
headlights before so should at least be able to see the
high beams move as its just the bulb.
Has had me screwed for years but after reading the post
about different bulbs I thought I would throw it open. The
bottom as you know clicks in with the bolts on top so you
cant use washers to prop up the bottom to raise it.

Sorry that should read 2 knobs on flexible rods. Thats 2 per
side so do they only adjust maybe the low beam, 1 up/down
1 left/right. Do you have to push them in to make them
connect almost like a screwdriver type connection. I don't
know I just drive around knowing that 50m is less than a
second to be terrified before you hit something. Its not like
jumping out of a plane and having 5 mins to realise you forgot
your chute and who to call before you die :p

just found a pic of your engine bay.. your lights are the same as mine.. the top screw is left and right *i think* and between the guard and the light is a screw. that makes the light go up and down.. hope this helps Mal :)

Do you have to push them in to make them work as
mine just freespin ?? or seem to.

The one that freespins is near the high beam light. You dont need to use that one to adjust the light.

The other ones dont freespin.

hey guys,

This is my first post =).

I drive a 1.6m 323 astina, and i'm interested in replacing my stock headlamps with some halogen lamps. The problem is, i heard from a local mechanic that to make that replacement, i need to replace the entire headlight swiveling box thingy that contains the bulb. This sounds kinda absurd to me, can't i just change the bulb? But i've read the car's manual and they showed some steps on how to replace u'r headlamps by unscrewin and openin the swivelling thing (no parts replaced other than the bulb). Its a little blurry to me now...

Does anyone have information or links to sites regarding this topic?

Thanks...[/color:post_uid1]

I wasn't aware the headlights on the earlier cars were
sealed beams but if they are you cant simply put a
halogen bulb in there as there is no provision for it. The
whole glass bit is the bulb so when they go you have to
buy a new large bulb. My old HQ's had them. To use
halogen bulbs you need to buy a headlight that will take
them which is what your mechanic was saying. You cant
get around it. Is yours a 89-93 Astina. Not sure if the
SP's had hologens or not you may be able to get some
from a wreckers fairly cheap.

Hope this helps a little

Sorry to bring up an old thread. I was trying to adjust my headlights, and tried those screws but it didn't seem to have any effect at all.

There are two screws behind the low beam ? Ones pretty obvious, the others more hidden away. Those are the ones i should be turning?

I'm glad I wan't the only one that has had this problem (although I didn't want to admit it) - ended up taking them to a mechanic

Check out http://www.geocities.com/lantishatch under the removal of bar and lights page there is a pic which shows the different screws and what they are ment to do.

Hope this helps

On the hardtop this is easy, you just need to remove the park light and shove a screwdriver in the gap and turn :D Now I can see at night!

Hey.. bringing up an old old topic here.. Just on the weekend I installed some Philips "Blue Vision" globes, both H3 [low beam] and H1 [high beams].. Found they needed some adjustment and couldn't figure out the whole thing [forgot about this thread] so I went to Mazda and asked if they could show me how to adjust them.. Got the guy to photocopy the book as you can see.

High beams are excellent.. just gotta adjust low beams so I can see!
