As the caped crusader asked a while where every1 lived. I was wondering what every1 drives?

BJ1 will now be Astina
BJ2 will now be Protege

Cheers

boostedbatman

I could be a pan in the backside and ask about the separation between the 4 and 6 cylinder BAs not to mention the Type R or in a while the new addition to the BA brigade (soon to be terrorising Brisbane) the The BA 25R Hardtop :p

CRA23
19-02-2005, 11:12 AM
i fu really wanna go further u can have shades or non shades :) or u can do the BA before and after mid 96(before 96 is better :) )

well its not as bad as the commos that hae a new model every 1 1/2 years and in that time there is series 1 and 2

Nate
20-02-2005, 12:19 PM
commo run a body shape for 5 years with two series of the same model in the first 3 years then two years of the facelift with two series.... get ti right :P

What was the model of that gay looking 323 Sedan from the late 90s that didn't sell so well? Was based on the Laser from memory, and that guy down in Tassie has one too.

Sad story here.... They are all based on the laser (or visa versa)

Ford USA owns a 20% share of Mazda Japan, all astinas are built as madzas, ford models are built and designed my mazda crew, so are just variants of astinas, so really all ford lasers are really mazdas. Just look at the SP20/SR20 version, ford didn't even bother to cant the interior. The normal changes are bonnet, guards, front bumper, headlights, hatch/boot, rear bumper, taillights and steering wheel.

My ex had a 2000 laser, so no altezza/chrone taillights are available, so we change the hatch, rear bumper and taillights. Done, didn't need any mods to panels at all.

ford gave mazda a bail out a long time ago - this is how it has happened ..

on the whole ford has tried to keep their noses out of the mazda design etc... and then make their own touchesunfotunently some of these arn't so well thoguht out - like on the sr20... hey this car has tow points, lets cover them with a body kit that would mean the owner has to remove the kitting if they should require a tow

but the RS20 was a hot little design, and having seen it i'd prefer that over a sp20 anyday...

anyway what car do you own?

Hi All,

I'm new here as well, from the mazfours/fl.com forums - I've got a 1988 BF 323 GT Turbo (Factory)

Info:
b6t motor (stock 100kw Turbo 1.6l DOHC) with upgraded valves and springs
g-type gearbox
2.5in race exhaust (mandrel bent, magnaflo cat, straight through)
k+n panel filter

Everything else is stock.

http://foobie.gallery.netspace.net.au/323-Gt-Photos <- Pics of my car

It's not much, but it GOES! (Not as fast as quicksilver's car though, Lol!)

I was at the Mercury motorsport dyno day not too long ago, but did not run my car due to boost cut issues I am having.

that is rediculasy fast 4 a gemini. in years to come i would want to get a gemini and fully restore it and put a ca20det engine conversion in it. that would be my dream car at the moment.

marcs_sp20
17-01-2006, 07:42 PM
have a look at www.ozgemini.com

if ure doin a full engine conversion in a gem, u might as well go sr20det, heaps cheaper and a lot less drama's. I still love my gems, ill prolly look at getting another in a years time or so and go nuts again on it...

Sportivo is the least modified out of all my cars. One of the Honda civics has had about $18k poured into it with some major engine mods, suspension, body and wheels. The Kombi is prolly the most fun to drive as it is the "big " surprise package that will do 200km/hr and has scared nearly every person who has sat in the passenger seat :D By the way it's only 130mm off the ground at the lowest point so it does go round corners very well. Currently undergoing more engine mods and can't wait to get the big brake conversion under it for a trip over Nebo....

and when do the trip over Nebo have some cold drinks for me on the other side as you get a serious sweat throwing the "block of flats" around

Bourne Boy... your Honda Civic rally car. Who did you buy it off? Or did you build it yourself? Reason I ask is that my family(father, brother and myself) have helped build a few Civic's for rally especially when it comes to the power dept. Ferris Lee and Adrian Bukmanis are 2 of the cars that we have done engines for(Adrian's car now sold) and Ferris Lee's Civic has currently got 98hp at the wheels from the original 1200cc motor. There's nothing we don't know about them so if you need some tech info drop me a line :)

The civic is sold and gone to Mark Modejegon... and name you should know... and i bought it off a bloke down south, but the car was originally built by Arthur Jackson...

Do you know Tim Collingwood, i beleive he helped build Bucky's car aswell, and during the time i had the civic, he maintained and worked on it for me...

And don't try and tell me ferris' car still has the original 1200cc crank! :p

SILVABULLIT
18-02-2006, 10:01 PM
Not now :) It's got a 1500 crank in it and from memory(he's just done an engine overhaul so not sure of exact specs) it's capacity is now about 1440cc or something like that. But man it's a quick bit of gear with the close ratio box and lsd!!!!

My old mate Mark the collector!!!! Actually have to go and see him in the next week or so to pick up a rear hatch for one of my cars. :) See you around :)

Astro Boy

1500cc :p so the rumors were tru!!!

Except that now he's given up gravel rallying! oh, well, at least i got to buy all his new yokohama rally tyres cheap! ;)

and yes, mark is a nut... he's putting in all the good bits from his civic rally cars (ie, the proflex etc.), into the car he bought off me cause it had a VERY well prepared shell, especially now that he has his own full time rally mechanic! ;)

project.r.racing

Ryan

Astro Boy
18-02-2006, 10:49 PM
1. you can't use rally tyres on autocross or khanacross events at willowbank... if you want to run rally tyres in a club level event, you've got to head to murgon, and in which case, you'll need a proper rally car...

2. if you're doing those kind of events, you want race compound retreads, basically, racing compounds, but with a more open tread pattern for the dirt than race tyres traditionally come with... $80 to $100 new, but myself and nate have 4 spare brand new 14" ones that we would happely sell to cover this weekends rally sprint entry fee... $300 the lot...

3. if you do want proper second hand rally tyres you'd be looking more at the $50 per tyre mark... any more and you're getting ripped off, but be aware, they will be very second hand...

Feeling fine! :p

I mate of mine, who did the dealer ride day at QR, with both the MPS3 and MPS6 back to back around QR had no problem in saying the MPS3 is the best handing car he's ever driven...

Now he is the biggest RWD convert you'll meet, and hates FWDs in general, so for him to say that carries some weight... He's been rallying an old corolla for 15 years now, is an advanced driving instructor, and shares the driving duties in ute 4 of the holden stormriders precision driving team! So he aint no street racer, and he's one of the few people who's opinion i regard highly without any hesitation... and those were his words! ;)

Hmmm, interesting. I'll have to fang against one someday in the legal twisties where he can't use that 180kW+ to his advantage then. ;) :D

Still, you could've knocked me over with a feather after reading that. Considering I would've considered the Focus XR5T to be in a league above the MPS3.

Motorkhana? If you got some will to compete?I tried the turbo out a little bit last night, and it needs the suspension done before it's ready for that (it's so soft the mudflaps were dragging on the ground!). I still haven't decided on Racing Logic with 4/3kg springs or a good set of springs/dampers. Then on the other hand the SPOS18 has the suspension for it, but an unbalanced flywheel still, can hopefully get that resolved in the next couple of weeks. :)

Stop making excuses - heaps of stock cars compete at club level stuff.

Wouldn't be Rod Browning by any chance??

As for the MPS 3 being the best front wheel drive handling car I'd have to disagree somewhat. After owning 6 front wheels drives of various makes(Honda/Toyota etc) I would have to say that my money is on a DC2 type R. MPS3 feels heavy and at times a little awkward compared to the nimble and sharp feel of a DC2 Type R.

Must admist the DSC works well on the MPS but on unven road surfaces on a mountain it just doesn't allow you to get a feel for the car cause it simply won't allow it.

Would love to see them all in a motorkhana. Might have to bring out the ol' civic to show a few of the more fancied rivals up....

Stop making excuses - heaps of stock cars compete at club level stuff.I'm not concerned about excuses or being stock. But I am concerned that 1 car has the wobbles and that the other car drags on the ground so much.

Anyhow, I think I fuxored my wastegate tonight. :( It got jammed open this afternoon in the mountains causing all my boost to go straight out the exhaust in a big whoosh! And then later driving home it slammed shut quite loudly with the thunder! But atleast I got my boost back, however I don't know if it's still bleeding off boost spikes, so a mate is gonna check it tomorrow...

Oh well, easy come...

Hmmmmm...... I think I may have been misquoted.

However, in the context of the car itself and the direct competition, I think it's very hard to go past. It was certainly the quickest car there. I had the opportunity of driving it around town a bit before Willowbank, and it was fairly handy around town. Off boost it's very usable, probably due to the high CR off boost, and on the track, where cars usually magnify any inherent ugliness, it was surprisingly capable. Best handling car I've driven? No. It is a tight thing with no real bad habits. The DSC is capable of making an ordinary driver look good, and a good one bullit proof. Turn the DSC off and you want to be pretty sure of what you're up to. Best overall package I've driven in a long time (considering the 40K price tag)? I'll have a red one thanks.

Focus XR5? Can't honestly say that I've driven that particular car, however I have driven most of the various Focus's (Focum, Focii?). I love the look of them, and then I drive one and I remember why I dislike them so much. The only less inspiring thing I've driven in recent time would be the Nissan Tiida, which is completely lacking in any sort of personality. Bland, no driver dynamics, Toyota levels of grayness........ zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz................

Oh, sorry, did I nod off again? The Ford's and Nissan's do that to me.

Given the choice, I'd probably have an MX5. But, like a lot of other people, I have a resident munchkin that also has to be taken into account. Damn hard to fit a baby seat in the back of those 5 thingies. Given 40 large to play with, you can't go past an MPS3.

And that coming from someone who believes that side windows should have optional windsceen wipers.

Wouldn't be Rod Browning by any chance??

No, I'm not. Nor am I in the same league as that gentleman. :)

Google.com. Amazing resource that. :) I was Googling "stormriders" due to the recent goings on with the team to see what has ( or hasn't) made it into the press and this turned up 3 pages in.

Happy to give the 3's a good rap. Even to the point of there may be one turning up at the Chateau d'Dwarf if I can get the thoughts of Golfs out of Mrs Dwarf's head.
