hey all it looks like GT4 will be able to race 6 at a time which is cool via some software called xlink Kai which youll need to install on your computer.

Heres a checklist of what youll need

1. a slimline PS2 OR an origional PS2 with a PS2 ethernet adapter (roughly $60)

2. a PC

3. highspeed internet prefrebly at 512/128 or higher.

4. xlink kai software. downloadable from their website. www.teamxlink.co.uk

5. your PC and PS2 networked

a setup guide on how to get this working can be found here

http://s7.invisionfree.com/Team_Drift_Pigs/index.php?showtopic=315

any dramas please let me know as im sure i can help you recify them!

PS anyone with a 512 upload speed WE NEED YOU this person will be ideal to host games with upto 6 astinaGT cars :)

if you dont have a new slim sony PS2 youll need an ethernet adapter which comes with another online play game which is really cool. i got my adapter when i bought syphon filter however i think they sell for around the $60 mark. you may even be able to source one secondhand. make sure it comes with the sony central startup disc though! youll need it

I don't know what to think Re: Online play.

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=%22gran+turismo+4%22+online&btnG=Search&meta=
The above search seems to indicate that it won't support online play (and most of what I've read elsewhere indicate it won't). EBgames.com, however, list and "online adaptor" required for online play etc. etc.

It has LAN support and as such I guess it could be hooked up to a home LAN/ADSL network and routed externally to the internet, but I'm not sure how you'll go about finding opponents.

Either way, I'll pick up my (pre-ordered) copy first thing on Thursday the 10th, so I guess we'll find out for sure then...

where do we get an ethernet card for the ps2?

Hey mate i've got a spare ethernet card for the PS2, got it from the trials that they held for the network, i don't need mine anymore seeing as i just recently bought a slimline PS2 which has a built in ethernet port, so on the next meet i'll bring the ethernet card, network wire, and CD, if you like, $25 for the lot.

ok dudes. we can play online via xlink kai. this is free. the only catch is that you need to have your PS2 and PC networked for this to work. if annnyone has a 512k upload please let me know as you will be an ideal host for any games with multiple cars in attendance! if anyone wants to play me 1 on 1 for now just get me on your MSN

osprey looks like he has things fairly worked out so far. how bout everyone else??

james,
take a look at some of the guides in the first post. this should help you a little :) basicly xlink 'tricks' your PS2 into thinking its playing in LAN mode when infact your playing someone over the internet!

im with telstra ... i have the PS2 plugged straight into the the router at the moment cause there was a spare spot :)

pr1mo
17-03-2005, 03:43 PM
thats as sweet as man.

this shouldnt apply to you however for anyone connecting their PS2 directly into their PC you will need tofdo this one.

Start menu -> settinggs -> Network Connections -> Telstra

window should pop up. then goto Properties -> Advanced

make sure Computer Internet sharing is enabled!

oh and if your going direct from the PS2 into the PC a normal ethernet cable wont do : ( you need whats called a crossover cable which you can get for $5 from any computer store :)

theres a good start :)

I still haven't gotten my copy of GT4 yet, but i'm got my PS2 running on a router too, so it should be no problems, and i've got optusnet cable, so will that slow the connections down.

pr1mo
17-03-2005, 04:03 PM
nah man im on optus cable too it works sweet however youd want to join a game not host them with our upload speeds. kthl looks like being the best person to host games at this stage. check the thread in the australian community section for some info about a get together online tonite for all interested

Sorry everyone, I'm still having problems with configuration. My network was not reachable in XLink Kai, so I used port 30000 as suggested at XLink's website and port forward that to my computer that's running XLink. However, XLink Kai still says my network is not reachable. Everything else it fine, it detects my PS2 and says it configured successfully.

I don't know know whether I'll be able to resolve this problem any time soon, so you guys / girls will have to find someone else to host games.

do you have any firewalls?

kthl
18-03-2005, 12:53 PM
My computer is running windows firewall and my router will have an in-built firewall.

pr1mo
18-03-2005, 01:00 PM
