Need your help ppls.
Im currently with Swiftdsl....well...People Telecom
Just saw the new plans they introducted and they SUCK major a$$
Ive been with them for more than 1 year and thought ill give them a chance to offer some new competitve plans before i churned to another ISP.
so can anyone recommend any good ones?
TPG is out of the question.
Looking at either IINET or Exetel.
Thanks guys!!!!

Exetel is actually run by some ex-Swiftel people. I'm with Swiftel ATM, and don't plan on changing ISP's, just upping my speed from 256k.
Both those ISP's have a reasonably good reputation. Have you checked the forums on Whirpool?

Yeh, Ive been browsing here and there on Whirlpool for the past 6 months...Been close in joining up with Exetel but the idea of new swiftdsl plans came up and thought i mite stick around and see how they would be!!!

why no TPG?
1.5mbps is appealing to me at a good price too

I'm with Swift also and will be churning by the end of the month. I'm looking at either Exetel or iiNet but am leaning towards Exetel as my parents are with them and have had no problems.
MrShadow: If you change speeds be aware that you'll end up locked in for a minimum of 12 months and that ain't cool

what about infinite?
I'm with TPG 1.5 and very happy so far.

After Infinite I'd recommend Westnet (http://www.westnet.com.au) I've been using them with many clients and never had a problem that wasn't fixed very quickly (i.e. I've never waiting on the phone for more than 5 mins when calling tech support)

i would be on that... but alas for there is no connection available in my streeet

Infinite is not your average ADSL :D
Check out some of our customers responses...
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=293885
Unfortunately we are not the cheapest but our network is uber stable and we offer awesome tech support, from windows to linux to mac...
I will do free churns for any AstinaGT users :) also which is normally $55

No matter what else you say, the fact that Infinite support linux and mac should be enough for anyone! Almost no one else does it.. (I sorta like it that way cause clients have to ring me then) But anyways on with the show.

Infinite is not your average ADSL :D
I knew that - thought you'd appreciate the plug :p
BigBoyLemonade
02-03-2005, 01:16 PM
I always appreciate any free plugs, running a small business aint easy but unlike other ISPs I ain't in it for a quick buck but to offer quality service, as we grow larger we receive bigger discounts from our wholesalers which we always pass onto our clients.
Anyway [end rant],

Well, whenever anybody asks me about hosting a website, registering domain names etc I always mention Infinite... why I didn't think of it when recommending ADSL.... not sure. duh!
As it stands, I've got my domain name registered through Infinite, as well as DNS hosting. Sweet, the only problem is on my end... I keep getting time-outs :( hence the speed upgrade.

Unusual that you're getting time outs on a 256k connection, shads.. Unless you're downloading through Torrent then i would understand. [i get this on a 512K when my torrent/web server is going].. I had recently looked into getting an upgrade in speed, but then i would lose some bandwidth too.. :(

Hey MrShadow/MrPayner, i would look at a better modem that can handle loading better, its a QoS (Quality of Service) feature that will managed the traffic more effectively.

hehe Go Cisco :D damn I love NFR pricing!

Yeah, I was thinking of a new modem with wireless for my Laptop...
Edit:- Just tried it and I get "The operation timed while attempting to contact dag-net.com"
Same as always. I think I need a new modem... And I don't use peer-to-peer or anything like that either... got enough **** on my computer as it is.

Recommendations after Infinite include:
Goldweb ("http://www.goldweb.com.au) ;)
But DoDo is the cheapest atm
Check out your minimum contract time, and of course you know about capping and the like.
We are waiting on our new adsl connection, and we have chosen dodo's unlimited plans.
Another one to keep your eyes on is Root32, although the website reading makes it appear that they are pretty flaky.
You have all the information, and by keeping up to date with Whirlpool, you are pretty much on the pulse of information.
Good luck!

OMG you went with Dodo??? wtf?
No offensive to you but Dodo is the worst ISP ever, bad connections, bad customer service and 24 month contracts... The only thing Dodo has is a fantastic marketing campaign which most ISPs are jealous of.

Hmm, that's handy to know... some of their plans looked pretty good.

I have just joined up with Bigpond 0n ADSL 512k Unlimited
looking forward to when the V8 Supercars are back on.
Also like the fact I get fast technical response when there is problems with the Line. Had Issues with one of the Exchange Boxes, fixed within 24 Hours with a team of technicans spread over the street finding the problem.

hmmm i'd be a moocher and download it but alas, for i still don't have adsl
but the service technician told me a way to get it...
soooo all i need is a small bomb, or similar, placed somewhere around the location of our fibre optic cabling... this is the reason i can't have adsl....

Uncle Rico: What about your girlfriend?
Kip: Well, things are getting pretty serious right now. I mean, we chat online for, like, two hours every day so I guess you could say things are gettin' pretty serious.
Napoleon: You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.

Take a look at the new range of Netspace plans....
Depending on your location in Australia the Cominidico backbone could be a good answer to some peoples demand for low cost. But you need to do your research first.
WestNet (as an example) in Canberra has a very poor reputation, in fact there's quite a few of the big names that actually suck in Canberra.

OK Dodo connected Yesterday...
1) Got e-mail advising of Provisioning and with an hourish they hit all the numbers to let us know by phone that we were ready to go. Willing to give setup info over the phone etc.
2) Got home, tapped in info into the router. Connected. No worries
3) Fixed problem with router rebooting when home phone rang (Line filter related)
4) Spent a few hours with Visitors
5) Started leeching without setting up much in the way of port tunnels etc through the router..
6) Set up firewall and router rules to suit Leeching...
7) Leeching maxes out at ~53KBps... (ie pretty close to Max utilistation of a 512/128 ADSL link) Not bad considering I'm still tuning the router settings and setting up the IP blocker to keep the RIAA and associated spyware and legel goons out of the leeching box.....
In other words Dodo working fine, just like the previous Comindico links we've used for the last two years.
In Sydeny it's a different story, but Canberra Cominidico rocks due to a very under utilised link ;)
