Has any one else experienced rips in thier seats. The material (leather look) has developed a tear in it. Is it easier to get a new seat or get a re-trim. Does any one know where I could get the material so that I can keep the interior looking stock? Any ideas on prcing would also be good.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrew

hmm id say those seats were made overseas so locating the fabric thats 100% perfect may be an issue. you could try an auto trimmer tho and see what they say

cheers mike

Unless someone here has a set for sale I'd be going to the auto trimmers, they have access to stuff you wouldn't believe. SP20s are still a currentish model and a pair of seats from the premium model won't be cheap. Most wreckers only break pairs if one seat is stuffed and that's usualy the drivers one.
You can ask Mazda the price of the seat but from history it gonna be thousands (it's a big bulky item that takes a lot of warehouse space to keep in stock).
So it's off to the trimmers for you :D

yep, and worst case is that the re-trimmer will want to do the entire seat...

was going to get my lancer re-upholstered, but forgot to remove the seat covers when i sold it ... whooops :p

Thanks for that. I will have a chat to Mazda and some trimmers over the coming days and keep you posted as to the decision and cvosts involved.

Does any one know of a trimmer in melbourne that they have used and were happy with?

Thanks,

hey man the seats maybe easier too find than u think, when my brother brought his 1.8 lt protege he got sp20 seats put in for $750 fitted. they were genuine too, oh and on the Australia day cruise there was a stary blue sp20 on 19's with leather sp20 seats thayt looked wicked. The leather ones looked identical but had sp20 embroided in the seats

As jonno said I had a set of sp20 seats in my 1st car, we did get them for a good price but i think it was more luck than anything to land the seats how we did, I know they normal arnt cheap or readily available in Mazda Spare parts so my advice would be to go to your local Auto Trimmer.

Me personally id save up and get the seats retrimed to look like Preeman80's they look awsome, but simple so i dont think they would be overly pricey to get that done.

The thing you have to remember is leather is alot hardier than the stock sp20 material and wont age and look as tatty as the stock interior tends to look like after a couple of kays, I went and saw a 2nd hand sp20 the other day with 45000 kays and that thing needed a retrim, the seats in my old car after 28000 kays were starting to show there age badly, so thats just some food for thought.

Goodluck with what ever you decide to do champ!

I thought about leather seats, but I don't always like them in hot weather..and my wife doesn't like them at all.....but if a tear appears in our seats...i might accidently get them done. They cost about $2000 right.....same as the sunroof did.....that choice was easy.

Lol, that is an old picture... I still have the 19"s and the big brakes... thinking of getting the backs done now. (or save for turbo?)

At this stage I think I am going to leave it. Re trimming is too expensive and mazda wanted $260 for the seat base (which is not too bad).

I would do a full tr-trim but I am thinking of selling the car in the next couple of months so I would be wasting money cause not everyone wil pay to have the nice interior.

Thanks for the ideas though.

From your research what sort of price did you come up with for a retrim of the front two?

was it $2000 for both, all inclusive?

On the topic of SP20 seats, my driver seat has a squeaking spring in the back rest. Is that covered under warranty?

No, I have it in my auto aswell, Mazda refer to it as "wear and tear"...

I thought about it...but I have a different and slightly longer wearing interior anyway. Plus for the same amount a sunroof was more appealing...and is still giving me heaps of joy.
