Hey All,
Anybody got experience with Plastic Welding. I would like
to mod my front bar for some extra ducting and would like
it blended in so instead of fibreglass pieces would like to
plastic weld in some stuff from other models plastic bars.

Any Tips or Traps or places that you could recomend ???

I'm not sure about this but I thought plastic welding made things very brittle??

I remember doing this to the bumper of my old corolla and the flexing and movement of the car eventually un-did all the work i put in!

Hhhmmmm, what to do.......

Cheers

Wouldn't recommend it at all, don't know how tough the Stina bars are, but I would think twice about letting anyone just hack into my car with a welder, especially bits you can see quite clearly. Plus, if you damage it in any way, it'd be permanant. At least with fibre glass you can work away at imperfections, with welding, touch the wrong area and you're screwed.

But I guess in the hands of so-called professionals who know what they are doing, anything is achievable.[/color:post_uid0]

plastic welding is usually used to repair the damaged factory bumper bars, or any plastic parts. the kit has a bottle of white powder and blueish liquid. for example, in a case of cracked bumper bar, place some of the white powder on the inside of the cracked bar, and then drop good amount of blueish liquid onto the white powder. repeat the process untill you get a layer of "plastic" to cover the crack on the inside. or it is perfect to connect the broken plastic brackets, etc.
it leaves ugly finishes, so you will need to used fibreglass and bog on the outside anyway.
if you need a hand, just give me a yell.[/color:post_uid0]

Thanks guys for you input. Just to put this into perspective.
My front bar is broken from the biff that I had 2 months ago.
Around where the jinxed Mazda logo sits is all cracked and
stuffed. Its also only $200 for a new front bumper. Before
I spend that money I wanted to play with adding some extra
ducting like an evo3 type duct or HSV style between the
headlights. I would like something more contoured than what
you used to have Eric with a little less shiny metal. So the
idea of cutting out that section from another busted front
bar and welding it into mine sounds cool. I accept that it
will need a little putty work to smooth it out but I like the
idea of welding over glue. So hence the question.

Thanks

okay...
obviously thats the different kind of plastic welding to what i was talking about.
the one from autospeed is more complicated and the materials you used need to withstand high pressure.
on the other hand, you can use the one i mentioned above to repair/build/mould or add extra parts to the plastic bumpers.
i have repaired my civic a little while ago when some dick 4wd with a tow bar reversed into my front bar. it got cracked really badly, from half all the way up to the top. used the plastic welder/repairer on the inside and used fibreglass and bog on the outside. hifilled the bar, mixed the colour and paint it. done.[/color:post_uid0]

Tony,
With me thinking about my front bar I have come to the
same with my bottom lip. Why just pay for a new one when
I could spend the same sort of money and have a unique one
that I like. How easy or hard would it be to fix the cracks in
mine and adding some extra to the bits on the side similar but
smaller than your extensions.

Sorry meant to say spend the same sort of money on my
existing bottom lip and make it unique.

mal usually to have plastic welding done so u dont notice it you have to have the same colour plastic [ie holes in dash, cut a piece from behind where u wont see it then weld it in] it also has to be the exact same type off plastic or it dont take an it usually leaves the finish a little bit dulla then the rest but they do a good job off blending in no need for bog or anything ive had some work done on my truck dash
