nice clean job!
how long did it take you ?

There are lots of how-to's that I've been meaning to write. One day I'll have the time to sit down and do them.
Although its not one of the ones i had really considered, it might be cool. Certainly, taking off the front bar would be in there.

Looks good! :)

i've started to do a how-to to remove the interior/dash but have never finished it..

and i should probably do a front bar one while mine is still unattached to the car (as i meshed mine recently)...

one day! :p[/color:post_uid0]

thatd be an excellent idea! a whole tech section in relation to how to pull apart and put your astina back together![/color:post_uid0]

The whole job took me about 4hrs, but I was dicking about in the engine bay cleaning and making things look pretty, would say it would take no more then 2 hours. Hardest part is getting the bar off.

I also removed the tow hook (which is what the first couple of pics are for, they show the bolts where the tow hook was). This is kinda ironic now I need the car towed to the mechanic tomorrow....

Sorry about pic sizes... but at least they are good qual pics :)[/color:post_uid0]

i know i know... but its still ironic... removing the tow hook and then needing a tow....[/color:post_uid0]

It's weird - a lot of the BA hatches have mising tow hooks. i've noticed heaps without...

the new Mazda6 front tow hook actually screws into the bumper - just pop a little cover off below the headlight and screw it in![/color:post_uid0]

Wow mate simple install there. Just half a dozen screws.
I think without the H its a bit harder or maybe I just did
overkill as I bent mine all round the sides of the opening
and used a ****load of heat glue.

Well done

Yeah it uses 2 screws in the H section, but you can cable tie to the top of the section so I dont think it will be a major issue. Will see when I pull the H out eh :)[/color:post_uid0]

Has anyone written up a how to on getting the front bar off? Thats my job for this weekend, so any pointers would be great.

I had a look and it looked like it was a case of taking the 2 lights out and going from there - is that the right approach?

I can scan the book and send it to you if you like (only the relevant pages, it is a big book).

Thanks for this guys - the more I know about this job the better as i dont have a garage in my new flat, and the road outside is hardly flat, so it normally takes a bit longer to get anything done :-)

Another simple question (ok, so this one will make me sound stupid :-)) What do you guys use to cut the mesh? Are tin snips best? Its just i've never played with mesh before and i'll have to go buy something to cut it with (unless wire cutters work) so i might as well make sure i buy the right tool for the job...

Cosmo Dude

Tin snips are fine. Leave your self some overlap and no one will see the cut. I went to the cheap and nasty shop and spent $2 on mine, I'm only cutting aluminium.

I am planning on using aluminium pop rivits and s/steel washers to hold it to the bar as I don't want any rusty marks in the long term.

Remember measure twice and cut once.

I definatley did the measure twice last weekend when I was doing my CAI and had to butcher my air box to fit a 100mm pipe - my girlfriend had threatend me with driving it with no filter if i couldn't get it done by night fall so i couldn't risk getting it wrong :-)

Thanks cosmo dude for sending through the required pages for removing the lights/bar. :)

I thought i'd put them up for anyone else that wants them as well...

Check here for a copy of the pages (http://www.geocities.com/fishofmine/lantisbar.html)

Looks good,
I'll send you some other pages, some questions are frequently asked and this could answer them.

So there are only 2 screws holding in the V6 spot lights.....

Here's me thinking illegal thoughts about that unreg V6 round the
corner again. Be strong... No !!! Dont be bad....
