[color=#000000:post_uid9]Just wondering what type of spark plugs should I get next for my 97 Astina hatch? The standards ones currently are NGK ones (# BKR5E-11) ... apparently there are better ones for better performance ... Titianium? Should I stick with the same ones or are any recommendations for anything better? Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks

[color=#000000:post_uid0]Dear Apparition,
Standard spark pugs in your car are:
NGK BKR5E-11
DENSO K16PR-U11
Upgrade plugs are:
NGK BKR5EV-11
(1.0mm diameter gold-palladium centre electrode)
DENSO K16PR-ZU11
(Thin 0.7mm diameter platinum centre electrode)
DENSO IK16
(Ultra thin 0.4mm diameter iridium centre electrode)
You van also buy genuine Mazda plugs with platinum tip
This are K16PR-TP11 (Mazda JE42-18-110)
In general the secret for a good spark is a small centre electrode. The thinner the centre electrode, the easier it is to make a spark (lower required Voltage)
However because there is less material, the material should be a lot stronger, wear resistant and resistant to higher temperatures. This is what platinum and especially iridium is.
I have found more info at
http://www.denso.co.jp/plug/iridium-e
