When dropping down the gears (gear braking if you will), I find the car doesn't pull up as well as other 4 cyl engined cars I have driven. Kinda like dropping a gearbox from 4th to second @ 60-70 km/hr & being thrown over the steering wheel! (OK exaggeration)
Is this normal for one of these engines?
I have a stock pipe from the manifold back. Only mod is a good size free-flow muffler at rear.[/color:post_uid0]

Think you will find its the reverse of the acceleration. Cos
the cubes are fairly small and it doesn't go all that great the
flipside is that its only a little motor to try and slow down
your car. Compression should be 160 odd for a 2000 car.
180 is new, anything round 100 and you got problems.

You're probably right, but I hada 93 Seca (1.6L) that had heaps more than the Astina. Went a lot harder too![/color:post_uid0]

Sorry dont know much about the 1.6.
If you think it is really down on power have it checked out
and put on an analysis machine or better still a dyno.
Not exactly cheap but if you really think it is down on
power or something is not working right eg say o2 sensor
which would make the car run on safe settings it is the best
way to fix it and be happy.
