I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I AM TYPING THIS...........
I wont be running :( :(
I am earning less these days and I need to take every weekend to find O/T from some where and get the $$$ ticking over till I complete this damn fuggen engine, I still have around $4500 to come up with to finish what I have started and this is taking way too long.
So I probably wont be attending unless I have no work lined up and then I will be there with the pom poms and the cheerleaders dancing around and singing .....Give me a T give me a W give me a I and a G.............
Yeeeah Andy

feeling sick are you? hehe

Tublade
16-05-2005, 10:39 AM
if i do go, i'll have to get the info on what stuff that we can and cannot take out of the car to make it lighter, i've already got some 15" rims to put on my car for the drag,

twilightprotege
16-05-2005, 10:53 AM
for test and tunes you can do whatever you want.

for real racing it is a little limited. check this out : http://www.andra.com.au/technical/SCREGS0405W.htm

work out what class you want to race in and go from there. when i compete i will be racing in the all motor, front runner and sport fwd classes

Nate

ill be there supporting ... i think my engine will blow up if i take it down the strip :p

as for stripping the car ... i would be inclined to run it in street trim personally, but for the hec of it ... take it apart take it apart :p

twilightprotege
16-05-2005, 10:52 PM
spare parts car?

Tublade
16-05-2005, 11:03 PM
i so want to run my car down the track, by taking everything i can out, but i've been think all day its not going to prove anything saying that i run XX seconds down the track with the way the car will never be like on the streets, i think that if i do take the car down the track now i'm just going to leave everything in, that way my can run the track with everything that i have in my car everyday. But at the moment i need to upgrade my brakes, as i'm starting to feel the brakes thru the pedal.

twilightprotege
17-05-2005, 08:14 AM
run the 1/4 with the car stripped right down. then next time do a street trim run.

twilightprotege
17-05-2005, 11:02 AM
well poo.

got an email from the place i was going to get the hoosier drag radials from. they are so new, they werent even put on the container from america.

but there is a backup. bfgoodrich makes a drag radial called the g-Force TA. i'm going to see if i can get my hands on a pair of them. should be cheaper too. will go for 205/50/15.

for someone who's got absolutely no idea about drag racing, wot's makes drag tyres special??? obviously soft compound and ability to run low pressures is all i can think of.....

twilightprotege
17-05-2005, 11:21 AM
far softer compound (like a tread wear of 0, yes 0), heats ups very quickly to allow full traction with a very very small burnout, doesnt mind going through numerous heat cycles, softer sidewalls for that slingshot launch effect, and most importantly - i'm not wasting my everyday street tyres.

Astro Boy
17-05-2005, 11:25 AM
ah, tru.. thanks ;)

twilightprotege
17-05-2005, 11:52 AM
think of them like the difference between everyday street tyres and off-road tires for rally. not quite full on rally tyres, but far better than street tyres

Astro Boy
17-05-2005, 12:01 PM
i see :)

difference being rally tyres need really hard sidewalls and sidewall protecters... not really needed on a dragstrip...

now that'd be cool... a dirt dragstrip :D

then again... as if FWD's aren't disadvanted enough anyway :(

twilightprotege
17-05-2005, 12:08 PM
a dirt drag strip would be interesting!

CRA23
17-05-2005, 02:58 PM
my car is too slow even to look at a drag strip :) plus i also have to work that nite :(

dam straight! i swear i'll overtake some cars using that oneday!

twilightprotege
18-05-2005, 07:14 PM
poo poo poo.

tyre update.

there are no bfgoodrich drag radials in 205/50/15 in australia. bugger. no 225/50/15 either. so it looks like no drag radials for me.

however i have a backup (2nd backup). toyo proxes RA-1's. they are (apparently) the softest semi-slick around and can be used for drag racing. the compound is good, but the sidewall is too firm for drag racing and wont allow for that ripple you see and therefore the greatest slingshot launch. but, they are certainly better than street tyres.

i have the australian importer of the bfgoodrich tyres apparently calling me back (not holding my breath) so i'll see what happens there. i have also emailed a couple of tire places in america that sell the bfgoodrich drag radials to see if they'll send them over to me. they'd have to get back to me overnight with a yes for me to have them in time for the 4th incase of shipping delays.

oh well, i guess i'll have a suitable tyre either way.

Astro Boy
18-05-2005, 09:49 PM
toyo proxes RA-1's.

Australia's fastest front wheel drive road car down the strip runs RA-1's... i don't think you'll have a problem! ;)

Astro Boy
18-05-2005, 09:53 PM
i looked into them for touring road events that have very short sprint sections with no lead up... they're cheaper than Yoko A032R, and are definately the softest semi slicks going around.. but like you say, have one of the hardest sidewalls....

if wost comes to worst, just get the RA-1's, then you've got tyres you can use for other things aswell....

Nate
18-05-2005, 09:53 PM
but how many people do you know with toyo proxies on there box trailer ... :D :D :D :D

yeah i'm sure the ra1's will be fine, but would be nice to have even better

Astro Boy
18-05-2005, 11:41 PM
isn't it always ;)

*thinks of the $250k Prodrive STi i'd have if money were no object*

But seriously, if Dave Homer's Green/Black Suzuki Swift (currently Aus's fastest FWD) runs what he does on RA-1's.. then they've gotta be alright...

twilightprotege
19-05-2005, 07:07 AM
strange they run that tyre.

almost all of the fastest fwd cars in america use the bfgoodrich drag radials.

Astro Boy
19-05-2005, 11:13 AM
i think its a sponsorship thing... but still, it doesn't seem to hinder his progress...

But i can vouch for how soft they are... alot of the top running guys run them out at the autocross track (yes, dirt), and most of them are back to bald... so once the dirt track rubbers up a bit, soft slicks are the best thing to have... i ran A032R, but only cause you can get them 2nd hand cheap...

twilightprotege
19-05-2005, 11:47 AM
update - i have found a company in america that can export the bfg tyres. just waiting on a quote back on shipping. even if the shipping is $200usd, it'll still be cheaper to import them! doesnt that just suck. no wonder australian stuff costs so damn much

QuicKSilveR
19-05-2005, 03:38 PM
I want to come race - FWD on FWD. I have some Brand new tyres on the front so I should get some grip if I can learn to not spin it into next gear :)

twilightprotege
19-05-2005, 08:46 PM
come along then!

twilightprotege
20-05-2005, 07:53 AM
got a shipping price for the tyres - $177usd ea. so that'll make the tyres a total cost of $393usd. still cheaper than buying them here.

will be placing the order today! :D

Nice work! I have found importing car gear from overseas and dealing with the company direct is alot cheaper than buying it in OZ. We're loosing job but until the retailers realize we ain't gonna keep paying high prices. This act will keep happening.

returned.

previous best, 15.450

first run tonight 15.410
2nd 15.315
3rd 15.305
4th 15.296
5th 15.268

was hoping for better, but everything on all of these runs was better than last time. very consistant everything - 60ft, reaction, mph, ET. overall happy with the night. tyres rock, just need mo power!

chicaboo
05-06-2005, 12:54 AM
Yeah, I think you did well considering the calibre of cars (AND SCOOTERS!) running 15s and 16s. Particulary nice to see how consistant you were you, a pitty you didn't pull a 14. Any guess what the UDP, cam gears and Microtech will put you at next time?

Gav.

boostedbatman
05-06-2005, 06:49 AM
Well done Andy you may be chasing better but the part that I like is that the times were constantly falling showing thatyou still have more to drop on this setup
How were the 60' with the new clutch etc
And what was your previous PB @ 60'
Did you get the terminal speed up much??
Lotsa Qs

chicaboo
05-06-2005, 10:05 AM
I don't think you should be comparing Andrew's PBs from last year 15.45, 2.206? etc... If you look at his times from earlier this year it shows a bigger imrpovement, ie: ~15.9? down to 15.26!

twilightprotege
05-06-2005, 10:58 AM
yeah 60ft's - 1 was 2.2, rest were 2.1xx with the best being 2.121. best mph 89.53 up from 88.03. car just gripped off the line. clutch felt good, however driving home it was a little strange. didnt come on smoothly as much, was biting more.

consistant 0.5xx reaction times - i could have easily dialed in at 15.25 and beat a lot of ppl!

this night was all about consistancy!
