What is the best oil to use in our geabox's? I am using ****ty Castrol VMX80 oil at the moment and its disguisting... Soon as the box warms up the oil must be frothing cause it becomes really hard to change gears... I have been told to run Synthetic... I need 4 litres... I will spend upto $35 a litre...[/color:post_uid0]

Didn't you ask this before. I am serious when I say that the
mazda uses auto trans fluid which is heaps thinner. Go to
Repco and look at the oil book and I am 99% sure it will
confirm what I am saying.

Hey Tony,
Do you (or anyone) know where to get Redline MT90 in Canberra mate? Im trying to cure my notchy gearbox.
Mal, I searched this 626 site that said this about using ATF in an MTX gearbox
"Some manuals list ATF as an appropriate oil - this is incorrect. Engineering tolerances for ATF v 75w90 gearbox design differ.
A synthetic gear oil provides better gear-teeth protection & lubrication, reduces transmission losses during warmup so aiding the environment regarding emissions & fuel usage."

On the topic of gearboxes (well kinda) i've got a mate who's got a KH Laser TX3. he's always breaking boxes, but most recently had an Astina SP20 gearbox installed. Apparently it mated right up (the 2.0 being a BP stroker), and only needed some minor fiddling with driveshafts to get it all working.
And it's supposed to be a lot stronger than the laser gearboxes that he used to run. Which i'm guessing would be the same as the 89-94 SP gearboxes...[/color:post_uid0]

Hi Tony,
I bought my Redline MT90 GL4 Gear oil last week, the redline guy came down to Canberra to do some research on who can be the distributors in Canberra. Pretty soon I think we will be able to get it here somewhere?
It aint cheap though, 4lts cost me about $104
Cheers

not sure what's wrong with your gearbox, but it could be worn syncros?
but a mate with a KH Laser TX3 had an SP20 gearbox fitted to his car, as apparently they're a little stronger than the standard BP box. But he did need customs driveshafts made up to fit.[/color:post_uid0]
