ToyBoy and I were discussing each others dyno figures?

I have been measured at 55kw at the front wheels...

anyone else had their astina dynoed?

yeah I have had my turbo astina dynoed, that was befor I put the forgged pistons, lowered the compression and put the big front mount cooler, back then it was around 185kw , should be getting it re-dynoed in about 2 weeks as thats when I should have the motor back in the car. new results should be around 210+kw.

is that at the flywheel or at the wheels?

if that is at the wheels, check the dyno figure at a different place...184 @ fwd???
i to be in your place in the wet going around the corner when boost comes on... ???

but.....
why would you want the boost to come on when doing a corner in the wet?????

here is my Dyno readout..
It was actually 56.4kw @ the wheels
[img:post_uid0]http://www.astinagt.com/images/dyno.gif[/img:post_uid0]

Some of the other cars results were very similar
HONDA CRX 1.6 DOHC D16A
Power 57.6
Torque 1376

HONDA VTI CIVIC COUPE 1.6 DOHC VTEC
Power 59.4
Torque 1484

OPEL CORSA GSI 1.6 DOHC ECOTEC
Power 54.1
Torque 1467

from these figures you can see that the astina has a lot of torque (1569nm) compared to other cars around the same 90-100kw standard flywheel power but all those cars are 1.6 litres. But the big suprise of the day was the non vtec 1.8 Honda Integra GSI Power 66.8
Torque 2746

So really to compare apples with apples the Honda 1.8 is much better engineered than the mazda... the GSI Integra has 110kw @ flywheel standard opposed to the Mazda Astina 1.8 having 92kw

there was a flat spot on my dyno read out which is from a unknown cause but my guess is I need a Power Boost Valve to increase fuel pressure due to the air intake and the extractors... Also this dyno run was done before I had the chance to do the 5000kms service and I had 18x7.5 rims on which makes a huge difference I have found recently.[/color:post_uid0]

Turbo, just to answer your question there was a Mazda
FWD LSD box that was made for the BF 323 Turbo's like
the infinity. *They are pricey at around the same as a 4wd
box. *Think the last one I saw was either $1200 or $1800
sorry mate I have problems with memory some times. What
was I saying *:( *oh yeah, haven't heard of really any other
LSD for them. *You may be able to get a Quaife setup but
I think that may be over the top $$$.
I have been asking some questions about the Focus RS
MTX-75 gearboxes about their strength and they can be
made to take the quaife no probs, you can buy them from
heaps of places with them in the UK. If and when I find out
some details can let you know as I am sure you want both
a LSD and also a box that isn't afraid of a bit of boost yeah.

On the Dyno figures...
My SP20 has a Unichip and a 2" cat-back zorst and a K&N panel filter.
At Croydon's on their Dyno Dynamics thing it made 78.3kw and 193.2Nm at the front wheels.[/color:post_uid0]

see I reckon 18's makes huge difference but everyone reckons the dyno we were on was 20kw down[/color:post_uid0]

Hey Tony,
* * I told you that standard we were meant to turn around 74kw @wheels, makes my dyno figure of 90kw@wheels not seem to far out anymore  even though to this day i still dont think it was quite that!! :p
* *The sooner we have a dyno day the better :D

* * * * * * *Catch ya *Theo :D[/color:post_uid14]

There can be a fair bit of variation dyno to dyno and day to day of course.
That's pretty lumpy old power "curve", mine is heaps smoother.....[/color:post_uid0]

BigBoyLemonade

Hey Toyboy but how does a 2 litre get 76kw @ wheels and your 1.8 litre get 92kw with the same mods...

yeah that is a very lumpy power curve, looks like they included all the gear changes in the dyno sheet[/color:post_uid0]

I think that astina is in need of a desperate tune

If you look at the graph the car is making power, then losing it, then making it again. (to the wheels) It should be a nice curved line going up.

My first post!.. Hows it going gang ive noticed u guys are swapping in GTX motors into ur astinas. I myself am doing the same swap but into a 1993 Mazda Protege LX. I was wondering first how much 180kw is in horsepower amounts and also what transmission u guys are using for the swap. Seems my stock G-series tranny will only hold 300 hp. Ive also noticed u guys talking about a FWD Lsd transmission?? never heard of it please help...Jon[/color:post_uid0]

180kw is about 250hp the factor is 1.4hp per KW.
Don't know about the 300hp for the FWD boxes I
have busted 2 of mine with a standard 134kw motor.
FWD LSD comes from the 323 infini which was
not released here. Boxes are about $1800 when found
but if they are any stronger than a std box is not known.

Ah Are transmission hold around 300 hp before they pop. or so they say. What year were those 323's made and how much is 1800 compared to US money?...Jon[/color:post_uid0]

BigMal
03-02-2003, 02:15 AM
Bout $900 US.
Shipping probably the same. If your in the US buy a Escort GT gearbox. If in asia better to source local the infini box.

All this talk about dyno numbers is not a good way to get an indication about how fast your car is, the best way is quater mile times and trap speeds. If you want to use the dyno as an indication of how much power you gained from a mod, the sure that is fine and its also a good way to tune your car.
My car stock was dynoed at 86kw @tw, a bit low you might say, so i tried it on another dyno and i got 96kw @tw, it all comes down to the dyno operator really...[/color:post_uid0]
