Hi guys,
Im new to this forum, but a regular user of the UK site.
I run a Mazda Latis (astina, 323f equiv) 2.0 V6 Type R with a Jap spec Motor.
It has recentely decided to bend a valve, score the pistons, leak oil and generally misfire. Therefore it is going to get a new engine.
Now This is fine - im a competent mechanic, but I am looking for some kind of procedure, or tips on the removal of the engine for a straight swap.
Any chance any of you could help? I tried a forum search, but this returned very little :-(
Any help gratefully recieved.
Cheers guys (and gals so as not to be sexist!)

Brad,
How did you bend a valve???
They are a non-interference engine eg: pistons can never come into contact with the valves
Anyway the first thing is the air con...v.v.messy.... fold a towel in half a few times and poke a phillips head screwdriver through. There is a bleed valve located on the passenger side firewall. unscrew the cap and press the valve-needle with the screwdrivre but quickly cover the area in the towel and bleed away. then its safe to detach the pipes
Remove the radiator with fans attached by taking off plate at top and unit will lift free after hoses are disconnected
Wiring loom.
Be sure to mark the clips to the loom with the engine clips so you remember where they go back
Power steering, this is tricky due to space limitations I found it easier to remove the IM to get access to the back of the motor (drivers side between engine and firewall for PS and to get to rear engine mount). A bit awkward but theres 2 pipes there. Then at the fill reservior
Exhaust manifold, easiest way is to remove the 3 bolts just after the cats and swap the manifolds after
Drivers side CV. Drop the wheel hub off the strut and control arm and it should swing forward allowing you to pop the boot from the Intermediate Shaft with a large screwdriver. Then its easy to remove the IS with the 1 or 2 bolts at the rear of the engine
Connect engine to hoist and be sure to get it balanced correctly
Time for Gearbox (I removed the GB with the engine but you dont have to, There are 3 mounts on the GB and 1 on the engine its up to you.)
Lots of bolts here
Drivers side engine mount, undo top nut is the easiest or take the mount off
Engine should lift free
This is a vague rough idea of what is involved and I will be writing a highly detaied list covering all bases and tools required with pictures in the coming months
But this should get you in there
Good luck with it

Peter,
Thanks so much for that - i will remember to remove the fuel line as well - im thinking leaving that attached was an oversight, and that it might not be the best idea ;)
As for how i bent a valve....well to be fair im not even sure it has - in fact knowing the engine is non contact, I doubt it has- however its showing all the right characteristics - misfire, poor performance, lots of lifter noise.
To be fair I've just given up on the lump - it was dodgy when I got the car and rather than spend hours on end trying to locate problems, thousands of pounds fixing lifters and valve seals - i decided the sensible option would be to change the lump and know where Im starting from.
I looked at your engine on a chain in utter awe - I WANT an engine that looks like that!!!
IN terms of what I have - well its hard to get JDM's over here - but I managed to find a couple of KF's at around the £700 mark self fit, or £1000 fitted - i could be tempted with the fitted one because it comes with a 60,000 mile warranty - thats awesome!
It should then re-claim its crown as one of the fastest BA's in the UK - until shaggy puts his BPT in and none of us can keep up.....
Thanks again

Sure it hasn't dropped a valve seat? Can be very similar to a bent valve in how it appears. It could be just a case of putting a new head on.
EDIT: Well der, I really shoulda checked how old the thread was!
