I have just purchased a 2000 model Astina Shades with 1.6L (BJ I think) motor.
A bit gutless. Can you guys suggest any good engine tweaks for these. ie. chip, etc to squeeze a bit more power out of it whilst still maintaining reliability?
Thanx in advance!
Dave. ;0)[/color:post_uid9]

Chips are mega bucks for a little increase. Your best bet
is K&N, exhaust, premium petrol and a small advance in
timing to make the most of the premium.

What are K&N air filters worth?
Can you get chips that are EPROM? (re-programmable chips).
So you can download newer BIOS/programs from the net like you can for an XBOX mod chip.[/color:post_uid0]

K&N Pod filters/panel filters are usually around the $100 mark, i think[/color:post_uid0]

OK. Would you say the performance difference on a 1.6L is worthy of 100 bucks? For example, some people say that Optimax fuel makes a notable difference to power. I have never noticed it in a 4 cyl engine. I did get around 50kms more out of a tank in my 1.6L seca, but didn't notice with that Maz.
Are there any other benefits from a pod?
Thanx,

with some cold air induction piping running to a K&N panel filterin your existing airbox, you would definitely notice a slight increase - i did

or go a pod and mount it with some heat sheilding around it with the CAI piping and it will be much the same.

but either way it'll be a bit quicker :) and you'll probably get a cool induction roar :;):[/color:post_uid0]

Its more a case of nippy than more power. The car revs
easier and just feels like it is more nippy. To make the
best of optimax you advance the timing by a couple of
degrees to get a better burn and more power. But you
need to run it all the time as normal petrol may ping.
