Short of doing a big turbo conversion, quad throttle or 2 Litre transplant, what gains would you expect to see from adding a 2" exhaust, 4 into 1 extractors & air filter?
What other additions or changes could I make without blowing a huge wad of cash. Not looking for anything jaw dropping, just a little more oomph. How do you go about increasing the timing (positive/negative effects?).
It's late, and my questions a little vague I know . . .[/color:post_uid0]

Try advancing the cams, run high octain petrol and advance your timing just befor the car starts to ping. then you should see a difference in power.[/color:post_uid0]

A good exhaust and airfilter (K&N panel or pod) will give you
about 5-10% increase. *Don't go 4-1 extractors as they are
meant for high revs by design. *If you want them then go
4-2-1. *Having said that I am not a big believer in extractors
without matching camshafts and that the factory header is
good enough. *Sure Lantis and Theo may be able to chip in
about the gains. *The exhaust itself and moreso the muffler
is where the gain comes from as its the most restrictive part.
Go to Autospeed.com and read their exhaust article. *The idea
is to reduce backpressure but not eliminate it. *Don't go
straight through as you will lose too much bottom end. Go
a chambered muffler and that should be fine. *Standard
usually go in a S pattern to reduce as much noise and drone
as possible for the general market.[/color:post_uid1]

Advancing the timing gives a better burn so bigger bang.
You need a timing light and also need to know how to
bridge the diagnostic connector to put it to base timing
with no idle up system operating. *The bad side is you
increase to possibility of detonation. *Would only recomend
it if you run and always run hi-octane 98 premium. If you
do then you can add 2-4degrees advance. *For some
info on trial and errors read the US MX5 sites eg Miata.com
and search their posts on advance timing.

Sorry to bring this topic back up, but I am currently investigating some options for more power in my car. I have been looking into superchargers / turbochargers etc. I would like some advice on the best way to go. For a 1.5L DOHC 16V engine, would something like a Garret T-25 Bolt on turbo with cooler be sufficient for some good gains? Being new to the forced induction scene I just would like a gently shove in the right direction here. I would also be looking at a pod filter and UniChip piggyback system to monitor it all, probably setting the boost at 7psi if that's possible.
If anyone has any tps, hints or ideas on what I should be doing please let me know. I am keen to get started on some engine work now :)[/color:post_uid0]

T-25's can be bought that will flow up to 320hp so you
will notice a difference with it on. Are you looking to
change the pistons or keep the standard and run low boost.
If the latter then probably best to get either a Chiptorque
or AVO kit already done with all brackets etc for the hyundai.
Think the kits are around $5500. Using 2nd hand stuff for
turbo and I/C you may be able to knock say $1000 off but
will need a lot of investigation on you part with farming out
the work or doing yourself.
