OFFICIAL CRUISE DETAILS!!

What? The Annual AstinaGT Cruise 2006

When? Saturday 28 January 2006

Where? Sydney to Berrima, taking the Princes Hwy through Wollongong, and the new Sea Cliff Bridge that has just opened. Have a look at this Map (http://www.nowwhereroute.com/travelmate/SmartTrip/mappage.aspx?fromTown=thornleigh&toTown=berrima&RouteType=FASTEST&ViaTown1=rhodes&ViaTown2=wollongong) for a rough idea of the route we'll be taking.

Time? Cruise will begin in Thornleigh at 9am, meeting at Heathcote Maccas about 10.15am, Wollongong approx. 11.30am, then lunch at Berrima about 1.00pm. Give or take. After lunch the cruise will continue for those interested, more photos taken at a nearby park, and if people are interested we can organise to have dinner and drinks in the area before heading home.

Who? All AGT and OMC members and partners/friends. Please bring yourself and friends who will enjoy a day out with the Club - make sure you add them to the list. Especially those members who haven't attended a cruise before, this is the one to be on! You don't have to have a Mazda to attend (I don't).

Eating? Lunch will be at Berrima at the Surveyor General Inn (http://www.highlandsnsw.com.au/surveyorgeneral/). Read later threads for more information.

Meet up points?
9am, leaving 9.15am - Thornleigh Maccas,
leaving 9.30am - Homebush P6 Carpark (will need someone to volunteer and coordinate this meetup point),
10.15-10.45am - Heathcote Maccas (near BP servo) and
11.30am - Wollongong (near Ten Pin Bowling Centre, Bellambi St, Russel Vale)
Arriving Berrima: approximately 1pm.

What to bring? A clean sparkling car (obviously!), friends, UHF handheld radios/CBs (channel to be determined later), camera + batteries/video camera, sunscreen, water, money for lunch, an E-Tag if you are heading _home_ via the M7, a full tank of petrol and a good sense of humour!

Erm, I was under the impression we were heading NORTH.

I have booked accom in Sydney on Friday night and Saturday night but I will be coming halfway home again for the cruise?

Friday:
Drive from Canberra to Sydney
Saturday:
Drive from Sydney halfway to Canberra then back to Sydney
Sunday:
Drive from Sydney to Canberra

I figure this is my fault because I haven't checked in on the details regularly lately.
And I have already booked accommodation.

I don't know why, but I could have sworn we were all going north.
I am going insane, ok insanerer ;)

Not sure if we will be cruising but we will be in Sydney.

Kitty! *shaking head* Well, it's all sorted now ;) lol

Great to hear you are coming Braxta!
We're going to be meeting at either Engadine Maccas or an Oval. Nate knows more about it, so i'll get more details off him.

Now, time to inform you of our lunch plans.
LUNCH

Earlier on, Arden mentioned a great place in Berrima called the Surveyor General Inn. I have been tossing up between this place and The White Horse Inn, but felt the Surveyor had a better meal deal and also a nicer setting for a large gathering of people. The White Horse Inn require a $200 deposit which is non-refundable. So....with that, I just called the Surveyor Inn and the lovely lady will be setting aside approximately 30 chairs for the day in the Beer Garden!!! And if it's bad weather, she's going to book the private function room available for us. Ah, country people are so nice :)

The Surveyor General is the oldest continuously licenced inn in all of Australia, built in 1834, so it has a very interesting history to it!! It is set on the Old Hume Hwy (Berrima's main throughfare) and has a fantastic beer garden (yah! the Beery!) where we can eat from their yummy Bistro Menu (http://www.highlandsnsw.com.au/surveyorgeneral/bistro.html) (Prices have changed slightly). Please have a look at this and have a think about what you would like on the day, as there will be a lot of us ordering all at once. And for all those carnivorous lunchers, there is a Cook your own on the BBQ, so you get it cooked how you like it - still mooing?

Hoping to arrive between 12.30-1pm for lunch, so we have a couple of hours to eat and relax on the lovely lawn, under the trees, sipping on light beers or soft drinks for our P drivers ;)

Now for everyone thinkin "Where will I park my car?", I too, have that figured out! For those people who don't want to park on the main street or outside the Inn, there is a little lane way beside the Inn (on the right hand side) that leads to a carpark behind. When i was there on Sunday, both carparks were full, BUT across the road, opposite the Inn there is a grass area where you can park. It's a bit "off-road" so if you are fully-sick low, then I suggest parking on the street.

So I hope all of you are starting to feel peckish or are licking your lips in anticipation of our lunch stop ;) - lol well, I am! And I hope this arrangement pleases everyone. If anyone has any dietary needs, please PM me and I will pass it on to the Inn.

Can't wait for the 28th!!

Not sure if we will be cruising but we will be in Sydney.

The cruise was initially going to be north and it was going to be on Australia when i was organising the cruise, but due to the bitching between users, I kinda lost track of what was going on with the cruise and i left it for a while to calm down.

I have since organised a cruise with the people on Oz Mazda Club which is on the central coast and on the 26th, since your already in the sydney area come and make a treak up the coast with 33 other mazdas, its bound to be an awsome day and its shaping out to be as big as the cruise i put on last Australia Day with Astina GT posibly even bigger.

This cruise is not interested in the numbers of people attending or trying to top any cruise in the past. Even if 10 people turn up, it's still a cruise. We're interested in the quality of the cruise and the people who are coming, hence the location of the cruise and lunch stop, so everyone enjoys the day. Please remember that.

Heya Guys!!

Sorry i haven't been in touch, but went away over the weekend. Haven't been camping in years, but hell it's fun! Especially when it's raining ;) lol - Rule number 1....

Now, this coming weekend, I'm heading down to Berrima to suss out the route, so by this time next week I'll have all the details of where exactly everything is happening, including meet up spots and the rds were taking. Then I will be trying to gain a good idea of who is coming - including those maybes - and where they will be joining up with the cruise. So if you can start posting where you'll be starting the cruise, that'd be mighty helpful. Also if you are starting at HOMEBUSH, if you'd like to volunteer to coordinate the meet there - nothing much involved, just making sure you leave on time and know the route to Engadine - I would be very grateful.

If you have any queries either PM me or get me on MSN (klish21@hotmail.com). This cruise is going to be a beauty :) AND we're taking the Sea Cliff Bridge!! A massive feat of engineering!! And should provide a fantastic area for taking photos on the day!!

thanks braxta!! :) as "cruise poolin'" is a good idea when some people just don't want to drive the distance or are more into taking the photos. one of the guys on here (brad? blue sp20?), took his brother as a passenger on a cruise, and he was able to film heaps of the cruise. it looked mad when he'd edited it and posted it up!

and as i've said before: i've also got 4 spares seats in my car and am more than happy to take people who aren't too sure about driving the distance :)

dave: are you still coming? cos i know on OMC you said you were working and weren't able to attend. and even if it's a horse and cart, just come! it'll be a nice day out, and i'm pretty sure you guys will enjoy lunch :D if you could get babs and marco to come out, i'd love to catch up with them again :)

mams: would be great to see you!! it's really nice to meet new members, esp. on cruises. anyone is invited to this cruise :) come along for the trip, meet all the AGT members and have a scrummy lunch! will be a good day out :) also, make sure you add your name to the list.

and daz: pppplllease come!! bring ya girl along too!! - actually bring anyone along from CCMC, regardless of what car they have. it was lovely to meet you guys last mth, and would be nice to catch up. look, if james can still drive his slowtege with the numerous amounts of damage to that, i'm absolutely positive your car will be fine. otherwise, you guys are more than welcome to travel with me on the day.

this is shaping up to be such a great day! i'm still heading down the route on sunday to check out exactly where we are going. i want this cruise to run as smoothly as possible so everyone enjoys the day :)

Ladies and Gentlemen!!

I did a reconnaissance mission on Sunday, with the help of Rob - thanku for sharing lunch with mum and i, and for driving back from the little incident with the brakes!! And i now have ALL the details to our fantastic cruise on the 28th Jan :)

The day went very smoothly! Oh, apart from a minor set back, where my brakes decided to fade coming down Jamboree Hill     yah, not the nicest feeling when you press the brake and you get no response. luckily i was only in 2nd gear and close to the bottom and had a little area to pull up in. ooooh white smoke....that can't be good ;) so i think the laser might have to have a wincy little bit of work done to it before the cruise.

Now, i've set the route exactly: meet ups, times, roads to take. It is now up to you where you join the cruise and it is your responsibility to turn up at the organised times. I probably won't know who is turning up where, so we're not going to wait around for you if you're late, unless you contact someone on the day - will be putting my mobile number up later.

So here goes.....

- Continue along Lawrence Hargrave Dr through Clifton, Scarborough, Wombarra, Coledale, Austinmer, Thirroul

- Get in the LEFT lane and bear left and continue along Princes Hwy (don't go up Bulli Pass!!)

- About 1km afterwards is a 60km Speed Camera. Continue along Princes Hwy.

- Turn LEFT at Bellami Lane and follow signs to Wollongong near Russell Vale Service Station. There is a large sign pointing left to Wollongong and Port Kembla - follow this one. DO NOT go straight ahead on the Princes Hwy towards Corrimal.

- Turn RIGHT onto the Northern Distributor and follow signs for Port Kembla/Nowra and the F6. DON'T go into Wollongong!! Stay on freeway.

- Time to Cruuuuiiise! Follow the Southern Fwy (F6/Highway 1) for about 16kms until you reach a verdie large roundabout, signposted Albion Park and Illawarra Hwy. Turn RIGHT.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/klish21/Cruise/illawarrahwy.gif

- Continue along the Illawarra Hwy until it intersects with Tongarra Rd. Turn RIGHT onto the continuation of the Illawarra Hwy (Albion Park Hotel). Follow Route 48 and signs for Moss Vale.

- Continue along the Illawarra Hwy for quite some time (approx 50kms). You will pass through Macquarie Pass NP, and will know so when you hit the hill. The hill is VERY steep and narrow. No stupidness on this hill and HEADLIGHTS ON!!! Now if we can pull over before the hill and bunch up, that will be arranged on the day, so we hopefully won't have to follow the Countrylink bus up the hill or a volvo driver.

- At the top of the hill you will pass by Robertson's Pie Shop. If we have lost ppl on the way up the hill, we will pull over and wait for them opposite the shop. Continue along the Hwy until Moss Vale.

- Near Moss Vale you will come to a roundabout. TURN LEFT and continue through the town of Moss Vale, past the train station and shops.

- Pass under the rail bridge and TURN RIGHT at the Jemmy Moss Inn (Waite St). There will be a sign after the bridge telling you to turn right for Berrima, but it's a little confusing, so look for the Inn.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/klish21/Cruise/berrimaturnoff.gif

- Continue along Waite St that turns into Berrima Rd and passes by a cemetery. You will come across a confusing intersection (Taylor Ave). DON'T follow the signs to New Berrima. Head STRAIGHT AHEAD along Berrima Rd, don't turn left. Past another cemetery. Rd changes to Oldbury Rd.

- [B]TURN RIGHT onto the Old Hume Hwy and head past the park and into Berrima!!! The Surveyor General Inn will come up on your lefthand side past the shops.

WELCOME TO BERRIMA!!! :D

kewl groovy stuff guys!!

OKAY EVERYONE!! by the looks of things, atm, NO ONE is meeting at wollongong maccas, meaning we can take the Northern Distributor from the beginning at Bellambi La and not have to sit in heaps of Sat traffic on the Princes Hwy!! Oh the relief. YAH! :D

Here's a map of where we all need to turn to link up with the start of the Northern Distributor that will take us straight to the F6, cutting out most of the Sat traffic in the 'burbs.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/klish21/Cruise/NorthernDistributor.jpg

It's a left turn at a set of traffic lights near a petrol station called Russell Vale Self Serve, Bellambi La, Bellambi. There will be a sign pointing straight ahead to Corrimal and a sign pointing left to Wollongong. Get in the LEFT lane and follow the signs to Wollongong!!

and my service is coming along well, cept for a minor hitch - burred 2 screws when getting the fuel pump out. were able to hacksaw them off, but it's off to auto1 2moro to get replacements. had a feeling we'd do that, as they're very soft screws.
found rattle under the drivers seat that has been pissing me off for ages: front swaybar is loose. so 2moro will be looking at that. am so happy to have found it, by pure fluke too!
so the laser is going to be running it's best next sat! as long as the timing belt + brakes go okay at the mechanics. yah so happy! :D

cause a mate of mine might come not sure tho... =p

Also will there be the use of walkie talkies

Red Frog
23-01-2006, 06:29 PM
I've reserved about 25-30 seats. i will be confirming this on Wed. If we get a wet weather day - which i'm SURE WE WILL NOT!!! - there is a dining room that we can exclusively have ;) but I will be confirming all this on Wed. Of course bring you're mate along! Rob and I went there the other weekend, and there really is quite a few tables to sit at, but i WILL try for the dining room, now that i've seen it.

Walkie Talkies ;) lol or UHF radios ___MUST___ be used!! Everyone, it is important to bring UHF/CB radios. If you have spares please put new batteries in these, label them and bring them on the day to share around.

What UHF channel do we want ppls? I think we usually use 19 or 21, depending on how busy they may get.

**Blush x10** :o Thanks guys! but seriously, don't thank me until I get u all to Berrima! THEN I will be able to relax ;) hehehe and have a glass of Champers! ;) lol Though really I have just been the organiser of details. It has been YOU guys who have made the cruise what it is. If it wasn't for your enthusiasm, suggestions, and committment to both AGT & OMC, I prob would have given up awhile ago.

I just hope everyone has a fun, memorable (in the best way possible!) and relaxing day, enjoying the beautiful views and rds of the Sth Coast of NSW and getting lots of happy snaps. I hope ppl enjoy cruising with their AGT/OMC members, putting a few names to faces and not having to worry about getting lost or left behind. Hopefully the sun will be shining, our cars will be purring (I know Kitty's will be!) and the rds will be good to us, so we can have an awesome Annual Cruise for 2006! <Insert cheering and yeeharing here, or...leave it for the pub>

Kitty, it's really up to u when u guys head back. The Hume is a skip, hop and handbrakey (i'll show u where ;) lol) from the pub. BUT after lunch, I'm taking those ppl who want to go, up to a camping ground, which is right next to the river, where we can hopefully arrange all the cars for photos. Assuming we get to lunch at 1pm, eat, have a chat and a drink, it'd be about 2.15ish, then 15mins for photos and u can head on your way, say 2.30ish. So u may be pushing it by 4pm, as it's about 1.5-1.75hrs back to Nth Ryde. Then again, u will be in Bruce, so who knows ;) It just really depends on the day.

Oh! and another VERY important thing to note, not that I expect any of our members to be doing so is.....DO NOT SPEED ON THE CRUISE. There is zero tolerance to this guys. DOUBLE DEMERITS applies from the Tues to the Sun, and we also have P platers who have limits of 90 and 100, so we are all to respect this. There is NO rush to get to Berrima, and I would be upset if people did rush, as the whole purpose of a cruise is to enjoy the driving and to take it easy. Here is the blurb from the RTA website:

"Double demerit points are in force over the Australia Day long weekend. This applies to all speeding, seatbelt and motorcycle helmet offences from midnight Tuesday 24 January to midnight Sunday 29 January."

Another thing I'd like everyone to take notice of is to use your parking lights or low beams (normal headlights) on the day. For the people upfront who are looking in their rear view mirrors to keep track of who is behind and where they are, it is about 150% easier to find you if you have your headlights on. Trust me, they make the world of difference!

Okay, just confirmed with our lunch destination that we will be there on the day around 1pm. So all is good on that front! Being the Aus Day Weekend, the parking may be tight, so I suggest parking near the Gaol (i'm pretty sure it's secure! lol) or Court House, or parking across the rd on the grass area, where the ground is a bit uneven, but lots of space. I was able to get my car across there with lows, but those with bodykits and super lows (OMGawd! Fully sik!) might choose the street to park.

Good to see you're coming Rob, and have added you to the list.

And THANK YOU for supporting my idea of using headlights! The amount of cruises i've co-organised or been on where we've asked for ppl to use their headlights and they haven't, is ridiculous! So yep! Plz use them AND bring UHF radios. If you'd like to purchase some, Tandy or Dick Smiths has them for about $50, and they're always useful on any cruise. I own a GME TX610 and have found it fantastic! Really clear sounds and receives strong reception.

looks like Bee Jay is not coming now

I can't get the windscreen done on friday and don't want to bring it cause the crack is massive and a defect.

I'm trying to get the Accord Euro off Mum or my old Laser (dad's car)

Oh Moy Gawwwwd!! Thanks guys for an amazing & fantastic day!! Am completely buggered after driving all day, but DAMN it was worth it!! Beautiful weather, great roads, lovely ppl, fantastic cars and a scrummy lunch, just made the day exactly what I hoped for :D It was great to finally put names to faces and have a chat :) I am lost for words (which is a very rare occasion for moi!) on how to thank everyone who attended, for their cooperation and patience. Thank you to Rod and everyone involved, for organising the photo shoot too :) Haven't had a look at the pics yet, but i'm sure they're brilliant. And thanks Brian, for the detour on the way home to Mt Keira. It is just stunning up there!

I'm having a look at the pics now, but I shall get them up sumtime 2moro.

Definately a fantastic day was had, That's one of the few cruises that will always remain a high-strung memory for me, it had everything, and it fell into perfect harmony the entire way.

Braxta, I need to get a copy of that movie you took of my car, but would preffer it stay out of public view, people that want to see it please PM me.

Red Frog, thanks for a sheer perfect cruise, definately well planned, and organised, and good job on the maps and other stuff as well (you poor thing, spending all of this morning at 2am setting it all up)..

The detour was nothing short of priceless, those views are stunning and to die for, but I was amazed at the amount of people that cruised up with us, made the ending of the day well worthwhile for me.

Look forward to the next cruise (if I am invited of course).

The cars, the people, the route, it was all fantastic, especially the people, so many friendly faces.

Rod, hope all goes well with the ODD 12C, was definately a downer hearing about that, good luck on the rebuild.

I have to say the content of this cruise made it the best I have ever been on. My only dissappointment being slow Camrys+Commonwhores on Macquarie's Pass on the way back... Mt Kierra was great except for that red scooby! Great to catch up with the usual suspects and meet some new people too.

Nice one Leighfrog!

We had no cars between us and i thought it was perfect timing???

Because there where cars about 20 meters in front of me at the time, wanted to put a few minutes between us and any cars at all....

That motorbike shat me, thought he would have been a touch quicker than the equivilant of a bus.....
