i'd say some very thick, strong fibreglass. possibly reinforced with something like metal would do the trick.

- Remove the handles and lockbars 1st.
- Work up some reinforced layers of FG from the inside of the door.
- Put some more layers on the outside of the door, filling up the hole completely.
- Sand the outside till its nice and perfect smooth. ( 2 hours gentle hand-sanding ? )
- Maybe put something else over the back of the hole, inside the door.

Remember it wont be too hard for a thief to bash thru the hole. Giving him easy access to ur doors. So make it strong !

I think mikey is talking about just filling in the keyholes, not removing the doorhandles

you could get the holes fibreglassed over, or use something like bog or fibrebog, and just sand it smooth

but how are you going to get into the car if your alarm/battery fails? :P

Just found this topic, and was just going to ask the same question.

Yeah, but why remove the door keyholes and not the boot? If you're gonna do it, you gotta go all the way...

but you can't remove the one in the boot with the hatch, as it's in the reflector panel on the back...

Ohh, OK. Would look kinda funny, seeing this guy madly pressing his car alarm button, then opening the boot and crawling through his car. Bwahahaha :D

BTW, like the avatar Dan, that your new Piston isit?

I think the bog or Fibre glass will crack over time with opeing and closing the door.. best idea would be to mod the rear handles to the front :D i remember Eric saying the are not a straght fit.

mik i agree,
what about having them filled with plastic ala. the circle indent that tony had done on his front bar?

cheers mike

door handles arent the same plastic... very different actually

Not to piss on your parade, but is it really worth it just for such a minor detail? as it's gonna cost a fair bit...

but what you want to do is get them plastic welded - and half the time they use bog to get the shape perfect anyway...

dunno.

i was thinking, to avoid the problem of it being too brittle, and cracking, maybe use something soft like silicon ?? But then you have the problem that it might flex, and crack the paint over the silicon. How about wax ? melt a candle in there. is much cheaper than plastic welding, and it shouldnt flex or be too brittle.

okay this is what you can do.
1. cut a piece of aluminium or anything hard and use a couple drops of super glue just to have it sit next to the actual key hole.
2. i'd suggest to use pre mixed fibreglass paste (available in most spare parts shops) to cover the holes. before you do that, sand the door handles so that there are NO shiny surface (so the fibreglass can stick to the plastic), after that, use bog to finish it off (for the final look).
3. get it primed and painted.

ps.
the reason for step one is if for some reason that you can not get into the car, all you have to do to use the key to open the door is to crack open the fibreglass and remove the aluminium piece.
the prime and paint will probably cost the most.
just a quick run down on $$$

- the smallest tin of fibreglass paste (inc. hardner) is approx. $20
- the smallest tin of bog (inc hardner) is approx. $15
- prime and paint for two door handles is approx. $100 to $150
- if done properly and looked unreal = priceless....
again, the above mentioned $$$$ all depends on where you go and the auality of the materials (trust me, there are some cheap, dodgy fibreglass and bogs out there.....)

pps.
plastic welding for this is not worth it as the kit (consists of plastic podwer. liquid etc all in a first-aid look alike kit), and it is pretty pricy, and it doesnt give you smooth surface and bog is required after that. normally it is used to repair factory bumpers and bumper clips.

hope i have answered few questions.
