Sunroof this time last year, most extravagent thing I have ever done, and I don't regret it one bit as its been used all year round. I also tried to keep out of forums like this when I bought the car so I wouldn't be tempted to do things to it, and then within days of joining here was convinced to blow nearly $3000 on things. Mind you I did get a small payout from finishing up a contract.

I think the sunroof was a bit of an investment. most mods never are, but its unusual for our car which was already limited, and it causes no hassles for insurance, so if we sold it, I suspect we could ask that little bit more. But this car is supposed to be a longer term thing, so we have truly invested in ourselves for a while as we will get our moneys worth out of it.

The suspension. Made the ride so much better. Handles great now, fun to drive the car quickly through corners.

too many to list
suspension - quicker acceleraton, better braking, tigher cornering
fully worked head - more power, less fuel usage, quicker to rev limit
ecu - more power, quicker acceleration, less fuel usage, quicker to rev limit
after typing all that i just realized the ecu was the best mod. hehe lol

Nah. It is for a Sony HU.
They do appear to have a version for the MAzda HU though.

shortshifter - much more fun on hilly twisties
or
header - although still small in the big picture, it made a surprising difference with power and fuel usage with cruising.

I would have to say suspension also, mainly as i haven't done any mechanical work to the car..

1. Would have to be Turbo I thought the $7k was a bit much at the time but its
worked out now $1k a year with 7 years of smiling every time I drive the car.
2. Suspension. Love the handling of the whiteline kit and love the looks of being
so low.
3. Stereo. With boost and handling, sound just makes it a perfect driving experience.
4. 18"s & Chrome make the car look awesome and suits the lowering perfectly.
5. Stainless muffler which has 3" exit on either side looks huge and will look even better
when I get around to polishing it up to match the polished I/C and chrome mags.

Fuel pumps,
Holden VL RB30 fuel pump is the same as the VL RB30 Turbo except for the part number and are good for 250kw. Aftermarket pumps cost heaps more and are built for 120kw 'cos that is what the engine produces.
Second mod on my 929 was a genuine Bosch VL fuel pump. First was the Pod filter.
Point is that the cheapest fuel pump for a VL is the Holden non turbo standard fuel pump and it does the best job.
$30 and every mod I do on the engine will be better through this single mod.

I'm so never going to live that down! Yes I did have it installed back then. Not that I've been trying, but it hasn't happened since the front AWR mount went in.

Yeah, finally got it done.
I actually blew up the tiptronic box (Winton Racetrack may have had something to do with that) and had trouble getting a replacement. Looked all over Australia.
Took about 6 weeks to source the manual gearbox.
Cost me a bit over $3,500 for conversion.

my astina was privatly imported from hong kong in 1996.. same year it was made.. a asian uni student brought it with him and i bought it late last year rite b4 he went back overseas.. the RE-Ayton if thats how its spelld part is the fuel pump and rear strut. I dunno why he got them but he also got a cool badge and sticker.. i still have the sticker as its huge on the back window but i de-badged the rear except the mazda logo which has holes behind it :D
AstinaBoiV6
01-02-2006, 11:15 PM
lol my bad i cant read japanese but heres the correct spelling of it its not RE-Ayton its RE-Amemiya my m8 is asian n when he said it i was like ok...... yer but it looks cool all parts have logo but RE is english n the rest is jap.. heres the site they have loads of cool parts and get a sticker like mine :D http://www.re-amemiya.co.jp
The official Mazda service manuals and wiring diagrams have been one of the most useful things I've bought for my car
Absolutely invaluable.

My stupidly big wheels and very sticky tires. I can do stuff that the car just shouldnt be able to do. All I need now is to do the suspension. I would say the QTB's but they are working yet so they dont really count. But they are the best because no one else has done it that I know of.
