Well after checking out ozeparts for myself, and thinking long and hard, about 3 seconds, I whipped out the plastic and ching ching, bought myself a set of clear side indicators.
Can anyone give me some tips for taking the old ones out and installing the new ones.

it's as easy as getting robbed in italy.
push them in a little and slide them to the left or right (can't remember but it'll only go one way). then they should pop out. the wires + bulb are locked in by a twist, so just twist the back and they'll pop out. make sure when u put the indicators back in there's a click sound when they fit back into place, otherwise you'll hav dangley indicators next time u go for a drive :D hehehe they should look verdie nice on the starry blue 'stina!! i got mine off ebay for $17 or sth ;) lol but had to superglue one of them together, as the back came apart. but all good now! ozeparts will be much better, i'm sure.

Yep, push them to the rear of the car, and that should clear the lug holding them in place

hmm interesting, people have always told me they got a screwdriver to get them off...this sounds much better...which ones did you get ripper...the crystal ones? Btw do they need another coloured bulb in them seeing as they aren't orange anymore.
Ripper323
24-01-2006, 02:48 PM
Yeah I think they are the crystal ones. They don't look like a normal lense, ie all liney, they are just clear with a little bubble in the middle. I'm not sure about the globes cause I don't have the lights yet. From what other people have said you shouldn't need to spend any more money on them once you buy them, which to me means you can use the old globe, or they come with an amber one.

24-01-2006, 03:02 PM
found out they come with the orange bulb....did you try seeing whether that method makes the lights pop out?
Ripper323
24-01-2006, 03:16 PM
Na, I haven't tried to pop them out yet, I'm still at work so when I get home I'll give them a go. Might even consult my 1000 page factory manual I printed out a couple of months ago, it'll probably tell me!
woofy
24-01-2006, 03:20 PM
if that manual si teh one thats posted on the net you'll find that the indicators in it are a different kind in the bumper and not in the quarter panel...i checked it before.

Yeah I'm home. You just slide the light towards the back of the car about 5-6mm then pry the light out from the front. It comes out real easy.

i think an angle grinder would be more fun. You could say the big squarish hole is a vent.

Lamps and globes are included in the drivers manual.
My clears came with no globes, a quick trip to Super crap should fix that

screwdriver was the safer option,
mate did his with fingers and found that yes finger nails can scratch paint, so he did the other side with a screwdriver and a (not to thin) rag,
was really for grip if you get my meaning, should make it clear you are not levering the thing off,
I just followed suit and did the screwdriver and rag worked fine for me,
althought you just scarpe the side along a support beam in a parking garage and they should pop out without you even having to get out of the car.

I took off the plastic that lines the inside of the wheel arch. Reached in behind the side indicator and pushed that little piece of plastic that holds it in place to pop it out. Took a little longer but there was no way i was going to attack it with a screw driver

fark, its just too simple... just push the indicator towards the rear of the car and then pull, you dont need any tools at all. will take about 0.5 second to do!!!

YES that is right. You don't need a screw driver, you don't even need to touch the paint work, you just grasp the sides of the indicator after pushing it towards the back of the car and pull it out. S.I.M.P.L.E. No tools involved.

lol i've only got a 115mm one. You can't get that creative with a 9" one.

Well after waiting a week for my indicators to show up I came home from work to find the slip in my mail box that I have a parcel. I rushed down to the post office at 5:03 and they shut at 5:00. Damn was I pissed! 3 stupid extra minutes was all they had to stay open for and I would have been happy :(
woofy
30-01-2006, 07:29 PM
oh that happens all the time, from my experience usually they shut before time, so when you rush to leave work early...you are extra annoyed to find they shut up 15min early.
Hey Ripper, you ordered the indicators on the 23/1 right? So it took 5 business days to get to you? I was under the impression that it only took about 3 business days.
Ripper323
31-01-2006, 03:08 PM
Yeah, I think I ordered them that day. But there was a public holiday in the middle as well. They state that the order will be dispatched no later than 2 days after the order is received, and it isn't express post, just registered. But I picked them up today and they are on the car and look tops.

Sensor lights can be avoided, and cats can be caught in exhaust tips...

Just got my clear indicators today from ozeparts for my 2001 SP20 Hatch.
Fitted them in less than five minutes, easily. The advice from this forum was spot on! Just slide your old ones back towards the rear of the car and pull them out allowing the front of the indicator body to exit the quater panel first. Peice of P#SS! :p
Thanx for the advice guys! :)
