Hi all

I am new here, thought it would be a good start to my converstion from an Escort driver to an Astina driver

Ive always loved the shape of the Astina hatch......96, 98 etc........

I currently drive a 96 Escort 1.6i Sport Hatch........the motor loves the revs and all and it spins and handles like there is no tommorrow......but i am having a bit of a reliability issue at the moment.......

The cars done 130000km and needs a big ass service or overhaul......she's starting to smoke, the EFI doesnt know what to do with itself anymore etc etc.............plus lets not get into the interior rattling...............

Ive considered fixing it, at a hefty few thousand...........or just trade her in and get myself an Astina......

My question is........How reliable are they.......how do they handle and drive........and are they any good at acceleration etc........

I see the Astina is +- 93kw standard.........much better than my current 66kw.....so i think ive already answered the acceleration question for myself.............

Any body wanna use their experience of driving these sexy machines to push me in the right direction?

I am from South Africa.........

Thnx alot.......

A fair few man.

Okey, ive never driven one of the newer ones, but my astina handles well. With a few quick suspension mods they handle alot better, but it also depends on ur rubber. There not slow stock and I dunno how SA go's for mods, but the astinas are fairly modable.

id recomend them over just about any other vehicle in their class.

96 Escort 1.6i Sport Hatch
Dunno about anyone but this means nothing to me,

I am happy with mine, (96 V6 HT)

not sure what spec you would be getting but I think it could the Jap Spec???? therefore add an extra 10-15 KW to aus spoec,

handles well, interior lasts well, could use less petrol but nah so bad,
,Very happy with mine,

bah the only 'true escorts' were built in the 70's :D.

Back on topic: the best question to ask may be what model Astina are you looking at getting?

That answer your question, Chipa? ;)

Are you after a 4cyl or the V6?

Either way, they handle quite well, but like any stock car can be made to handle better.

Can't think of any major reliability issues off the top of my head.
