It is necessary when certain people don't read.
hey guys ... cheers for the support ... greg and myslef had a blast! just ofr the record that jeep is blisteringly quick (the entery list is in order of last years times so the jeep was about 4th quickest in the field :p ... our 19th spot came from the civic last year, the lada should be a bit quicker), and the familia is capable of a quicker times, it just gets pussy footed around ... cbf typing anymore than that here is gregs write up
Anyways the event got cancelled after the first of 3 runs... very average... basically, sitting at the start control of the first stage, with 3 cars infront of me, it started to rain VERY heavily, and it kept it up all day, which, if they publish the results for the first stage, you'll see from about the third car infront of us, the times dropped down by about 90secs... so a time which we thought was fairly average going by the finish control board, turned out alright given the VERY tricky condition and the new car (which ran impecibily), just a pity about the driver!
I had one huge moment during a 6L 150 2 right on grid.... basically, coming up to the grid the car was VERY unsetled, and with rather massive pools of water was pretty lucky to get it in shape before we collected a grid post... plain driver error, coming in way too hot, and being my first event on pacenotes was maybe a little too commited to them, which by the way, my first time navvie nate did an EXCELLENT JOB, and i can't thank him enough... brilliant effort, we didn't have a terrorphone, and not once were we lost on the notes...
That's not where the fun ends, the reason the event got cancelled was because a first time rally driver, in a WRX decided to plant it up a tree, and it took 3 hours to cut them out, and airlift them to hospital...
So from what very little (and rain interupted) results we have, totalling 2 stages and 16km , from position seeding 19th of 30, there was only one person behind who set a better total time (wes and peter ), and i think we beat 4 in front, so all in all a pretty average effort...
Anyways, the next event isn't till 22nd April at Benarkin, and hopefully have some decent kilometers in the car (today was my first drive of the new beast on dirt) before then, 26 March is a Sponsor Ride day at Willowbank, and in early april the AARG is holding their first event at their new rally complex in clifton, which by the promotion DVD (which has footage of me from the QRC ) they were handing out today, looks EXCELLENT! So definately try and make it out there and gets some decent k's under the belt...
Anyways, that's the latest news, couldn't be happier with the new car, and i've not quite found its remarkedly high limits yet, (i probably drove at the pace the civic was capable of today)... to be honest i'm just happy i kept the car straight and on the road in an event that recieved torential rain... quite a few retired off the road, or simply couldn't make it through the stage, 3 gemini's slid off an uphill section just before the finish of stage 1...
Until next time, Astro Boy!
PS: the funniest part of the event was when the door square and number peeled off the passenger door insight of the speccy point at 160k's, and everyone thought it was nate throwing the pacenotes out the window!
