Hey guys!

Just a quick question and a stupid one at that. But I was wondering if i have 1/4 tank left of Ampol Gold in the fuel tank is it ok to fill up with say BP Ultimate (or whatever its called) without affecting performance or the car??? :?

Thanks for your help!

You should be pretty right, most fuels are compatible with others. It's like motor oil too.

Having said that though, i always try filling up with the same fuel...

Change as often as you like.... its from a natural source and will never be the same tank to tank from the same company anyway. Country of origin changes, as does rig location. Its the processing that makes the most difference - higher sulphur content in Optimax which is not supposed to be good if used a lot, although levels would be hardly worth worrying about.

Thanks for that Adam. I was desperate and fuel was cheap (69c yay!!) so i filled up. Used Shell Optimax so will see how that goes - I found that the Ampol Gold was making my baby sluggish. :?

thanks

Unleaded up on the Coast is 84.9c atm, and I'm filling up as often as I can, it's not normally this cheap around here.

ULP around here was on average 80.9 yesterday..... 7-9 cents more for PULP as always. I was happy with that!

Our lowest last week was 64.5 but that was for ULP .. but still can't complain they only put PULP at 67.2 ... usually it's more like 6-8c more...

ATM i'll go out o' my way to buy booze from safeway to get the 4c per litre saving occasionly. I'm happy enough that it's been some months since PULP was over the $.
While the petrol companies are ripping me off at the pump I refuse to buy anything from the shop. Yeah I know they are a franchise but if they hurt they will sook at their supplier, who has the big bright banner in the street.

I almost always use Optimax because it makes such a big difference in my old car, Astra '87 bout 50-150km per tank and you could realy feel the difference. In my astina I haven't really compared it to ULP (kms etc).
When I had my car serviced last my mechanic commented on how dirty my fuel filter was. I assumed it was from the previous owner. Hope its not the Optimax. I'll have to check the filter out next time round just to see.

If your talking about the fuel filter on your astina that the mechanic said was dirty how did he find this out,did he cut the old 1 open? Cause the Astina 1's are a metal filter which you can see into :?

I always use bp ultimate,

I haven't run regular yet so i'm not sure if there is much gain in it, but i see it as a cleaner and better fuel for the engine.

I got about 590 k's from 43 litres last week which is about 14 k's per litre or 7 litres per 100 k's. Is that good or about average for these little babys...

it's the 1.8 doch....

cheers,

Yeah Im a big fan of bp ultimate!
Ive always filled up with 98ron fuel! But recently put a full tank of optimax in and the car went hard as ****! So now i mix&match full tanks of all 3 brands in the hope of a good batch!

I heard down the grapevine that shells ron changes from batch to batch!
It can be as low as 97 and as high as 100! I want the 100 batch! :)

One refinery can distribute to many vendors, all aditives are added as the fuel enters the tanker. If RON changes then it's due to the refinery not the petrol vendor or pump jockeys.
