Gearboxes...

Sorry about the double forum post guys (also posting this on mx6.com)

As some of you know I'm planning on putting a KL-ZE engine in my V6 astina... now some people have told me I can keep the stock gearbox (engine is 104kw stock) when i put the KL-ZE in (149kw) as its only 50% power increase... but that seems like a fair bit to me.

Anyway i don't want to buy a gearbox to suit the ZE becuase i have been quoted $1150 on it - ouch! Would it really be ok to keep the stock box? what if i got a normal MX-6 gearbox (123kw or so)? that would be like going halfway - not stock but not extreme.

What do you all think? Think the stockie would be ok? Or what?

Well, i must admit i assumed they'd be the same for all K series cars.

but i guess the only way to check that would be to compare part numbers.

All I can say is look at all the problems us 4cyl guys are having
with using a 134kw motor with a 92kw gearbox. I would use the
stock box but be saving for the matching gearbox to the motor
for if/when it does happen. If it doesn't then you still got the money.
But be prepared.
